QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) While I agree most times medical records should be private, she is the one running for office and could be in a position to have the most powerful job in the world. Voters should know the medical histories of all candidates, just like baseball teams should put players through physicals when signing them or trading for them. If there is something seriously wrong with them, or a possibility of serious issues that could either prevent them from being able to serve or affect their ability to do the job, voters should know. If they have herpes, while it may show a lack of judgement at one time and maybe not, it probably isn't something that everyone needs to know. I'm not arguing that the important stuff shouldn't be released, I'm just wondering why some people (not necessarily here in the Filibuster) think they're entitled to seeing a candidate's full medical history. I just threw herpes out there as an obvious example of a medical condition someone wouldn't want publicized.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 04:09 AM) In regards to Uribe at least, 2008 wasn't one of his typical hot streaks. In years past he would literally carry the team for 2 weeks or so via HR and then cool down. This year he came up big in the right spots over a longer period of time- yeah he did raise his BA by 40 or so points, but he did it with situational hitting, RISP, the leadoff double, etc. 2008 was my favorite year of Uribe despite the lack of profundo. He wouldn't just cool off... he'd go down to damn near absolute zero for weeks at a time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) A partial release is something they could also have done. Or they could just put them in a room, give people 20 minutes, and say "That's all you get". I thought she did that already? Like 2-3 weeks ago.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) I think the original one said "Loose a Turn". But why not release them to shut everyone up? Why should she have to though? What if she has herpes or something? Should she have to reveal that to everybody? I know it sounds like I'm being facetious but I'm not.

Yeah, it's pretty sad, she almost lived to see the whole thing. Although at this point, it hardly matters. How many people get to live to see their grandkids take a convincing poll lead into the day before Election Day?

There was also "Hot for Hillary" girl, she's supporting Obama now though.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) yeah pretty much. Sad isn't it. Which is why I know I can suggest this and not have it happen I'm sick of watching political campaigns with a new wave of promises and they didn't deliver on their last ones. I'm tired of politicians needing to start running for reelection 6 months after they win the last election. I'm especially thinking I don't want Presidents running for office for 30 months of a 48 month term. There's reasons for this. In a nutshell, the public as a body is dumb. You have to pander to the lowest common denominator which is a pretty big chunk of the electorate. It's not ideal, but you need to get elected before you do anything. To do that you have to BS to some degree. There's no way around it.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) You forgot that half my family comes from redneck sections of Kentucy, Tennesee and southern Illinois. I don't see anyone jumping to the protection of rednecks yet, even though Murtha insulted them in Penn. But maybe soon. Even rednecks make fun of rednecks so it's kind of moot. I mean the non-racist kind though. Why the racist rednecks don't get PC protection is pretty obvious.

GOP - Obama Win Could Lead To Second Holocaust
lostfan replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
I think a lot of people are assuming all of the undecideds are going to vote. -
Obama's not going to do anything about NAFTA. The entire thing during the Dem primaries was purely a charade designed to siphon votes off Hillary (it didn't really work that well, but well enough).

Guess which candidate has family members living in the US illegally
lostfan replied to DrunkBomber's topic in The Filibuster
lol. After I realized it had been a full day I figured, the hell with it, I spend too much time on Soxtalk anyway, a little break isn't so bad. It's addictive. -

So I don't log on for like 3 days and look what happens. I guess I missed a lot. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) I was sent a link to the newspaper article online, thats how i found it...i just assumed, having it come from a newspaper, that it was probably okay. Who knows how much is BS and what is fact. It's basically a chain mail. In fact, it IS a chain mail. Some of it is true but there is a fair amount of BS in it that I can recognize up front.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) Im sure if the shoe was on the other foot you would condemn Obama immediately like you are McCain, stay classy. Reddy doesn't even like Obama.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) From Glenn Greewald That looks like some s*** I would see on the Daily Show.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) But its not as simple as Obama says it is. BTW, McCain has made claims of wanting to do similar things. You and me have talked about this before. The bottom line is that the actual distance between 2 candidates on certain issues can be pretty small but it gets exaggerated during a campaign. Take the Democratic primaries for example. Obama and Hillary may as well have been the exact same candidate, but you'd never guess that from what their supporters were talking like.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Here is a question that has concerned me. What exactly does Obama mean by his constant comments about lifting tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. I have worked for a few multi-national based companies headquartered in the US. All of them have had production in the regions, some plants in China and in India and other parts of the world. Now is he going to go hogwild on taxes for multinational corporations because they are not all home grown. If thats the case, that should deck the economy because every single large international company has operations overseas. Some for regional legal requirements, some for cost, and some to have a competitive advantage with having local people speaking the local language. Now because a plant that services a client in say Indiana closes because the company were were supplying raw material for goes out of businesss the area, and one opens up in Shanghai because of a large contract with a Chinese vendor. Does that count as shipping jobs overseas. Its not black and white. I think he's referring to corporations that outsource jobs to save money. It's more of a principle than some major policy overhaul. He's saying that if you want your labor cheaper from India or China, fine, but there is no reason you should be getting a tax break to do that (how relevant this actually is in the big picture, I don't really know, but it resonates with certain people). This kind of stuff doesn't really get explained in detail during a campaign because your average American isn't going to sit and listen to a lecture, and it wouldn't get through. So during the primaries he was sounding like an anti-free trade protectionist. Of course he's not, but in order to keep the support of blue-collar workers, he has to sound attractive to them.

I have nothing constructive to contribute to this Groundhog Day thread.

I swear to god it's like f***ing Groundhog Day in here.

My question about Michelle Obama was partly mocking, partly rhetorical, and partly serious.

QUOTE (Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I knew that was fake as soon as I saw the pic on the Smoking Gun... So I guess the B is backwards because dumbass scratched it into her face while she was looking in the mirror.

Pat Buchanan asked what would happen if SNL mocked Michelle Obama. My response would that would be... what would happen if Michelle Obama was in a debate and spoke the whole time in "South Side" slang and gave a shout-out during a debate?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) clearly you are missing the point. Jesus... like a Juan Uribe strikeout at a pitch a foot over his head.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) I see you're just as slow as I am in picking up the humor. It's hard to pick up sarcasm over text.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) Actually all Obama has to do is win in PA and NH (the only two states in any perceived danger that were Kerry states, and is currently comfortably ahead of McCain), adding in Iowa and New Mexico (which appear to be comfortably for Obama) and pick up Virginia (which also seems more likely) and Obama has 278 electoral votes. Either way, he has more than one path to victory. Among his "safe" or at least "almost safe" states, he has a built-in electoral advantage. Meaning he could lose all of the toss-up or slightly Dem-leaning states (unlikely) and still win.
