Generally I just don't go outside at all if it can be avoided when it's that cold. It doesn't ever get like that here on the east coast though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) If you could get a half a season out of both of them, it would be sweet. Of course, you would have to reserve a spot in the buffet line in front of them for Ramirez. I saw Colon pitch here in Baltimore this past season and good lord he is fat, he looks even rounder than he does on TV.

salon.com has some smart people writing some good opinion pieces about issues. It's a good place to go for someone who honestly wants to hear the liberal point of view on something for whatever reason. For people who complain about how much everybody sucks, not so much.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Actually there was a ton of outrage for Bush doing it. I saw tons of stories on deficits and spending. I myself did much complaining. The Democrats and their followers all cried "Reckless spending!!!" Now Obama is going to run deficits that will absolutely destroy deficit spending records under GW Bush but it's "Good" now. "IF" is the operative word here because that's what kapkomet was saying. If his post was meant to be taken at face value, then it makes no sense. Besides, even if it did make sense, it's not valid anyway, as StrangeSox already pointed out, because s***, people are complaining about it right now. I'm also raising the BS flag on the notion that nobody ever criticizes Obama. Liberals have done nothing BUT b**** from the moment Obama nominated Rahm Emanuel.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Dean is the one who promoted operations in every state, right? Letting go of the idea of "Republican strongholds" that weren't worth contesting was a major part of their success. Obama's ungodly sums of money helped though.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) Yep. Of course we won't hear about the exorbitant (sp.) costs of anything Obama does, because he's the Messiah. I don't follow the logic, if there wasn't enough outrage over Bush doing it, why would there be for Obama?

Currently: Geographic Intelligence American Literature from the Civil War to the Present (god i hate this f***ing class so much, last general class I need) Next up (starting March): Terrorism and Counterterrorism Tactical Intelligence Since I do my classes in pairs I haven't decided what the next 2 will be yet, but they'd start in May. I'm leaning towards Terrorism and U.S. National Security and Open Source Collection.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) You guys seem to be forgetting the biggest reason, and that is the man himself, the President -Elect. That's true, he was a lot of wind behind the sails, but the sails themselves were Dean, and he is the one who got it moving. The GOP could really use a new ship right now, that's their immediate order of business.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) The Australians? If you're talking about the Japanese there might have been that fear in the 80's but that crash in 1990 and the collapse of the Baht in '97 straightened things out. I was talking about both at first, Japan that time. To my knowledge, we have always been tight with the Aussies in about any measurable way, and it almost made me laugh out loud that the article suggested that Bush strengthened ties with them somehow.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) 1943? In the modern/post-industrial era before the Bush administration, sorry I thought that was implied.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) That article is a disaster. I read it, trying to find ones that were actually... you know... accomplishments. The only ones I saw were two that were only partial in nature: 1. The Surge, which is a misnomer anyway, was in part a change in strategy suggested by some very smart military men, and endorsed by Bush. That change in strategy was, in fact, a part of the drop in violence in Iraq. Only a part, though. 2. India. Bush strengthened relations with India in a positive fashion, though I think it was smallish in scale as for what impact it will have. This reminds me of the thread I started a year or two ago, asking people to only mention positive accomplishments of the Bush Presidency. No snark, just his real good stuff. And of course there is some, as there is for any President. Outside of India, which was a very sound strategic direction to go in, I didn't get the whole accomplishment about strengthening ties with Japan and Australia... when have our ties with them been weak? Ever?

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) When did "elite" become a dirty word? I mean, isn't elite better that mediocre? Wouldn't we rather be an elite nation than a mediocre one? Seriously. "Elitist" is the dumbest pejorative in the English language.

That is Onion-caliber bad. Most of those things are on the list of things that were WRONG with his presidency. History is not going to look differently on things like waterboarding, for instance.

