I wouldn't really call Gates a Republican. He's not partisan like that. You guys all know how happy I am with this pick though.
-
He's still going to push progressive policies that a lot of liberals want to see, but he's directing his political capital where it's best used for now. He can't push them all. I'm sure he'll have some progressive appointments in his cabinet before too long, but the emphasis is on the what, not the who or the how.

BigSqwert, this is what I was trying to say yesterday, but it's explained a lot better here. http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/ezrakle...ty_ofcompetence

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) The other issue was the time he had, many conspiracy buffs believe he could not have gotten off three shots in the time allowed. It is also suspect that he missed on one and then made two solid hits on the follow up. I've seen this with novice shooters who do better on their second and third shots on a deer because they are reacting and not thinking. However, for a trained marksman like Oswald, I am troubled by that. Unless he had second thoughts as he squeezed the trigger on the first shot. At that distance, a couple of seconds to re-align the sight picture really isn't that big of a deal either. The target still looks pretty big.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) Reminds me of all the 9/11 conspiracy theory movies/ websites out there that have quotes from people saying the 'supposed' plane that hit the Pentagon "sounded like a cruise missile!" Right, because you've ever heard a cruise missile screaming along at a few hundred miles an hour. bahaha yeah. Everyone knows what a cruise missile sounds like, didn't you know? Are you retarded?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) Most researchers peg the number at about 90 yards. Less than half the distance that Oswald was proficient while being trained in the US military. They talk about him living in Russia for a couple years and his trip to the Cuban embassy, but the guy was wacked by most accounts. Sadly, his best training was by the US military. Much like we trained other mass and serial killers. 90 yards is really nothing, if we're talking about a rifle and not a handgun. If I'm looking at the silhouette of a human, I can pretty much automatically hit it if I'm given enough time. I think it's also safe to say that anyone who knows how to fire a rifle can do it pretty easily too.

McCain / Obama Worked Together Behind the Scenes

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) But a majority of Americans voted for the most liberal Senator in Congress to lead us. So yeah, we. You, me, and NSS (to give examples of people in this thread right now) all voted for the same guy. The three of us all have different political views and reasons for voting for him. Politics isn't simple black and white like that (no pun intended). -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Actually, the Democrats have ran a lot of fairly conservative Democrats in the past couple elections to get their big majority in the Senate. The only really crazy liberal to run was Franken, and a lot of Obama voters in Minn didn't even punch the ticket for him. Rahm Emmanuel's idea. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) Forte is a rookie out of a C-USA school. He's averaging 4 ypc, and right now, he's one of the best receiving RB's. He can block pretty well too, and I noticed one play in the game yesterday when an Orton pass was deflected up in the air, and instead of watching, Forte ran and knocked it down. He is a good RB right now with great instincts. He reminds me of Thomas Jones, except not as flashy, quicker, faster, and obviously not as ripped (holy s*** does Jones ever have some massive biceps) -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Well that's my problem with this. America didn't resoundingly elect a Democratic executive and legislative branch to make incremental change. We want sweeping change. You say "we" and you're only speaking for the hard left, which is a minority. Obama's the president of everybody, and he's looking at being re-elected. "Sweeping change" (whatever that is) is just not realistic. I'm more concerned with effectiveness. Definition of "left" and "right": Left - describes those who are often "left" out of the political process due to their extreme, uncompromising, and therefore often irrelevant positions Right - those who believe they rule by divine "right," and everyone else must follow without question because everything they say is "right" -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) You'll see significant progress towards full alternative energy use, but not enough in 8 or 10 years to be fully off foreign oil. You'll see us leave Iraq (fully or almost fully) within Obama's first term. Funny thing though, same thing would have been true with McCain in office. You'll see major changes to health care, though maybe not as complete as billed. Those are my predictions. If he manages to accomplish those things while navigating the clusterf*** of a minefield he's inheriting, that will be a successful first term and and easy landslide re-election. None of those things are easy. -

I don't see where you're going with this. Did you fall on your head this morning and confuse me with a Bush apologist or something? I just find their Chicken Little panic amusing, is all. If Obama wanted to be a Jimmy Carter-esque epic fail then he should take his cues from those blogs. -

QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Oh hell, that would piss off the liberals. I've been browsing various liberal blog comments and they're already flipping the f*** out because it's clear to them that Obama doesn't intend on governing as a leftist like they had somehow convinced themselves he was going to do. They're mad that he didn't "punish" Lieberman, they're mad that he's asked Hillary to be Secretary of State, they're mad that he's talking about keeping Gates on, and so on. But when it comes down to it, what are they going to do? Not vote for him? Please. I'd call that bluff. -
Profits are privatized, losses are socialized... that's awesome. That is what I'm throwing back next time someone argues against progressive taxation with a substance-free slogan.

