When I want minor league or historical stats I go to www.baseball-reference.com. The MiLB stats don't go back past 1992 though.

Worst Professional Sports Franchises Since WWII
lostfan replied to knightni's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well, I'll get the easy one out of the way and say the Chicago Cubs. No evidence required, everyone knows why. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) na thats not true. i've met plenty of people who never use words like 'elitist' that are complete idiots and hate anything intellectual. they basically can't comprehend advanced thought and basically write it off as "doesn't exist, me just repeat what someone else tell me to think. me watch MTV for political news. " You're not actually disagreeing with me, all my point really is is that the anti-intellectual crowd is too dumb to know whether they're a lib or a neocon or even whether they'd want to be, and usually they just regurgitate political views of people around them. The words are just labels that are thrown b/c they at least understand they're in a different category, they just don't know why. I can usually spot them a mile away and whenever I talk to one of them face to face they either go blank, change the subject, or let me talk endlessly b/c my knowledge compared to theirs is infinite. I just had a conversation with one today in fact.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) i agree. anti-intellectualism is rampant among liberals and neo-cons. No, it's not really either one of them. It's basically anyone who would use a word/phrase like "overeducated" or "elitist" (when in reference to someone's education), those type of people don't really fit into either mold because to be honest, almost by definition, they're not really smart enough to know which they'd fall into, and they embrace that ignorance. I really don't understand that and frankly it's f***ing stupid, yet you have certain politicians who draw thunderous applause when they say it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) That is how I would envision it. The auto comanies, minus the legacy costs, are still a profitable business, especially if they can get some wage concessions from the unions in a bankruptcy. If we are talking about long term health for the industry, I believe bankruptcy is the best way. I don't have as big of a problem with the bailout now that I know about the unions taking over the pension plans, but it still isn't the way I would prefer to see things go. Hey would you look at that, I sort of almost changed somebody's mind. Without even trying.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) Good. I hope they take him down, all with the entire Illinois Machine. They need to clean the whole state out. That's a little ambitious there.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) The people at the mall that sell those lotions on the carts annoy the hell out of me.Even when I walk past them on the fourth time they still ask me would I like to try some out. I say NO and then they use that f***ing line "Can I ask you a question?",which gets most people to stop because they say it in a way that in the back of your mind your thinking the question has nothing to do with the product. The Arundel Mills mall here is the absolute worst for that. They are usually Israeli, they try to sell you some useless crap you don't want. If they've already gotten your attention and you keep saying no, they will keep dropping the price, but you still don't want it. I always either pretend to be on the phone, look down and start acting like I'm typing a text message, or lie and tell them I already bought whatever they're selling.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) That and the fact that most people get heavier as the years go on. He has a reputation as being a bit lazy, but that could change. Then again, Prince Fielder seems to do OK with some extra girth. The thing that concerned me was his agent saying he was in great shape. Maybe that means he was heavier before his workouts. Who knows. I'll give the kid the benefit of my doubt and hope he seizes the great opportunity he has for himself. He swings hard. I like guys that swing hard. Really though what do you expect his agent to say? "My client is a fat f*** but it's all good"

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) MP8 is only rated that way because of the whoring of the series and a refuse to innovatee. I haven't actually played it but from my experience 7 was every bit as fun as one and every other one in between. Still, WarioWare is one of the best new IPs created over the past ten years. I just don't get it's purpose on consoles. I agree. If you want to play Mario Party, just buy any one of them. They're all the same game. I ended up taking MP8 back after about a month.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) I dont know about that. The way I look at it, they are looking directly at me. Im far from the casual gamer, but I am also far from the hardcore gamer. I dont stay up all night playing COD and HALO, but I definitely put my time in playing games like Mario Galaxy, Zelda, and now I am downloading older games I used to love to play (Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Super Mario 1 and 3), as well as playing WiiWare games that are only available for download and are basically tester games. as always, time will tell if they truly sold out, when we look back at what the system provided and how popular it really was. Everybody's gonna see it different of course, but there are only a handful of games on Nintendo that I actually care about anymore, and it's the same old ones I've always liked, nothing new. It's great to play with kids, its fun to go back to the days when it was all about the gameplay too. But to be honest, I don't think waving a remote around in the air, in and of itself, isn't all that cool after a while. There's a ton of shovelware games or crappy ports on the Wii that do exactly that, it's like the days of the NES all over again where games are pushed out just to make a buck real fast. And sometimes it's like they really just half-ass the inclusion of the Wii remote into the game just to say they did it - Mario Party 8 for example. That was basically a Gamecube game. In fact the Wii is basically a Gamecube with innovative controls. Now, I understand that Nintendo is capitalizing on the fact that gamers don't want to take out a second mortgage every 5 years to basically buy a new computer, but graphics pretty much do matter when the difference is THAT big. I play Mario Kart, and it's fun as hell. But at the same time I have a need to play games like Fallout 3 that the Wii could never hope to run.
