QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 01:34 AM) The poll I saw 65 percent of Americans think she is untrustworthy. She's the best of two bad candidates apparently according to 65 percent. I'm actually stunned at Soxtalk's support of Hillary. I can hardly believe it actually. Smart people on here. I mean I can't vote for either; some on here actually seem happy Hillary is running rather than just preferring her over Mr. Negative SoundBite. It's not "support" as much as it's "not active opposition that is completely based on the consumption of decades of right-wing propaganda we have long since ignored" against the Democratic candidate who, despite what flaws she has, has almost identical domestic policies to the current president we all tend to like and will appoint Supreme Court justices that will support that. She is running against, literally, the least popular major party candidate who has ever run, who knows nothing about anything and sounds like an Arab dictator when he talks. This is a pretty easy choice for most of us.

OK it was decent. Immediate thoughts Margot Robbie was everything anyone wanted Harley Quinn to be. Phenomenal. Leto did a decent job with the Joker. Very creepy. More like Nicholson than Ledger I think but he's his own guy. Not really sure what I think of the Joker/Harley relationship in the movie, it's not romance, the Joker is abusive towards her but then again the movie focused more on her than him and she thinks she's in love with him (not anymore in the comics but still). Viola Davis was a bad ass Amanda Waller. She is one in the comics fast you low key can't f*** with. Will Smith was Will Smith. You've seen him act before. I agree with what has been said about the soundtrack. They were trying to be like Guardians of the Galaxy with the classic tracks but they were doing the most. The CGI on the villain in the second half was unnecessary and looked like a Xbox 360 game from 2007. Ending and the credits scene is setting up the Justice League and the next solo Batman movie.

Y2HH prefers the tone of his movies to be somewhere between Schindler's List and Friday the 13th, lol

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) Yeah, Brandon Routh gave us the clumsy Clark Kent, boycott Superman and it bombed. Superman hasn't acted like that in the comics for 50 years. I like the Superman they have now, but I do think he acts too much like Batman. He supposed to be the optimist of the two. It's valid. They can lighten him up juuuust a little. He would be more like Wonder Woman then.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) I agree, and that's likely why were seeing the darker, more brooding Superman instead of the Christopher Reeve version everyone seems to be clamoring for. Which, for the record, I don't want. We already had that, and it already exists. That said, it is moving DC in a darker direction, but frankly, I like it...we already have Marvel's lighter hearted nature as alternative choice. I don't want two Marvel's anymore than I want two DC's. While DC's movies haven't been perfect by any means, I STILL prefer them over most of what the MCU has given me. Everyone says they want the 1976 Superman, but when they did that recently, everyone hated it. So you just have to acknowledge most people don't really know what the f*** they're talking about lol

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) They do on Hannity's TV show. I have tuned in to watch a little bit this past week and they are very anti Hillary with their comments/stats, etc. Like I said some people think Hillary is pretty close to "evil" if not "evil" itself. Just because I don't vote for Trump doesn't mean I'll ever say a nice word about Hillary. I have praised Bill, however, in the past. You're in a thread with Democrats/liberals/progressives, boosting Sean Hannity? Seriously?

And yeah, the fact that this is the version of Batman that younger people know means that DC is always marketing him that way and writing his comics that way, but it also means the rest of the DC universe has to move with him in order to be compatible, because he's their biggest IP. That is what they f***ed up with the New 52.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) I agree on this, it HAS seeped into his identity as we know it today, and the Arkham video games went a long way in lending a hand in this happening. For better or worse, THIS is the Batman most of the younger generation knows and loves. That said, I liked the portrayal, as this IS the Batman Affleck is playing right now. They're also kind of showing him begin to revert back to his older, more forgiving ways in light of Supermans sacrifice. All of which I'm fine with, if there was anything that really stood out to me in BvS, it was Affleck's Arkham Batman...I really really liked it. Affleck's portrayal of Batman is flawless. Also I wouldn't necessarily put that on the Arkham games, Nolan's trilogy had more to do with that.