They're just so... beautifully... huge. She's gone up almost 2 cup sizes, it's just like wow.

So today I went to lunch with a friend who I haven't seen for quite a while since she's been overseas. Now she's about 4 months pregnant... and holy s*** are her boobs ever huge now, I couldn't stop looking. She thought it was funny and didn't care.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) I got news for you. The Bears have the worse wide-receiving corps in the NFL, so yes, WR is easily one of there biggest needs. The defensive problems are primarily due to a lack of pass-rush and I'd direct that at the ends, thus making the DE position a huge need. After that I think you'd point towards the oline and safety well before I'd point at the LB corps (Briggs/Urlacher are both above average LB's...Briggs might be the best OLB in football right now). IMO Urlacher's problems stem from how he's being used. He's being wasted on pointless fake blitzes. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) Some of them would be overpaid even if they were performing to their capabilities. Besides Vasher, who? And that's even a reach considering the production the Bears were getting out of Vasher at the time. Anyone suggesting that it was a mistake to extend Tommie Harris is looking through 20/20 hindsight glasses btw. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) I don't see how anybody can call Angelo and the Bears cheap right now. Most of their defense is VERY overpaid. They're not overpaid, they're underperforming. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) With virtually everyone already extended...it seems to me this should be a year for the Bears to spend some cap room to fill one of those spots (the Cinci WR's come to Mind) Angelo doesn't spend cap money just for the sake of doing it when it's there. He isn't "cheap," that's just the battlefield cry of the meathead fans, but he doesn't sign big-name FAs unless he needs them. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) Oline, WR, and DE are the three biggest needs. If the Bears don't draft another OT, I'm going to be pissed. Chris Williams might end up being a good pick after the hand-wringing and inconvenience of his back injury this year, but Tait is running out of gas quickly. Of course, it probably won't happen. Another G would be nice too, Beekman has been surprisingly good IMO but Kreutz is a borderline liability and shell of his former self. They really do need another DE though... what the hell happened to Ogunleye? He had a monster year last year, and then... -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) Forte entered today averaging 3.8 yards a carry. That will go up after beating on the pathetic Rams, but to compare him to TCQ is laughable. It appears he can join Orton in the overrated pantheon at the moment. Forte is much more talented and fundamentally sound at his position than Orton. He's no AD of course, and the comparisons to TCQ are hyperbole but he's solid, and right now that pick is looking like an A. It's rare that Angelo gets an offensive skill position pick right. -

Devin Hester sucks now, what happened? It's like he's not even interested in returning anymore and living entirely off his reputation while producing 0 results. I guess that happens when you're told you'll only make big money if you put up big WR numbers... start taking it easy on the returns, after all you get that money regardless and you wouldn't want to jeopardize those other dollars right? -

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) I don't understand the Orton love, he has been extremely mediocre for the most part. Has had two good games vs very poor pass defenses and than mediocre to bad. He was also pretty bad against a brutal Rams defense, should of had a couple of picks today. I like Orton as a backup for sure and without a doubt Grossman is done in Chicago, but at the same time besides Bradford not many QB's impress me in the upcoming draft. I think I would want the Bears to go with their top pick on the OL again. It's good to see someone else not overdosing on the kool-aid. Just because Orton is better than what Grossman has become and because he beat the piss out of some of the worst secondaries in the NFL a few weeks in a row doesn't automatically mean he's the answer. It means he's an acceptable option, which is a sky-high rating by Chicago's pathetic standards. Pointing this out doesn't make one a hater or a Grossman fanboy either. I'm content with Orton starting at QB for now but it doesn't mean the Bears shouldn't go for an upgrade if it becomes available. They made that mistake with Grossman and they had better not do it again.
