Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
lostfan replied to The Beast's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I didn't post here then, but I understood the reasoning behind the Thomas/Aldridge trade, even if I didn't necessarily agree with it. I was really withholding judgment on it, but it didn't make much sense to trade away a solid finished product who fits your immediate need for a raw talent, even if it's a high ceiling type of player. Because you're hoping the raw talent pans out, and if it does, what do you have? Probably something you've already drafted (Aldridge). The Noah pick, that one was just silly to me. Noah seemed to be a different version of Ben Wallace, except faster and not a black hole/liability on offense. Which is fine, if the frontcourt is already solid... but it wasn't, and isn't. -
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 03:22 AM) I call this the 'f*** the next guy' epidemic. Not coffee related...but How about the asshole who loads just enough paper into the copier or printer to finish what he/she needs done. You can tell they did this because there is usually a new case of paper with one pack open and like 17 sheets missing from it sitting right next to the machine. God I hate that s***. I remember at another office I used to work in, there would be a sign that tells people to put the whole stack of paper in. You shouldn't have to tell people to do that.

I knew a guy named Remy Martin. I also knew a girl named Alize. Stupid names is a mild form of child abuse, you should be allowed to assault your parents later in life for it.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) Uribe would have been a better defensive SS than OC if he would have started this year and no one would have noticed. Uribe is, without a doubt, a far better defensive SS than OC.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) No, I understand the law is likely written to have stiffer penalties for assault on the leader of any sovereign nation. I just get the impression that some posters here feel this guy should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law not because he attacked another human being or even because he attacked the leader of a sovereign nation. Rather, it seems that what some feel he really did wrong was to have the audacity to do it to our President. I agree, I just feel that our President is the same as a President/Prime Minister/General Secretary/King/Queen from any other country, and it works both ways.

I'm sure everyone agrees/realizes that when you pour the last of the pot, then you make the next pot ("You kill the joe, make some mo'"). For the most part people follow this rule because if you get caught not doing it, you generally get your ass kicked (exception is when it's close to the end of the workday). However, there are some other things people do that I think are punishable by a punch to the nose. For instance, leaving 1/3 of a cup of coffee is the same thing as leaving it empty. Anyone else have any rules that should be universal?

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) This, not so much. Please explain to me again why someone with no prior criminal record deserves to be locked up for years for throwing a shoe at the US President. Is the President of the US so important to the nation of Iraq that he deserves such reverence? We Americans are not nearly as important as we like to believe and our leaders are no more important than anyone else for that matter. In the words of Crash Davis, GWB is as full of s*** as anyone. The reporter should not have thrown his shoe at Dubyah, but he should be fined and released in fairly short order. If someone did the same to a visiting President of another country I'd guess they were going to face some pretty stiff consequences too.

Eh the 9 year olds can play MLB Power Pros, I'm sure they could play with the remote.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Regardless, the good games for the Wii are so much more fun to play than the good games for the other systems. That's in my opinion, of course. I don't see why they haven't managed to create a game that combines MLB Power Pros with the simple motion ability of the Wii Sports Baseball game. If they made this simple connection, and had it so you could swing as the real players as well as Wii Sports allows, I'd probably never put it down. Yeah, that'd be f***ing awesome, and it seems like it'd be so easy to create. Get the MLB license, add in things like bunting, stealing, and contact/power swinging, and I'd be addicted. Why won't they do it?