The problem I have with Frank Miller's Batman is that the Dark Knight Returns was supposed to be Batman after decades of crime-fighting had sent him off the deep end. There is nothing wrong with that portrayal, per se, but over the past 20 or so years, it's seeped into the rest of Batman's identity. So Batman is this violent, insufferable, but still self-righteous dick that the other heroes respect, but tolerate more than they actually like.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) If the Dems want to win, they should gather up a collection of respectable people and have them criticize Trump in national ads. He won't be able to help himself from bashing them. "I was a construction worker who didn't get paid due to Trump." "THAT GUY SUCKED AT POURING CONCRETE. WHAT A LOSER." "I lost my legs in Iraq. I don't want Donald Trump as commander in chief." "NO LEGS, CAN'T EVEN WALK. SAD. SHOULDN'T HAVE STEPPED ON A MINE." I want someone to ask him a nonsensical question like "Do you believe the sectarian conflict between the ethnic Harambe and Dothraki has led to them all being unfairly maligned as Salafists?"

I don't dislike Royal, but he is a total non-factor until he shows otherwise.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Holy moly this last week of polling for Clinton. After this morning's Fox News Clinton +10 poll, she's sporting a +5.9 average on RCP. The NYT has a really cool poll-tracking site, The Upshot. You get their model plus a regularly updated chart of what the other aggregators are predicting nationally and state-by-state, and if you scroll to the bottom, there's a neat "what-if" widget where you can see the paths to victory for each candidate by assuming one or the other wins a given swing state. Trump had a very small bounce for a few days coming out of the RNC, but this is the only time after a convention where the nominee has a net negative decline in favorability. Clinton didn't repair all of her image issues - she never will - but the DNC helped her despite all the chaos and shouting.

I got a coworker who is always trying to have conversations and it's pretty annoying. Whenever Trump doing or saying stupid s*** comes up he starts off saying "I don't support Trump, but..." or "I'm not saying Trump's not an idiot, but..." then does one of the following -defends the substance of the thing Trump said people are taking issue with -provides in-depth analysis of broader issue that Trump never even pretended to speak on or indicated he knew anything about -makes up convenient excuse for Trump that isn't actually real -when he can't think of one of the first 3 fast enough, provides false equivalence or claims this is nothing that ordinary politicians don't do

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) I sense so much anti-Hillary stuff from my GOP friends that I can't see them paving the way for her. Plus in my lifetime I remember Reagan Democrats but no such reverse situation. I think so many Dems have been burned by the Clinton family that they will look harder than you think. Reagan Democrats aren't a thing, the correct word is "Republican" cuz that's what they've been ever since 1980.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Also wasn't this reported in January? Or am I nuts? Yes. Coworkers are going "why were they hiding it? Most transparent administration in history!" Just because YOU treat Breitbart as a legitimate news source, that doesn't mean the rest of us are ignorant

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:38 AM) And watching someone still trying to pretend it's not both sides at this point is just sadder. Do you spank it when you do this? I need to know.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) I feel like all I hear about is Braverman. He's our annual "underdog white guy fan favorite" but I think he's a lot better than the rest.

He didn't thread his tweets unfortunately so you have to read this bottom to top.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) A couple of Tea Party people, the Lt. Governor and a current US Rep, lost their primaries in Missouri last night to candidates to their left. It'll be interesting to see how GOP leaders react if they stop having to fear facing a crazy right-wing insurgency in every district. Huelskamp went down in Kansas. That's great news, it's like losing someone like Gohmert. I remember he had a pretty spectacular meltdown on Maddow's show after the State of the Union one night where he embarrassed himself pretty bad (if feeling embarrassment was possible for him). Although he got replaced by a Trump supporter soooooo

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Loudoun County is actually the wealthiest county in the entire country. I had that thought halfway through reading the sentence. The economy here is not based on factories and s*** anyway. This isn't Ohio or Pennsylvania.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) Trump is obsessed with nuclear weapons and wants to know why they shouldn't be used. Badly. http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/201...carborough.html I'm not really inclined to think of Scarborough as a credible source especially considering "several months ago" he and his show were actively showing favoritism to Trump's campaign, and he is citing an anonymous secondhand source, but this is totally consistent with something Trump would do.

Nobody can seriously look at tape from last year's offense and conclude Cutler was a problem and Bennett wasn't. Actually, yardage and TDs notwithstanding, that was probably Cutler's cleanest year since he's been in Chicago.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Nobody in republican party is going to put up with his b.s. though if he loses. Not concerned. The attitude among Republicans seems to be that they can't wait for this to just be overwith and behind them already. They're going through the motions.

He won the popular vote relatively easily. It was hilarious watching people melt down about that in real time because even though the race was competitive, at no point during the entire election cycle did the polls indicate Obama was in any actual danger of losing, but they convinced themselves it would be a landslide listening to the "unskewed" morons.
