  1. Most of the twenty-somethings I know who live with their parents get defensive when someone brings this up. They WANT to have a job where they can afford their own car, their own place, and so on, they're trying to, but they can't. They're all either in college (because they're working while taking classes) or college graduates and they're trying not to be bitter about it, but they're tired of older generations s***ting on them all the time, too. Honestly though can you blame them? Their whole lives they were told "work hard in school so you can go to college and you'll find a job" cuz that's how it was for Boomers and Gen X. But it's not. Why listen to them anyway?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) Hillary is basically where John McCain was. She is next in line, and no one better emerged. McCain's comeback was one of the strangest things. He was completely dead in the water in January, but then Giuliani made one of the dumbest strategic decisions in the history of politics and his campaign imploded, so that changed everything and suddenly he found himself at the top.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 26, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) It's worse in Europe right now. Greece is pathetic. http://www.theguardian.com/society/2009/de...rental-home-ons I meant that Europeans, Africans, Latin Americans, and Asians live with their parents well into adulthood, sometimes their grandparents in the same household. We were different because our economy was different and there was the suburban expansion that came with it. Europe's in that recession they made worse and Greece is probably the worst off of all of them. I know a few people who are 25, 26 etc. and they have full-time jobs, one is an engaged couple and live with their parents (just bought a house though). Post-high school and college is sooooo different for anybody born after about 1980 than it was for those born before. Some of the job listings are laughable, like "Bachelor's degree required, minimum 3 years experience, $11.25/hr" There was a meme for this a couple years ago. http://www.quickmeme.com/Old-Economy-Steven/
  4. This is not at all uncommon outside the United States. But this really has more to do with young people being too saddled with student loan payments and the jobs everyone told them would be waiting when they finished college not being there to support themselves in their early 20s. It also seems that people older than, say, 45 have an exceptionally hard time comprehending because that's just not what the world was like when they were 19.
  5. The High Sparrow storyline worked when it was like a brewing side plot that was taking Cersei down because of her own stupid mistakes, but now that he's in the spotlight I just want someone to off him already.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ May 25, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) Plus it will shut up all of the idiotic Westbrook hate. Last night there was a lot of "Curry is trash because he can't guard Westbrook." Soooo who actually CAN guard Westbrook? Give the dude some credit.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 25, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) I'm absolutely shocked at the OKC run, more of this is about them than GS right now. This is what we all thought about OKC but never ended up getting to see post Harden. Yeah, I'm not really gonna be one of those hater fans. If OKC pulls this out and then actually wins in the Finals, that's much more worth talking about than about GS losing. But that's just kind of what the modern sports fan does, I guess.
  8. It's awesome that the DC shows are going to do the Flashpoint paradox next season but man, Barry Allen is the single dumbest superhero in TV or in movies. My goodness what a total f***ing idiot.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) I like Bernie the best of these 3. I was lamenting no young candidate to choose from and lead America. It is disgraceful those are our three choices. It's why America is not great anymore. Our political system is garbage. It's corrupt on all levels, state and national and we're about to elect one of the biggest scam artists of all. I want youth. We get three octos. Hillary will be 77 when she's in her final year. Meanwhile a 50 year old can't get a job in the real world cause he's making too much jack and companies are saving every penny to give their CEO. Weird world. "This is what our system produces. Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're gonna get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't gonna be any good cuz you'll wind up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. Maybe it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like the public. The public sucks." -Carlin Trump is like the political version of a mathematic proof of this statement.
  10. I'm amused to see Nixon posting on Soxtalk, because this is a very civilized place compared to the board we used to post on, lol. He's kind of a strong drink.
  11. Not trying to derail the thread, I'm just surprised nobody saw that comparison made before. "Ruling is harder than conquering" is a pretty consistent recurring theme in GoT though, at some point every character is affected.
  12. I called her "Daenerys W. Bush" about 10 pages back, lol.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 24, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Guess I never paid attention that close Rapidly conquers territory to liberate them from their current oppressive rulers relatively easily with her overwhelming military superiority, struggles to maintain order after conquering because she doesn't actually understand the local economy, society, or culture, can't solve those problems solely through military means. It's totally apt, it was alluded to in a lot of episode recaps I've read. edit: nm Nixon already explained what he meant
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 24, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Damn, didn't see the filibuster twist coming in this thread The "Daenerys = GWB" thing isn't something that's never been said before
  15. Sophie Turner grew up to be positively gorgeous, I mean damn.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 24, 2016 -> 01:53 AM) Said a couple months back I thought the Raps could beat Cleveland. Then I, like many, predicted a sweep after game 2. Toronto is a really good team when they're right. I'm assuming Jonas Valanciunas will be available to play. Cavs are already having major problems containing Bismack. JV, assuming he's not rusty, will be an even bigger problem. For those complaining about how awful this conference finals is/was, well, we have a series here. I thought one win was just kind of a fluke, like "Toronto has professional basketball players too," but I'm starting to wonder if Cleveland might actually blow this.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 24, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) haha, exactly Having to travel for work a lot, more often than not by myself, helped a bunch. I'd still rather spend time with a small number of close friends and family than big crowds, and still awkward when I don't know most of the people really well. I compare that to my dad who will strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. That's my mom. Sometimes I'm like damn ma, take it down a couple notches
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 24, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) I am usually really awkward when I first meet people. It takes a while for me to open up to people. I have to go to a wedding on Saturday where I won't know one person. Super excited about that. Are you my son? lol
  19. The difference with football is that when you watch it on TV, the broadcast is constantly showing you something. There's a play, then they show you the replay with an explanation of what happened, and then they show a shot of the crowd or the players on the sidelines while the commentators discuss a topic or a stat they put up on the screen. Baseball on the other hand has the center field camera on the pitcher's back and the batter for at least half the broadcast so people get the impression that there is less happening. When you go to live football games you really notice - there is a lot of standing around. Soccer and hockey are almost nonstop action, when they have breaks in action it's only for a few seconds.
  20. I am socially awkward, but I just stopped caring about it so it cancels out, if that makes sense? I guess I play it off well, people who know me online don't believe me when I say I'm an introvert, but in either case my personality is exactly the same.
  21. Trophies on the PlayStation don't quite feel the same as achievements, like I don't really get the same satisfaction of just adding to a pile of trophies as I do adding to an actual gamer score, I don't know why, maybe I'm just wired that way from getting a "score" from gaming so long. I also know this is kind of silly to even think about really and I don't know why I care about it so much. That said, I'm probably gonna get a platinum trophy on Fallout 4, and the trophy system is perfect for that kind of game. Often what prevents me from getting plats is dumb multiplayer achievements that I don't care about, or there will be 2-3 challenges that are just too hard to bother with (like the VR challenges in Arkham Knight).
  22. Daily Caller might be the single worst political website on the internet that isn't an overt white supremacist site. Breitbart really toes that line, though. There's some hack left-wing sites out there, but none that are really the equivalent of those. Daily Caller is just effing horrendous.

    This Era

When I was growing up watching Frank Thomas I didn't actually even realize he was as good as he was. I just kind of figured every other team had a guy like that.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Sale had an interesting quote after the game: "I'm not throwing as many anger pitches or hate pitches. And rely on my defense. That's the key to all of this. That's the master plan." http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...-and-chris-sale They mentioned this during the broadcast. Instead of getting upset and trying to over-compensate for a bad pitch he just shakes it off and throws the next pitch.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2016 -> 12:27 AM) http://www.basketball-reference.com/playof...-vs-pacers.html LOL I was in Iraq this year and never actually saw those games. Holy s***. The most depressing thing about this to me is the Bulls couldn't even qualify for this s***-show.
