QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Unfortunately, it's not even much of an exaggeration (as a hyperbole would suggest). Literally, any entity that was against GW Bush was blindly supported by certain liberal groups. It was fairly sad. But who? Maybe I just tune certain types out and don't notice them.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) That right there is the simplest and most profound statement I have read on this subject. And it could be said for everyone in that region. It's also a dramatic oversimplification at face value, and I don't think 2K5's point was to use that statement to summarize the entire conflict.

I smell hyperbole.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread

A boycott to me is extreme. I did boycott the team until Krause retired for a period which left me barely acknowledging Chicago had a basketball franchise for about 3 or 4 years. That hurt to do, but I had nothing to work with. -
I think Leftwich's reputation precedes him which isn't really fair, the question with Jacksonville wasn't whether or not he could play, it was whether or not he could stay on the field. Having him at least be a backup and giving him a shot at the starting job can't hurt. The Bears made the mistake of making Rex the undisputed starter without a viable backup, the seat should still stay a little hot under Orton IMO. I know a lot of fans want to sign Garcia or Warner or someone like that, but if I know my Bears I can't see them doing that.

If you can remember to do so, drink water and/or Powerade before passing out.

Surprise!... Hamas Supporters Use Children as Human Shields

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) I'm not sure it ever does. If you win you were the good guys, if you lost you were the bad guys... regardless of whatever actually happened. It's always been funny to me how we in the Western world viewed the Communist empire as this oppressive, evil entity and we were some righteous beacon of hope for the world... but if you asked some eastern nationalist they would've told you the exact same thing about us (of course that doesn't apply to poor people, they're the exception). The bottom line is everybody's looking out for #1. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) I'm just going after the whole good vs. evil myth of war which does not exist at all. It sometimes does exist, but yeah in most cases where it's claimed to be, it's just glorified nationalist propaganda. Countries act out of their own interests, sometimes those interests compete. There are other factors involved which sometimes make one side legit and the other not, but in the end, it's war, and people are getting killed, and making people suffer and/or die is the whole point. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) I find condoning civilian casualties equally awful. There are more civil ways to say that though, we're all adults here, or at least close to it. edit: and I agree with that premise because a terrorist would also condone civilian casualties claiming their actions are legit -

This is getting awfully personal, let's take it back a couple of notches (i.e., not telling someone what kind of person they are, that is a road this thread doesn't need to go down). -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) You missed my point. As long as marijuana is illegal, you will purchase the product from someone who usually has access to other illegal drugs. It is a gateway of sorts to those other products from a distribution and sales point of view. Just like if you buy your coffee at Starbucks, there are other products there, like lattes, for you to buy. If you are buying beer, there are other products you can buy there, once you are in the door. So by making marijuana legal, you cut off the gateway between marijuana and other illegal drugs. I understand that people who smoke pot also drink alcohol, coffee, wear clothing, read books, and watch TV. Those links are not particularly as interesting to me as the notion of where you buy and what else does that lead to. I missed your point the first time I read it too, that's a valid point.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) I'm looking to upgrade my Harddrive for Xbox, I currently have a 20gb. Should I go to 60gb or 120gb? I just wonder if I will ever use 120gb. I'm thinking of doing that too. I just don't like the obvious price gouging. But I figure I will eventually fill it up as I install certain games on my hard drive.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Is a school an illegal target if being used to launch rockets and AK-47 fire? Actually no, that's kind of beside the point though. -

BTW. I am amused when people (no one has done it here, at least not yet) rationalize the killing of random Palestinians by saying "well they voted Hamas as their government." Given that someone who says that almost certainly doesn't accept this kind of garbage ass logic when Khalid Sheikh Mohammed says the same thing to justify 9-11, why would they accept it here? If you do, fine, but at least be honest about what you believe and clearly state "I support the genocide of Palestinians." Makes it easier for conversation's sake. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) So wanting to kill them before they kill me is having a terrorist like mentality? Okay, I guess. If you ever hear their rhetoric it sounds almost exactly the same as you sound right now, that was Duke's point. I could summarize it to the effect of "the Jews oppress us and bomb our children and families and leave us so poor, we have no other choice than to commit what they call terrorist acts, this is our only means of resistance against tyranny" (I've left all the religious references out of it) -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) No, no, no. You see the difference is I DON'T want to bomb anyone. However, Hamas and other terrorist groups DO WANT to bomb people and have and will. And if anyone thinks sitting back, condemning their actions with "words", and hoping they'll get tired of killing people eventually, they're wrong. Ok, I'm gonna go ahead and bite here. Do you even know why? You just kind of keep repeating this as if a bunch of Palestinians just woke up one day and said "hey guys let's form a group where we will just randomly kill the Jews lololz" Do you know why the Palestinians support Hamas? Do you know what the Palestinians (supposedly) want out of all of this? -
Yeah, I almost pissed myself, I was bracing myself for what we'd lose when I opened the thread.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) You can't, but you can severely limit it. No. You can't. You can cut off a branch but until you address the roots the branches will just keep growing back, sometimes with more than one in its place. You can hack furiously all you want and think you're making tons of progress but you really aren't doing anything. -

You really can't just eradicate terrorism by killing more people though, it doesn't work like that and is much more complicated. Unless your plan is to basically kill everyone. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Yes I meant Western goverments. Which is the United States, but also the media. I think they are afraid to criticize Israel. In United States politics there is a uniform standard of language to use when discussing Israel publicly. You probably notice there is virtually no difference between Democrats and Republicans as far as policy goes. The party line there is the same. It's really bizarre how strict the support has to be, if you even so much as deviate from the standard phrases that's almost as bad as condemning Israel's actions. It seems you're allowed a certain number of slaps on the wrist when they do something bad, but don't overdo it. Obama giving his speech in front of AIPAC during the Democratic primaries was so surreal to me that it was funny. You can't be taken seriously as an American politician without having hardcore support for Israel. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) I don't know if I would take either White Sox player over either Twins player. Quentin over Morneau IMO, but not Mauer.
