  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) More steals, fewer walks, several years older (and less chance of developing further), I'd say less power. In net differences I'd say they're about the same. They are both outstanding fielders, Patterson's probably a little better. The only real difference is that Anderson's only played one full season as a MLB starter.
  2. Corey Patterson is basically a black Brian Anderson IMO.
  3. It's way too early to be saying ANYTHING about Chris Williams one way or another. If you want to b**** about something, that's valid, but what's to be b****ed about is that they ignored the red flags on his back injury and drafted him over Otah, which was pretty dumb. But if he recovers from his injury and comes back strong once he's been through camp, this whole season becomes moot.
  4. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) His career avg was .247 and he was in decline before his prime. Swisher was always over-rated...he hit the scene, had a couple nice years, and then Oakland flipped him for another orgs 3 best prospects at the time. A year later, that same Swisher is flipped again, this time for 3 marginal (at best) prospects. In two years, Swish will be dealt for a PTNBL, the guy sucks. If his avg and OBP were both 30 points higher (and by extension his SLG), nobody would've had a problem with him. He's not my kind of player, but nobody realistically predicted that across-the-board drop where he went from career high to career low, and anyone who says they did is just plain lying.
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) I agree with you Steve9347 on some of the absolute ridiculous statements made about Dye. Jermanine Dye is a winner and is a main reason this team won last year and in 2005. To trade him even up for Homer Bailey is absolute trash itself. We take on someone elses underachiever thinking good ole Coop can turn him around while losing a team leader and proven star. I can't belive this deal might even be considered. Because Homer Bailey is potentially an ace who hasn't been given up on yet, they don't just grow on trees. Would anyone say that Jermaine Dye is worth, say, Justin Verlander straight up? I doubt it.
  6. There once was a team called the Dash Note: probably should see "Warthog" thread in the minor league forum first, lol
  7. You see, nobody actually disagrees with anything you just said there, except for your bizarre misrepresentations of how people actually feel. Pretty much everybody here understands the trade, all of us know it's a business and that JD's value is peak right now before he starts to decline, but to call JD trash and say good f***ing riddance, that's just... no. On so many levels. He's still one of the most productive corner OFs in the game, until the last month of the season where he completely disappeared he was right behind Carlos Quentin statistically. I saw a stat somewhere that said he's hit more HRs than any other OF the past 3 years. Arguably, he's consistently the best player on the team since he was signed.
  8. Anyone who thought Swisher would suck so bad is looking at that situation with pure hindsight. If he had put up something close to his career numbers he'd still be here. At the time there was no reason to believe he'd suck so much.
  9. Awesome use of the 2 top 10 picks that were gift-wrapped for Eddy Curry.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) So.....Chris Williams....Is he going to play? I don't see the need to rush him into playing. This is different than last year, when we were clearly out of the playoff picture, and they absolutely refused to play Josh Beekman.
  11. QUOTE (frankiethefixer @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) don't forget aaron cunningham for richar. in a couple of years i have a feeling that will be one of his worst ones. Meh, it really made sense at the time. We had a relative surplus of OFs in the system, and almost no middle IF prospects.
  12. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) This floored me. It's not like he drove in the winning run in the 8th inning to win the world series or anything like that. If you aren't going to miss JD, you are not a White Sox fan. The man has done just as much for our franchise in the last 100 years as almost anyone in our history. JD will be missed greatly, and I will hate to see him in another uniform. Or... like... won the MVP of that series, or anything like that
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) If we trade Dye, move the missle to RF and sign Furcal. Getz will be fine at 2b Give CF and the 9 hole to Anderson. Furcal makes more sense than the other offensive FA because he can hit leadoff. Why on earth would we put Alexei in RF... he's not a corner OF, he'd probably do fine there, but it's a waste of his abilities. Quentin is a natural RF and the only reason he wasn't playing there is becaus of Dye, if Dye goes, that position is his, should be end of discussion.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 05:11 AM) Oliver Perez, Andy Pettitte, Randy Wolf, and Brad Penny. I think those are the four pitchers KW would be most likely to look at if he went the FA route, although Perez might be knocked off the list unless we grab Homer Bailey because it would give us four lefties. Same with Pettitte, although he would seem to be a perfect "veteran fit" to go with Buehrle and mentor Bailey/Poreda/Danks/Floyd, etc. Wolf and Penny have so-so injury histories, at best...then there's Jon Garland, who would be like bringing back Javier Vazquez, essentially. ^^ with the key difference being that Garland's playoff ERA is 2.25 and Javy's is 10.34 in about the same amount of IP.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:07 AM) We're in full rebuilding (if not borderline firesale) mode if the Dye trade rumor is true, so I have a hard time feeling as good about this as I might otherwise have. Hopefully that rumor is false, and I can have full appreciation that we actually have some draft picks stockpiled. IF we get Furcal, and he stays healthy, it all becomes moot.
  16. QUOTE (1399 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:19 AM) Ummm guys. It's looking like the deal isnt a deal after all so why the hype? If it turns out to be true then I have no problem trading Dye for Bailey straight up. Dye and his whopping .210 average with RISP will not be missed. Besides, despite Dye having a decent 08 season he was one of the problems (Thome, Swisher, Paulie, Dye) that couldnt drive runs in so I dont see what we would be missing if Dye's over paid ass was traded. If this rumor is true then I say good f***ing riddence and see if Cinci would be interested in Paulie and Thome too. Im sick of seeing multi millionaires under achieving. If were going to have s***ty production then let it be from some younger kids that are eager to play. The middle of the order sucked to say the least and was flat. Change is needed and it's time for Kenny to take out the trash as he has already started to do with Swisher and Javy. I can only hope there are more trades to follow soon. You're pretty much speaking only for you, but definitely not me as a Sox fan
  17. An anatomically correct sports logo, awesome
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) There's no way that Dunn should be in the same lineup as Thome. the Cell will be air-conditioned by all the whiffs that those two will have. Throw in Josh Fields and I think we may have solved our nation's alternative energy problems.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Yeah I meant Blu-Ray vs SD-DVD. Then yeah, you will most definitely see the difference in quality, it'll be substantial. You won't get max quality out of it without it being on HDMI and in 1080p, but really unless your TV is like 52 inches and you're a really big geek, it probably won't matter to you.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) PS3 question: Do I need a 1080p television to be able to see the difference in blu ray movies? My TV is 1080i. The difference between what? Blu-Ray and SD-DVD? No, you'll notice the difference. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD you probably won't notice at all, and you definitely wouldn't notice on a 1080i TV, which is why I thought the format wars were absurd with the way the fanboys handled themselves (especially the Blu-Ray ones).
  21. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) How the f*** do we plan on scoring this year? Dude, it's only December 7
  22. Please have another player involved... man... I mean I love Homer Bailey's potential, but it's not like we're talking just anybody.
  23. So the Cardinals win the NFC West. The Cardinals have done a great job this year and all, but god is the NFC West f***ing pathetic. Holy s***.
  24. Oh, and BTW I'm going to throw "handout" in as my nominee for least accurate, most tired political cliche.
