I couldn't imagine what it'd be like passing a kidney stone. How does that not feel like pissing out a small jagged marble?

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Do you remember when people dressed up when they traveled by plane? We put on our Sunday best. Nowadays, the girl next to you is in her slippers, pajama bottoms, t shirt, no make up and hair in a knot. I never sit next to women my age or within 10 years of me, I always seem to get stuck next to a dude.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) yeah, the dude is a monster. This draft looks like a winner if Chris Williams plays and performs well within the next couple weeks. I wasn't posting on talkbears or anything at the time, but I don't recall anybody not liking the Harrison pick. Personally I liked seeing Angelo go for it and just take the best player for once, he's been too conservative in the draft at times and he has a terrible poker face. The Forte pick was telegraphed all the way, but it doesn't matter, because at this point it looks like whatever they saw in him is correct. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) I was one of the few who loved the Harrison pick. Thanks for proving me right, Marcus! BTW- the Lions are an awful football team. Besides character issues, what wasn't to like about the Harrison pick? First round talent there. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 02:47 AM) I'm sure they were planning to go with a Keating 5 attack no matter what, just like the Ayers attacks were inevitable. The closer election day gets the more accusations will fly. I wouldn't be surprised to see a big late 'scandal' to break, maybe something unexpected. I don't think so, I mean, his poll advantage is pretty significant right now, and we're in landslide territory right now in the electoral count. People only do stuff like that when they're losing. Hence, McCain saying at the beginning he'd never resort to character assassination and whatnot, but now he's indifferent.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 12:27 AM) PS: Depending on how this plays out tomorrow and Tuesday, the debate on Tuesday could be a hell of a lot of fun to watch. I won't find it fun at all, I find this kind of politics nauseating. Makes me want to start slapping random people.

I just ordered a new T-mobile G1 and it has a built-in GPS in it. I won't get it for about a month though.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 02:14 AM) Can I say it sucks that something similar to that has happened to me as well? I feel like slightly less of a dumbass. My head still hurts though

So just now I go kind of jogging down my stairs with a bottle of wine, all excited to sit down... I hop down the last 3 stairs but didn't realize I jumped a couple inches too high and I hit my head on the top of the door frame. I fall flat on my f***ing ass and I end up sitting there for about 10 seconds stunned like omg WTF just happened?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) Yea pretty much. The idea was that lending needed to be fair and that not being a homeowner only added to poverty. Which is a decent assessment, but there needs to be limits and regulation on the amount of money a high risk consumer can get; especially considering that these loans are going to be at least implicitly backed by tax payers. The housing bubble really pushed things over the edge because people were buying homes at a very high price which weren't in reality worth that much. Not only did their investment go down (which it had to as they purchased during a peak) but they couldn't afford to pay the payments or sell the home for anywhere near what they paid for it. The Democrats were very defensive of this program and did want certain limits, as they felt that would not be fair and that their programs were under attack. All the fees the lenders get at the start of a loan made these companies appear to be making money, when in reality they were taking on a lot of bad investments. Oh, I also remember GW Bush sighting the increase of home ownership as a good thing, when it actually might not have been. I bought my house about a year and a half ago, right at about the peak of the bubble. No way in hell would I be able to qualify for that loan today, or at any other time for that matter and I'm really not sure how they did it. Just looking at the salary they used to calculate it since my wife had bad credit and I didn't factor in her income, to give me 6.25% or whatever interest rate it was at 100% financing. Well, technically I could've used the VA loan which would've made this post moot but that's a long story, I ended up using convential financing... my loan would've qualified as a high risk loan, I'm sure. Debt to income ratio was probably all out of whack. Although, at the same time, I'm kind of an anomaly because I was due to get out of the Army within a few months and my income skyrocketed after I got out, and I knew that was going to happen, so it wasn't like I was taking on a risk I couldn't handle. The bank didn't know that though (well I told them, but it doesn't count unless you actually HAVE the job), and they were taking on a risk. So, bottom line for me: I'm plenty capable of handling my mortgage payments, but thanks to the bubble bursting out from underneath me my house is worth $15-20k less than what I paid for it right now, not including the improvements I've done since I've been here.
-
Well the root of the whole thing got its start with the Democrats putting pressure on the lenders to give loans to lower income families to get minorities in houses. It just kind of spiraled downward from there when the banks figured out they could make money on this. There are other people who f***ed it up too though.

I've used thousands of dollars of per diem, and never once have I reported it as income, or even thought to.

I heard myself actually saying "we didn't have the internet back then..." a couple of months ago. Also I was telling a guy that just graduated high school about the Jordan dynasty, and how sweet it was to watch Frank Thomas as opposed to just popping your eyes out at his stats. None of that really even seems like that long ago to me, but I guess it is. I'm only 26 btw. Anyone else here tend to use the Berlin Wall/end of the Cold War as a point of reference?

QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) Uribe not worth his weight. Not that that's sayin much. Actually, that's a pretty high standard to meet. If his average was his weight he'd be Ted Williams.

Damn how many times has Uribe led off an inning today? This is at least the 3rd time.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) You know frankly, I'm getting really sick of the villification of the liberals on this board as a defense mechanism for some of the conservatives here. While kap has been great and ss2k5 has been awesome especially with his insight on financial issues, I'm getting sick and tired of *some* posters instead of debating a point, just calling the other posters Obama flaks and that's the new argument. Conservative posters here have strong opinions too, yet I don't see liberal posters ever hiding behind "oh you're just a republican sheep this is ridiculous your points are invalid because you're blind" type posts EVER. So why not just stick to the discussions at hand, as a whole, considering this is a baseball message board discussing politics, this stays pretty high minded and cordial. So how about just discussing the players in the race and not attacking the posters? Great post, bmags.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) Look at the polls of the board 19-10 Obama, 26-8 Biden. That's some pretty awful logic, IMO. I voted "tie" for the first debate and "Biden" for the second one. Expectations played zero factor in how I voted or else I would've said Palin won.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) That's today. What'll happen next week? Or the week after? Am I overlooking the graph that goes up and down for both candidates over time? Obama hasn't really lost his electoral lead since the general election started. It dipped into "toss-up" territory for about a week after the GOP convention but his margin has about doubled in the last couple of weeks.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) Lol, I love how you post stats that show for the last 3 months Obama's lead in overall polls has stayed consistent (anywhere from 4-7%) and the electoral map has stayed roughly the same (except for the bump for mccain after the RNC). I see nothing in those first to links that show Obama "seperating" from McCain. If the national poll approaches double digits, at that point you're talking about ridiculous Reagan over Mondale type pwnage. Anything over 5% is a relatively easy victory. Day to day fluctuations in national polls are just there for trends, nothing more.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) In several other places I visit, the insane, illogical rhetoric is over the top. This is one of the few bastions of usually level-headed discussion. There are only a handful of places I'll go where people of different political views go back and forth to discuss politics, and even then, there are people that go overboard. Whenever I see a response like that (for example if I say something positive and someone responds to me with an irrelevant tangent about Jeremiah Wright) I just ignore it. It's much easier that way.