Article: Why John McCain Will (Likely) Be President

I just read this thread yesterday cuz I had skipped over it back then, good lord, it was way off. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) Sadly, under Saddam, Iraq and Iraqis were better off. And the argument that they'll be better off in 10 or 20 years now free of Saddam, is pointless, because Saddam would have been gone anyway. Iraqis are significantly worse off because of this war, and that's an impressive feat. If BushCo had bothered to pay even the slightest attention to how the building of such a factuous nation should proceed, instead of simply handing it off to political appointee goons, then perhaps an argument could be made that Iraqis could have been better off. It's too bad it took us 3 or 4 years to finally figure out what the f*** we were doing. It's like the plan was like this: 1. invade country, destroy army (this should be easy, we're good at it) 2.
-
I quite honestly don't care about how the Iraqis lived, then, or now. It wasn't our business until we made it our business (for other reasons which have turned out to be BS), something I wish we'd quit doing.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) this i disagree with. Nintendo has historically been a problem with 3rd party developers because they try to control so many aspects of the development on the system. Their 3rd party "family" is kind of small. The WiiWare is a different aspect which is giving 3rd party developers opportunities to test out games, but its still pretty strict. I still love the classic catalog to download from though That was in the past, it's not nearly bad as it used to be. Nintendo's arrogance was their undoing from the #1 spot, and they started losing 3rd party support with the N64, what with the whole disk drive fiasco. I'm pretty sure they've learned that lesson, they're back at #1 and they want to stay there. Granted, the easiest system to write for is probably the 360, but if you just want to make a quick buck by making a crappy game that has some token gimmicky use of controls, the Wii is the way to go.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) There are bad wii games and good games. Same with Ps3,360 and my example: dvds. So, yes it is. The amount of shovelware on the Wii is probably more than with the PS3 and 360 combined because it's so popular and it's easy for 3rd party companies to make money. There are good games for the Wii obviously, but they are marketed at a completely different audience. Furthermore Nintendo's been the "family" console for a good 10 years now, so yeah, they're gonna have a lot of kids games, many of which will be s***ty.

Try Amazon, usually you can find some pretty good stuff too unless it's a classic game, and the seller will charge sodomy prices. Also on the Wii you can download old games.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) I can't stand the thought of Obama as president and the policies he's getting ready to put in place, but you know what? I still respect the office of president and still respect that the man got elected even though I disagree with him politically, unlike most of you people as evidenced by this post right here. Well, I think Bush was pretty much a failure all around, and I agree that I see no reason to defend him on that front, as a president. I never rooted for him to fail, not once. I just got pissed off during the times that he did, which was a lot, and it'd be different if he had done more things right, but I think I can count them on one hand. As far as the people in various places I go to that have comments enabled that are giddy at the prospect of Obama going down in flames over this (which I doubt if he does, and this would be the equivalent of rooting for Bush to fail), I can't understand that, and that attitude says a lot about their priorities as an American. When the president fails it means America fails.

Yaaaaaaaaaaawn. More stupid, pointless political discourse that I actually lose IQ points by reading. Next

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Why haven't they banned microwave popcorn in the office work setting. How can anyone work when the entire floor smells like fresh popcorn!?!?!? Word. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) Well arent you lucky. Im always wondering how anyone can work around here when the entire floor smells like BURNT popcorn. And word. What I've always found odd about popcorn is that it smells so good, and it makes you so hungry, but it's basically useless as a food, all it does is taste good.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but if Obama knew about the seat being sold and didn't do anything to stop it that would be a big deal. I think it's obvious that he wasn't going to pay Blago's bribe and probably didn't want anything to do with the whole situation, but still he is the president elect and if he knows about a Senate seat possibly being sold he would obviously need to take appropriate action. I have a feeling that he has realized this and maybe that's why the story has changed a bit. I thought I read somewhere that Rahm Emanuel blew a whistle at some point. -

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) About as much correlation as John McCain being George W. Bush the Second. It's funny when the same games are played by "your guy" how he's defended in his actions. Who's defending him? I basically called him a dumbass just now. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) That's been my issue from day one with it. If you want to be different than the administration you are replacing, you probably shouldn't be using their playbook. I think the difference here is, most reasonable people don't even suspect Obama did anything wrong since it basically says he wasn't going to give Blago anything in the affidavit, whereas Bush would just stonewall and claim executive privilege whenever there was even a hint of wrongdoing. Unless this is a part of a larger strategy (my guess is avoiding the need to testify), Obama's creating unnecessary drama by being tight-lipped here. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) The thing is that his results have resulted in record taxes and fees, and he still manages to keep getting votes. Its crazy. There's never really much in the way of competition, either. Same goes for Gov. usually.

That by itself really means absolutely nothing, and is 100% acceptable unless Obama was somehow involved in bribes (and from the affidavit it appears he wasn't). I mean, really, what dummy actually thinks a senator leaving to become president wouldn't talk to the governor of his state about a replacement? Obama's a moron for answering the question the way he did, turning this one-day non-story into a week-long or longer story, still about nothing.
