  1. Morning Joe is a good case in point there, Joe Scarborough (over)reacts to every single thing Obama does, I guess he sometimes runs out of things to talk about.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) I agree. And by peer pressure, I think you mean "within-the-family" peers. Either she just wasn't up to it right now or she just didn't want to do it. If she really wants it, she has a few years to make herself a policy guru and practice speeches, and she can re-run for the seat then. Yeah that's what it seemed like to me, at least to an outside observer with absolutely no insider knowledge at all. I know that she's a lot like Chelsea Clinton, in that she's never been a big fan of the bright public spotlight, and she'd have to give that up if she became a politician.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) When you're walking by someone and they say, "How are you doing?" By the time I devise a response, I'm forced to yell it towards the asker's back as they continue walking. If all I say is "hey" or "hi" then an almost imperceptible "hi" or even just a nod will do, but when someone completely ignores me and stares straight ahead I want to slap them.
  4. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) Does anyone else get irritated when you're speaking to someone and someone passes by and says good morning interrupting your conversation? I get more irritated when I make eye contact with someone and say hi, but they don't respond. If it's a stranger and I'm in public sometimes I mumble "f*** you then."
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Weird thing, she withdrew for "personal reasons". My guess is she had something to hide, was afraid it would come out. Maybe she never really wanted to in the first place and was just bowing to peer pressure.
  6. Rep. Kirsten Gillenbrand to take Hillary's seat?

    Debit Card Help

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Sometimes, when you pay at the pump, they authorize $50-60 on your card, then charge the actual purchase amount on top of it. Yeah I've had that happen before too. The $50-60 goes away the next day or day after though.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) Beanie babies?? Check out this s***. WTF? Scroll down to the ones with the weapons and Darth Vader. LMAO I'm not sure which is funnier, that or the dildo thing that Alpha posted.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) I did a little research. Looks like he has been lobbying as recently as June, and possibly up to the current. So, yeah, this pick is apparently in violation. Stupid move. If that's the case then yeah.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Did he break the rule? How long ago was he a lobbyist? The rules he set had time limits. 2 years I believe although I have to check. It'd be virtually impossible to be completely free of lobbyists, you'd be disqualifying a lot of people. I know the word "lobbyist" has a stigma but that's kind of the point of democracy.
  12. Speaking of that country here's an article from today I read that sort of touches the tip of the iceberg about Iranian people. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/01/22/iran....ople/index.html

    Debit Card Help

If you ever notice, it also does something like this at the gas station. Initially it'll just do a generic authorization on your account for $1.00 or something even though your tank of gas was, say, $32.26. But it won't show the $32.26 for several days, it'll just have the gas station saying you paid $1.00 for gas. But a couple of days later, when it's all finalized and updated, it shows the correct amounts.
  14. Wow, that long ago already?
  15. My mom forwarded this e-mail to me today and I thought it was pretty funny: An old black man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his yearly collard green garden, but it was always very hard work for him because the ground was hard. His only son, Junebug Jankins III, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament. Dear Junebugg Jankins the III, I am feeling pretty bad because it look like I won't be able to plant my collard green garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me. Love Dad A few days later he received a letter from his son: Dear Daddy Jankins, Whatever you do, don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried the BODIES. Love Junebugg Jankins III At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local polic e arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Daddy Jankins, You can go ahead and plant the collard greens now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances. Love Junebugg III.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) Is it just me or did we do alot of stupid things in the name of stoping communism. We did, but that's just how the game was played. The Soviets did a lot of that too so it was either play or be played. Our strategic vision could've been a lot better though.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) I wonder what Iran would look like today if Operation Ajax had never happened and Mohammed Mosaddeq remained in power. Nobody knows for sure but scholars seem to assume that it'd be a stable, mature, secular, pro-Western democracy. There's still a pretty substantial amount of pro-Western sentiment in the country, too. We probably never would've done that but the Brits were pretty pissed that Iran nationalized their oil industry which meant they were losing a bunch of money, so they needed to get us on board. The only way for them to do that was to play the "Commie" card to get Eisenhower to agree to the whole deal. That was a case of us not looking more than 5 years into the future.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) video from inside the oval office like that is very, very rare. They almost never allow it. True, but he didn't necessarily have to do it in the Oval Office, either.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) not sure this has been mentioned. Obama took the oath of office again today. just to make sure it was all done correctly It was odd that they didn't let cameras in there. The whole point of this was to nip any potential controversy in the bud by showing everybody he's done it again, 100% correctly. So why not have video cameras (they had print journalists and took regular pictures at least) and show everyone? Just doesn't make much sense to me.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Good. She was, you know, an absolute joke. I have nothing against her, but I couldn't think of any reason for her to be a Senator other than her last name.
  21. And damn, Hillary got confirmed already? That was relatively painless actually.
  22. Not sure where else to put this, but Lou Dobbs is reporting on CNN that Caroline Kennedy is withdrawing her name from consideration for Hillary's vacant seat.
  23. I had an internship at Lucent Technologies in high school and could've held on to that through college but I had a s***ty mentor that basically treated me like an "intern" meaning I did her b**** work. So I lost interest. But I loved that opportunity (although Lucent is no more, I forget what happened to them).
  24. QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) I suspect that he isn't worried about them attacking Israel in a state-on-state conflict either, but judging by Iran's unrelenting support of Hamas and Hezbollah it probably is something that a lot of people are a little worried about. Calling Iran a democracy is a bit of a stretch as well. Somehow I doubt the Ayatollah was put into power through free and transparent elections. Iran's not a dictatorship, technically it's a democracy, but it's definitely not a democracy in the liberal Western sense. But even so, IIRC, the Ayatollah doesn't even have absolute control of the country. Strong, but not absolute.