-
I really like the Wii and all, but I really feel like Nintendo sold out, literally. Don't get me wrong, what they did was f***ing brilliant and all, but I just feel like I'm a peripheral to their target audience anymore. Their audience is obviously non-gamers and casual gamers.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) Doesnt mean its right. I personally think kids need to be given some privacy, as there are other methods to dealing with the situation rather than spying on her. YOu just b****ing and being an asshole about it probably doesnt scare her, as she can just lie her way out of it like she has done. Or so she believes that. Instead, take some more force in the situation and ground her, or take away myspace or what she does for fun until you get back what you think is fun (your game). Make her realize fairness, if she took your game then she should pay for it (literally, in that she should buy you a new one or you get something of hers). I know as a kid whenever my dad threatened to ground me or did some punishment like I had to work to recover something I did etc made me quite scared to do anything drastic or especially me losing what limited money I had anyways. Actually, after this, I think I'm going to tell her that she's going to let me and her mother have access to everything she does on there or she's going to delete the account. Like I said, she has no right to privacy and she certainly hasn't earned it, and I see no reason whatsoever why I should trust her (there's been a couple of other, more minor incidents), so I'm going to tell her as much. In fact, even when she created her Myspace she was being sneaky about it b/c she knows she's supposed to be 13 to actually have an account. I don't even remember why I let her keep it but that was a mistake, I was too lenient. She thinks she can get away with so much... she doesn't realize she isn't as smart as she thinks she is yet. When I told her I was going to be an asshole, this was a few days before I suspected her of (probably) lying and stealing. I was just mad b/c she was putting her hands on things that don't belong to her again, and that was the latest incident. This is much more serious and I'm thinking of an appropriate punishment, and it will be a pretty severe one.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) That doesn't seem a little too much to you? Spying on her electronic communications? Nope. She really has no right to privacy in that situation. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only parent that does that either.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) Kids are stupid about things like that. My son only recently figured out how to erase the brower history. Although I have informed him that I can still find out where he goes because compared to him, I am a computer God, and then proceeded to show him on his computer where he had TRIED to hide some porn, and then recited the list of things said on hi Myspace page that he didn't know I knew about. STILL tried to insist that he didn't have anythign to do with the page, despite several specific messages on there between him and his girlfriend. Sometimes it just takes an aa whippin'. I simply removed everythgin from his room except the bed and 2 sets of clothes, which were also clothes he didn't like. My room and the office were pretty crowded with his desk, computer, guitar, etc. but he slowly earned it back, and either learned his lesson, or now hides stuff very well. I even had a friend who is a computer genius over last weekend take a look at it, and can't find anything that is new. Good luck, Lostfan. It aint easy being the bad guy. lol. the reason she is allowed to have a myspace (she is 11), unbeknownst to her, is that she never remembers to log out so I spy on her conversations fairly regularly. Most of it is mindless 6th grade chatter.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) Listen up fatos, going to the gym for 4 days after a holiday isnt going to make you skinnier, you didnt go before, and you wont go in a few weeks, just stay home and let the food take its course. Same thing applies for the first 2 weeks of January.
