QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) oh God no! Not Wrigley Field! haha Well, Boystown is a pretty decent neighborhood too, if you don't mind a bunch of rainbows and whatnot on the main street in your town.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) yeah. I'm probably being nice to Roethlisberger too, because he was pretty terrible this year. In regards to QB rating...Manning 15th (86.4), Delhomme 18th (84.7), Roethlisberger 24th (80.1). I don't know why you didn't question Chad Pennington, seeing as how he had the 2nd best QB rating in the game, but my reasoning behind him is merely that I think he is. He was fantastic this year, but overall has been a mediocre QB. I will also say that Eli Manning might be the most overrated player in the entire NFL. People consider him an elite QB when quite frankly he is anything but an elite QB. Mediocre completion percentage, yards thrown, touchdowns thrown, and QB rating...the only thing he was good at, and pretty much fits hand in hand with a mediocre, game managing QB, is that he didn't turn the ball over much (10 INTs, 2 lost fumbles). Eli Manning is not a franchise QB. Roethlisberger holds on to the ball too long sometimes, but he plays behind an absolutely horrific line. If he was on, say, the Pats, he would dominate.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) New York also has the Fantastic 4, the Incredible Hulk, and Daredevil, and The Punisher Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I heard there was a stadium where some baseball team plays there or something. Might want to check that out.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) Good. F*** New York. I was on a forum somewhere a little while ago reading, there were New Yorkers b****ing and whatnot. I was like come on, you guys f***ing have everything, damn. Every movie is set in either New York or L.A., let us have our moments.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Both of the re-do Batman movies (Begins, TDK) are unabashedly Chicago. Also, when was Gotham ever supposed to be New York (in the movies)? Seems to me in the first 4 movies, it was completely unlike any city, then the last two have been clearly chicago. Whenever it's been talked about, it's always just seemed to be New York by default, and Metropolis was sort of a hybrid of Chicago and New York. But in these Batman movies there is no denying it, the streets, the downtown, the buses, architecture, and some of the skyline (although not the landmark parts with the buildings everybody knows).

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Obviously big spending and deficits don't work either (aka GW Bush). Surprisingly enough, wasting money doesn't help the economy. You don't want to continue the failed Bush regime policies right? I demand change and hope! I guess we could get a new deal type thing and hope WWIII breaks out and have the rest of the world in shambles except the US; like WWII. Yea lets go for that one. Use the new deal combined with world war blueprint to get us out of this economic downturn; as the new deal alone doesn't work. It also helps when other world powers owe you a s***-ton of money like they did after both of those wars.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) Technically I think he was 3rd to the last. I finally joined the ranks last night (yay for $1 DVD rental machines). No, I'm officially now the last. I don't know what the hell I was waiting for. BTW, and I'm not going to go back through the 20+ pages to see if this has already been discussed, but has anyone noticed Gotham looks more like Chicago than New York anymore? I know it was filmed in Chicago but there's some things about it that are just unmistakable.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Peyton Manning won his 3rd MVP award today. Well-deserved, he basically carried the Colts into the playoffs on his back. Manning puts up 4000 yard passing seasons like it's no big deal. -

Jones isn't really the kind of player that will call a teammate out directly (except for the time he punched Benson, but that was in the locker room), so that's surprising to me. -
Doing the media center thing on the Xbox is really easy. Mine doesn't perform so well over the wireless network though which I guess is to be expected since my router is in the basement and my 360 is on the second floor.

Eh that's not really racist in the way it was said. Stupid, but not racist.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) I said it somewhere else, but why even have a free market on anything anymore? I think we need to have caps on what EVERYONE can earn, in ANY position... no one needs to have more then $25-30K per year, right? I mean, we can buy food on all that. The rest of everything needs to go to the government so they can take care of every problem we United States of Socialisam needs. They can provide us government owned housing, government owned Yugos, government owned health care (which they decide when we need to be treated for anything), government owned sports teams, government owned kids, government owned everything. I'm so tired of you people who make more then me. You don't need it, you should be "speading your wealth" to the rest of us lowly people who can't make it on our own. Government owned careers, government owned industries (hell, we're almost there, let's just get it over with). I love this thinking. Let's make it happen! CLASS WARFARE IS GONE! Woot! Ok, I'll bite. Why even have a government? Let's just privatize the whole thing! ANARCHY IS THE ONLY PURE FREEDOM! Woot!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) I agree, for the simple reason that the motivation is wrong. Profit motivation and quality health care just don't get along. And with consumer choice being a near non-factor in health care (again, due to that triad), that problem is magnified even further. Right, that is a major piece of the free market equation missing there. Buying health insurance isn't like shopping for a TV or going to a restaurant.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Alberto Gonzalez doesn't understand why everyone thinks he did something wrong. He takes shots at pretty much everyone who might have said anything negative about him in that piece. lol, he damn near answers his own question. Moron.
-
Frankly, I don't like that health insurance is a for-profit industry. I won't go so far as to say I want socialized insurance (YET, because I haven't become convinced it's the wrong idea yet either), and definitely not full-blown government-run healthcare, but this is somewhere I don't think the pure free market is the answer.

I've pretty much accepted that the government is going to spend more in the next couple of years, it would've been the same for a McCain/Republican administration, for as much as those kinds of differences are exaggerated during the election cycle. Right now isn't what I'm so concerned about, I'm concerned with how we got here and our long-term strategy from here on.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) I'm referring to the federal debt also. Right now is perhaps the best time in decades for the federal government to be going in to debt to spend money, for a huge number of reasons, the lack of interest being just the first. I see, but i would probably ok with that if our deficit was something like half the size it is now.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) On the debt part, right now in particular, I disagree. Just look at the bond markets. Right now, the U.S. can basically take out debt without having to pay interest just because it's the only thing people have confidence in. It makes no sense to try to cut down on debt when you can take on debt for free. Are you talking about individual debt? I was talking about the federal deficit.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
lostfan replied to Steve9347's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) What did he say? southsideirish posted them yesterday. Translation/paraphrasing: "How could you not let him serve in the Senate? He's black. If you don't let him serve in the Senate, you're racist, it means you don't want blacks in the Senate." Followed by some not-so-subtle symbolism: I mean, damn, I'm all for having a black person in the Senate and everything, but how about focusing on the fact that Burris is actually qualified to serve in the position first? Not focusing on his race, that completely misses the point of racial equality. It's Jesse Jackson-speak. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) I saw the Blago press conference I would like to commend him; political theatre at it's finest. What a great pick, the senate Dems will have to consider the pick now or be accused of denying the only African-American senator (as Burris has been appointed) a senate seat. Bobby Rush's comments are pretty embarrassing. A lot of times I defend what I think are unfair accusations of someone playing the race card, but holy s***, Rush basically unzipped his pants, put the race card on his cock, and slapped it across everyone's foreheads. I like how he conveniently chose the word "lynched" in his next statement. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Some of his points are definitely salient - the US is showing major cracks. IMO a lot of that was caused by prancing around like our s*** didn't stink and acting like the boss of the world since we were the world's only superpower, as if that status would be maintained indefinitely by default (that's the abridged explanation). All of that is really expensive. We really need to be serious about cutting down on our debt, it really leaves us in a position of weakness.
-
Yeah, I've heard about this guy before. I don't know about the breakup of the U.S. but I'll say this much, our ridiculous federal deficit and borrowing silly amounts of money from China really concerns me, and there are no mainstream politicians that appear to be taking that seriously.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) I'll always be Client #9 to her Holy s***, all this time you had me fooled into thinking you were a conservative. I can see why you wouldn't want to reveal your real identity on the board either.
