One of the first "projected" standings, Sox dead last

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) This is because stats, as well as a number of people on this board, state that winning games is over rated by pitchers. They look at all of thenumbers other than wins to determine if you are a good pitcher. Buerhle "wins" more than his numbers show. Buehrle doesn't allow a lot of baserunners and he hardly ever walks anyone on a consistent basis, hence he wins. But the fact remains that he couldn't do this if he played on a team like the Pirates. -
I've seen in other discussions on this same article (the comments from the link for example) people are saying BA is whining. I don't see any whining at all, it sounds like he was asked questions about his role within the organization and he gave honest answers. This wasn't like last year where he was basically pouting, it sounds like he still thinks he can make it if he gets a shot (as any player should) and he might not get that shot with the Sox.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 12:57 AM) I agree it will be a better game than Vegas thinks, but the better team from the better conference will win. The Steelers should have a lot of fans there, and I think they'll get the pressure on Warner necessary to force some mistakes. There are concerns for the Steelers though, as they've had trouble running the ball all year and the Cardinals have been great against the run this postseason. Plus, Whisenhunt has all kinds of insider info he can pass along to his team about Pittsburgh. Big Ben should have a field day as long as he gets even decent protection though. McNabb put up big numbers today, and they could have been even bigger had his accuracy not betrayed him at key times. After all this time, I still don't like Ben's protection. Sometimes they step up and play well, but on the whole that offensive line just isn't that good. You're right though, this should be a Steelers home game, even moreso than 2005. Still, if I'm on the Cardinals I like my chances with this game with the way they've been playing. I don't know if I'd call the AFC the better conference this year or even last year. The interconference record is skewed this year because some NFC teams really s*** the bed vs. the AFC, but the better NFC teams were pretty evenly matched since the Pats looked mortal, the Colts started off slow, and the Chargers did their annual "we're Super Bowl contenders on paper but in reality not that good" deal. -

Who is the last SAM to make a Pro Bowl? I honestly can't think of a single one. -
I don't think Pie was handled very well by the Cubs, I remember at AAA he started slow and then eventually he started dominating. He never played consistently in the majors and wasn't given time to figure it out.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Damn. What did I miss? I had already turned the game off. McGahee got drilled in the helmet while getting tackled and hurt his neck. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) My first thought was “that dude’s paralyzed”, but he’s moving, thank god. I think he'll be fine, he just got KTFO. He probably won't remember any of this later. edit: they're saying his neck hurts but his limbs are moving. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) Wouldn't that be entrapment? Do I get Catherine Zeta-Jones?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) I feel like Flacco's regressing before our very eyes. At the end of the day he is still a rookie QB, when he's not graded on that curve he's a below average QB. We'll have a better idea next year. -

Joe Flacco has been BRUTAL today. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 02:51 AM) so how bout this mike, despite EVERYONE saying alternator (even in green) it wasn't. My positive connector was overly corroded and the wires in the cable were frayed. good thing i didn't just fix it without getting it checked huh? Much cheaper to get fixed than the alternator.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 02:15 AM) Haha, I saw this yesterday during class and the two guys sitting next to me thought it was hilarious. I f'n hate Bill Belichick and he did throw a "hissy fit" after that game, so I'm glad this was on jeopardy. Belichick is a jackass. He's an asshole and he dresses like homeless person but I have to admit he's probably the best coach since Bill Walsh.

In real life, hookers just plain do not look like that. Not even close.

So I went, nothing special. They have people out there in the area holding up big signs saying "30% OFF" but you can't see unless you're right up on them the small thing that says "UP TO" before it. The stuff in the store was 10% off, who knows what the actual prices were before that, but I went in the store thinking I was gonna get 30% off on a 52" HDTV... yeah not so much. 10% isn't enough to make me buy something impulsively, I guess I'll wait until they start trying harder to get rid of stuff. On a related note, I have NEVER seen so many people in that store before. It was like Black Friday.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Were you not aware of the Oil-for-Food mess? And the if the execution factor falls to the member nations, then the UN serves no purpose. It has to actually DO something to be of use. Meh there is no possible way to force nations into compliance to do anything. IMO some people complain about the UN because they expect it to do more than it's capable of doing, which is to provide a process for nations to carry out diplomacy. Obviously it's not perfect, but neither are the member nations, and I can't see how having it hurts.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Especially when you consider it was game 1 of 162. Imagine what a performance like that in the playoffs would've done to her life? I thought Princess Dye was a guy

I swear, some of you have mechanisms in your brain that cause you to have a psychotic break at the mention of Jerry Owens's name.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) They're no worse than the pushy salesman who tries and sell an extended warranty ontop of the TV or tell me that "The most important thing with flatscreen TV's is the quality of your cables" and then try to shove a monster cable down your throat for $150. They got me once on that as I picked up a cable in an open package for $65 or so and even at the separate register the clerk commented on my open cable. "Ooh, that's a nice cable." It was really a drop in a bucket compared to everything else I made in that purchase. I read a lot of stories on bestbuysucks.com that make me even think less of POS salesmen. I remember Circuit City's no questions asked return policy too. I had a calculator that was damaged by too much exposure to rain so I bought a new one, swapped them in the packaging and returned it for full price. Take THAT! mother nature. lol especially when it comes to digital cables. The data is just 0s and 1s and it will either get there or it won't, there is no loss of signal quality. If it can be avoided do not ever buy a cable at Best Buy, if you see a 70 dollar HDMI cable you can probably get a cheap cable on Amazon.com for like 9 bucks that does the exact same thing.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 12:39 AM) if he recovers fully from this injury, i guess we then would need to shift our focus onto why he wasn't very good last year before the injury, and if that kind of performance will be the norm in 2009 i remember way early into the year in 2008, his fork ball was sick, it even had stoney salivating for a couple months, before it eventually became less sharp He was injured wasn't he? He was outstanding for the first 2 months then he started to suck and nobody knew why.