Also hemp, which has many uses, would be legal, the fact that hemp is illegal is just plain retarded.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) We can split hairs and call marijuana legal because it is for a small population. You could call alcohol illegal because it is for some groups. But most people will consider alcohol legal because adults can buy it at a store. Most adults will consider marijuana illegal because most adults cannot but it at a legal store. OK, so cigarettes are the new gateway drug. What does that change? What keeps marijuana illegal is very complex and based on much more than image. I'm not sure if I've said this in this thread already, but there is no such thing as a gateway drug, and if there is, it has to be alcohol. What keeps marijuana is the perpetuation of silly, nonsensical concepts and that have no basis in fact, like this one. I'm not even sure where they come from to be honest, because reality is totally different.

He rebuild the party's image and direction from the shambles it was in a few years ago, I'd say he was pretty successful.

You say that like it's a universal thing though. There is no such requirement where I work. I verify my eligibility to work in the U.S. when I got hired (like everyone does). After that, that's it, they don't ask again.

When you guys send friend requests can you put a note saying who you are on the board?

That's better than keeping Babich, not as good as a firing/outright replacement. Hopefully with Marinelli lighting a fire under the ass of the D-line and Babich doing something he doesn't suck at and generally not being an outright liability the D will be respectable again. The play of the MLB lives and dies by the D-line and that's especially true in a Cover 2 scheme.

Probably the same reason Josh Beekman didn't play in '07 when they were eliminated from the playoffs. I do not trust this coaching staff with the ability to evaluate or develop offensive talent in any way whatsoever.

We once had rats in my uncle's house that were getting in through a hole in the basement wall or something. Let me tell you, rats are f***in gangsta, they just plain do not take s*** off humans just because we are bigger. I tried to stare one down once when it climbed in from the bathroom and I was in the dining room playing video games, it walked towards me, stared, and turned around and walked away. Well, we set a couple of big glue traps, the next morning I woke up ready to go to school and my brother and I heard a shrieking sound so he goes in the kitchen and he's like "OH MY GOD THIS IS DISGUSTING COME LOOK!" and not only was the rat stuck in the trap, but it had chewed off one of its legs trying to get out and it was working on another one, there was blood and dirty hair all glued to the floor. Let's just say that was rather unpleasant... we got rid of the rest of them by poisoning them. I couldn't eat for about 2 days after that, lol.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) Yeah, I have to say, to me that should be a game changer. You want to be SecTreas, but you managed to "forget" to pay $34k in back taxes over 5 years? And hire an illegal alien? End of interview. Sir, I'm fully qualified for this job, I'm sure you've gone over my impressive resume and that the references I've provided have verified everything I've told you. Oh, I forgot to tell you, I accidentally f***ed a 14 year old boy a couple hours before this interview. Is that bad?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) I don't know anyone who believed Bush was worse than Hitler or who blindly supported Iran. Where do you meet people like that? I've heard of people who think Bush is worse than Hitler, yeah. Sometimes it's hyperbole but it's hard to tell.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) google Bush is Hitler. Dude theres millions of examples. Did you attend any anti-war protests? I did, as I objected to the Iraq war. Unfortunately, there was a great deal of idiot "Bush=Hitler" signs and other examples of mass stupidity on display. There are literally millions of people like this and they really aren't that hard to find. We even have some that post here, but I'm not goign to name names as it's just going to start a flame war. People hating the president and generally being ignorant, of course I've seen that, that's something other than what you're saying though. I literally have never met nor heard of a single person in my life who blindly supports Iran over America or outwardly hopes our troops fail. Maybe they get carried away with certain things they say, maybe they don't think Iran is as evil as the US does, maybe this opinion is justprojected onto them during heated arguments by people who disagree with them, I don't know, but this was not their stance. I'm not saying these people don't exist, I'm saying I don't know who they are.

Well in the case of the actual countries that border Israel, they actually tried attacking Israel and learned that lesson (umm... don't) the hard way, so they stopped. So now they live vicariously through the Palestinians.
