I'm pretty sure you can ask whatever the hell you want (the worst that happens is they say no), that type of thing is publicly available information and it doesn't matter who knows. edit: also this doesn't involve the feds which if I'm not mistaken is who the FOIA applies to.

DC actually has the real New York in it I thought.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) You are right in the part that they are totally different circumstances... Legally, the Dems have less reason to not seat Burris, than the Repubs do Franken. There is no clear legal reason why Roland Burris should not be seated. Now if the Dems in Illinois had manned up and done something quickly, they could have taken Blago's ability to appoint someone by either impeaching him or calling a special election. They did not do so. On the other side, there is a clear legal statute that saids if there are lawsuits, the election is not certified, which we all know the MN GOP will be in the courts right away to file those challenges. Correct, and for all the (justified) b****ing about the way things should be done, honestly I can't think of any reason why it would go differently, barring a quick change to the IL constitution which is unlikely. IL law (and I would assume most states) never accounted for the fact that one of its Senators would be elected President, and that one of its governors would try and sell the seat.

caulfield, offhand I can't recall if you've read and acknowledged the pinned thread at the top of the Filibuster. If not, please do so.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) The MN courts previously ruled on some 1200 improperly rejected absentee ballots, saying that they would be accepted and counted if both the Coleman and Franken campaigns agreed. Surprisingly, yesterday the Coleman campaign agreed to count some 900+ of those ballots, and this increased Franken's lead to 225 votes. The elections commission is expected to certify Franken as the winner on Monday. Coleman's campaign has basically 1 legal challenge remaining, asking a court to count some 600 absentee ballots from coleman-friendly districts that were judged to be properly rejected. They continue to complain about double-counted votes, but the courts have rejected those complaints. The Republicans in the Senate have threatened to filibuster any attempt to seat Senator Franken, regardless of the actions of the elections commission tomorrow. Interestingly, they're basing the legality of that filibuster on the same tactics that Reid wants to use to deny seating Burris from IL. Yeah, that's just... no. Regardless of whether what Reid does is legit, these are totally different circumstances , if a guy actually wins an election I don't see how you can refuse to allow it just because you don't like who won. At least in the case of Burris, you have him being appointed by a governor who is accused of taking bribes for that appointment rather than Burris winning an election. Night and day.

QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Illinois Governor Night. The White Sox will sell you a seat for ½ price if you wear pinstripes. Awesome.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) The gauze didn't work too well for me either. I remember being woken up by a friend and being told there was a trail of blood down the side of my face and a small stain on my Sox WS champs shirt. Needless to say, like a true fan I was only worried about the shirt. I had been taking a nap not realizing the bleeding didn't stop yet, I was living in barracks at the time so my friend stops by to bring me some jello or juice or something. My door was cracked open so she just walked in and I sat up with blood all on my face and pillow. lol. She thought my roommate had beat my ass or something.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Why? Is it the Chargers fault the AFC West wasn't very good this year? Indianapolis didn't win their division, San Diego did.. I see no problem with Indy having to go on the road, and if they really were 4 games better than the Chargers, they would have won anyways but they didn't.. I don't care how good the division was, and it is their fault they won 8 games (I'll give you the Denver game, anything else is just excuses). Just like an earlier poster said, the way the NBA does it is the most fair. Winning the division shouldn't be a lock to anything. edit: AZ also should've had to go to ATL, I don't care that it was their first home playoff win in forever. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Or maybe the Chargers and Cardinals are just that good. Again, IMO, way better than anyone from the NFC North. Both of those points are almost completely irrelevant. If you want a home playoff game you should need to win more than 8-9 games, and you don't deserve an advantage over anyone. (If the wild card also only won that many then it's an anomalously s***ty year for the conference). -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) They scored 17 points, and 7 of them were because Antonio Cromartie is an idiot. Now as I said, the punter caused the Colts major problems (they were in the hole all night), but at the same time, scoring 17 points in a road playoff game is going to get you beat almost every time. Or, from the other perspective, you would NEVER expect the Colts to lose, especially in the playoffs, when their defense only gave up 17 points in regulation (and both Chargers touchdown drives in regulation started in Colts territory because Manning couldn't get a first down and they had to punt from their own end zone). Squeaking out a division win with a lot of help in the second worst division in football should not have earned the Chargers a home game in that circumstance, but that's another story. -
Everybody reacts to it differently. I had swelling for a couple of days and it hurt pretty bad but the Percocet made it ok (I went under, btw - the Army did it so cost/insurance wasn't a concern). I was willing to put up with it to get rid of those f***in things though, I hated my wisdom teeth.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chris-kelly/...n_b_154980.html I just laughed out loud at this. Further proof that George W. Bush lives in an alternate reality. Granted, Obama is owned just as completely by the Israeli lobby (god do I hate that about American politics), but the irony in Bush's statement is hilarious and I bet he doesn't even realize it. Sadly his administration has been riddled with those kinds of contradictions for virtually the whole presidency.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) Well Manning should take some blame for last night, he didn't have a great game and San Diego dropped at least 3 interceptions to boot. The Chargers, between the dropped picks, Sproles fumble at the 2, the horrible interception by Rivers, and the nap they took on the long TD, really blew a boatload of chances to win that game comfortably. The fact that they won despite all of those mistakes just shows how talented they are though, and really how shocking it is they started 4-8 this year. The Chargers punter should get some props too though, the Chargers don't overcome all of their gaffes if he doesn't have the game of his life and put Indianapolis on a long field all night. It was as entertaining a game as I saw all season. He had over 300 yards and a TD (and no interceptions, dropped INTs don't count for anything but an incomplete pass), seriously, what the hell do people expect from Manning? He's so good that when he doesn't appear to be immortal, people think he sucks and blame him for not putting on an epic, historic performance. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 01:39 AM) If we had jettisoned Uribe when we did Ozuna, there is no way in hell we'd have won the division. A lot of people were wishing for Uribe to get the ax at that time. I was wishing he'd get the ax before that, I just was really unhappy with him having a starting job. Not so much with him being on the team.

So my dad tells me that my brother is getting evicted because of an incident that happened a couple weeks ago. My brother told me his landlord was talking about putting him out but I assumed it was because of something financial since he had a rough couple of months. But my dad told me it's because he was sitting outside drinking with his workout buddy, who is an ex-con (vehicular manslaughter, which was no surprise to me when I found out since the guy drives like a complete f***ing asshole), and somehow during the course of that conversation the dude gets pissed and says "why didn't you tell me my old lady was f***in someone else while I was in jail" and punches my brother in the face. So he is knocked unconscious, when he comes to, the cops are there, he misses 10 days of work. IMO, it's bulls*** that he's getting evicted, I could see if he was starting trouble, but his only mistake here was having an asshole for a friend, so this is literally insult to injury. It's even more bulls*** if it prevents him from being able to rent another place because he was kicked out of this one. He thinks it's because they're trying to get a bunch of middle-aged tenants with kids to live there, and since he's the last young guy it's a convenient reason to kick him out.

I used to hate Rivers, but he earned my respect last year basically playing with a torn ligament in his knee. I mean really, a lot of QBs are prima donnas. Some just take it to extremes though. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:15 AM) I kind of see it the opposite way of you. I think there will be talk resurfacing about changing the overtime system because Manning didn't get a chance to have the ball based on a simple coin flip. Meh, I don't really want to change the OT system, but I do think there are times where teams win and it's clearly a matter of luck, and I think kicking a long FG is pretty cheesy. But as far as I'm concerned, if your D can't stop the O, your team didn't deserve to win. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:09 AM) He won't. He'll be blamed for the Colts only scoring 17 points. Rivera was prepared today. It would've been only 10 points had that whole substitution debacle not taken place. What if this was Tom Brady with the exact same stat line and results? People would be riding his cock. It's hilarious. A couple of years ago, when Brady threw a pick to ice a game in the 4th, people were saying "well it was just because of the situation he was in, less than a minute left." I called bulls***, because if that was Manning, the same people would've been saying "hahaha Manning sucks, what a choker!" -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) He'd deserve to be blamed for 3 or 4 interceptions if the Chargers defense knew how to catch the ball. They didn't happen so it's a moot point. His accuracy was off (59% completion rate, could've been better) but they were in a position to win that game and didn't lose because of him. I already see people, even Colts fans, blaming him for getting sacked on the 1 which is silly. I'm sure if he had tried harder (or, "not choked") he could've blocked that guy. -

I'm sure that in the great football discussion that takes place across the nation, Peyton Manning will be blamed for the Colts' inability to stop Sproles, as he is always blamed for everything when the Colts lose in the playoffs. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Wow at no one watching today. Two very good games. SD looks like they'll be going to OT with Indianapolis, the weak NFC West champion, Arizona Cardinals prevailed over the Atlanta Falcons. Anyway, dumb playcalling by Rivers/Turner as they spiked the ball with a minute left at the opponent 30 on 1st down trailing by 3 and no timeouts. They tied the game, but on 3rd down, they called a run and were within a yard of first down. The previous play, Rivers threw the ball away. I notice he throws the ball away too much if there are no receivers open instead of running for first downs when he has the chance to. Also, his throwing motion is too over the top, he can't float the ball over anyone's heads and usually his passes are short. I'm watching. I actually thought the Chargers were up 17-14 and the FG put them at 20 b/c I wasn't paying attention, but it was obviously Colts 17-14 and the game is tied. I was like why are the announcers talking OT if the Colts need a TD? -
