  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Ah the completely overbroad comeback. At least I was limiting it to this specific issue. I'm just saying that liberals somehow think the two are consistent: 1) Obama won the first debate because he put together two complete sentences regarding international policy. 2) Palin lost big time even though she was supposed to come out drooling and wetting herself for 1.5 hours but didn't. I'm not being overbroad. Look at what you're doing here. You are saying AHB is "liberals." There is no way to reply to that without making another sweeping generalization.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) I don't see posts in here saying any of those things. Palin isn't assertive anyway - she asserts nothing. The only one of those three things I've seen brought up here is McCain's age. And MOST of us aren't saying its an issue of his ability to lead - its his ability to stay alive. And that is a real issue to consider. Not a dealbreaker IMO, but, at his age, it does amplify the importantance of his VP candidate, who is just terrible. In here, compared to many other places, nobody is going over the top with anything. Maybe a little overexcited at times, but that's to be expected. Elsewhere, and you can easily apply this to supporters of ANY candidate, people are stupid, and pop off at the mouth.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) Why is it that the liberal world can't be consistent? For basically the same exact reason the "conservative world" can't be consistent.
  4. QUOTE (sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) I love how it's ok to be sexist, bigoted, and ageist if it's not your candidate. What?
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) After watching the debate last week and the debate last night, I am confident now, more than ever, that Barack Obama is the next president of the united states. He torched McCain last week, and while Palin "held her own", she did nothing to reverse McCain's downward spiral. She may have stabilized it, but in no way turned it around. I don't think Obama torched McCain.
  6. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) No, I honestly really dont Edit: However, I am much more comfortable with McCain over Obama. I know that wasnt the question, I just wanted to clarify. That's a 100% reasonable stance to have and needs no justification btw.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) A post in the other thread reminded me -- did anyone else catch Biden's heavy sigh when she resorted back to some completely off-topic energy response about half way through? You're right, holy s***... I thought that was the sound of one of my cats hissing at the other again, but it didn't sound right.
  8. I just think it's funny that she beat Biden over the head for bringing up recent history, but she started talking about Reagan.
  9. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) I guess I just personally thought McCain did better than Obama because I agree with more of his ideas than Obamas and he didnt do anything to make me even consider voting for him, which goes both ways I realize. These debates all hinge on personal expectations people set and if each candidate exceeds them or not. For the most part I can honestly say, each has done a little better than I thought they would but none have done enough to drastically change my opinion. Its easy for me to say already being aligned with a party, I guess its how the independents view them. (AHB's polls from CNN dont count) If someone is a Republican, and aligns themselves with the views the candidate states in the debate, it's really no surprise they'd think that candidate won, and I would wonder why they would think anything else.
  10. I was going to reply but I just don't feel like having this conversation again.
  11. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:55 AM) I personally dont think Palin won the debate. However, I dont think Obama won his debate either, but since he was only supposed to hold his own pretty much everyone on here called it a win for him. Going by those standards you could say Palin won too because Bidens performance didnt wow anybody similar to how McCains didnt. What bothered me about Palin last night is she never called out Biden on his BS. He was at the point where he was making things up to prove points and she didnt know the facts to question it. Like when they talked about cutting funds for troops and Biden said McCain voted the same way Obama did, which isnt true. I wish the debate was less about defending the Presidential candidates voting history and more about what they bring to the table. I think everyone who cares about politics enough to watch the debate probably had a pretty close idea of what each candidate was going to say on their answers just because we have heard all the arguments a million times. I thought most people on here said the Obama-McCain debate was a draw. Obama to Palin isn't really comparable because his knowledge is much deeper than hers, "experience" aside, and it wasn't that "held his own" (read: managed to not be a flaming moron) so much as he stayed with McCain stride for stride on McCain's strong points for the most part. Obama and McCain were equal in that debate, it wasn't about expectations, so it was a draw. Just my opinion, and I thought that was the majority opinion here too. What Biden said about the Senate voting wasn't BS, he was making a point. He was saying that if you want to accuse Obama of "voting against funding the troops" (the fact that this keeps getting brought up by the McCain camp is an insult to my intelligence, btw), then if you use that same standard, McCain did the same thing, for a different reason. The BS about dissecting people's voting records is f***ing retarded, IMO. People do it all the time. They make a bill, part 1 says "we will provide funding to kindergartners" and part 2 says "also there will be mandatory castrations for all black people." So when somebody votes against it, their opponent comes out and says "see they hate kindergartners WTF!"
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) I agree, Palin won the 'vs expectations' game here. But I'm also pretty sure that anyone on this board could have beaten those expectations. If the question was "who beat the spread" as opposed to who actually won, then yeah, Palin won by a lot. But objectively speaking, I think Biden won hands down, and I can't think of a single reason why I should believe otherwise. Biden was pretty boring, but nagivated the waters pretty easily - Palin just talked in circles so she didn't have to stray from her comfort zones, winked, and said "maverick" a lot.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:31 AM) The Couric interview set her expectations slightly above "drooling on herself when asked a difficult question." Seriously... I mean I know this sounds like an exaggeration, and it is, but not by much. CNN's poll says 84% of people thought she exceeded expectations... that tells you how low they were.
  14. 6 people voted for Palin - I'd like to know why, honestly. Besides exceeding expectations, avoiding falling on her face, and generally redeeming herself, I can't think of any reason why that's a win. I won't give her bonus points for meeting lowered expectations though.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) of course lost fan brings up friday...jk bud. I quote the hell out of that movie.
  16. Anybody remember the line from Friday where Ice Cube's character (Craig) says something to Chris Tucker's character (Smokey) about something Smokey did a week ago, and Smokey is caught off guard and he says "man why you bringing up old s***?" That's what came to mind when Palin started rebuking Biden on recent history.
  17. I'm going to sound like I'm joking here, but I think the fact that she did not come across as mildly retarded is a mini-win for Palin.
  18. Palin didn't embarass herself like in the Couric interview, although that's about as low a standard as you can possibly get. She showed herself to not be a complete moron, but it's clear her depth of knowledge is very, very limited, and she was recycling talking points as fast as she could. Eventually, she ran out of things to say.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) Can you honestly say that in any point in your life you gave two s***s about the VP before this? She shouldn't be expected to know everything. She hasn't had to deal with Washington politics all her life like Joe and John, and hasn't been running for president for 4 years like Obama. If you don't see improvement between now and election, then you can worry. And stop with the one heartbeat s***. McCain isn't dying, even the actuatries say he will make it thru the first term. A second term would be a bit touchier, but he isn't running for a second term, he is running for a first. Pelosi is 2 heartbeats away. I think I would f***ing move if she was ever in charge as the country would be totally f***ed. Actually for Pelosi to take over both hearts would have to stop at the same time... otherwise, as soon as the VP takes over, they pick a new VP right away.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) This is why I love baseball; who would have thunk Wise would pound a two strike pitch for a 3 run homer when mired in a horrific slump?? And then with two out and pitcher on ropes with man on second Jimmy weakly taps out. Let's enjoy this playoff baseball game. Hang in there, Sox. beat these young bums. They're certainly young, but they're not bums.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Wise up, might as well just move ahead to the next inning. pwned like a little b****.
  22. Wise up, might as well just move ahead to the next inning.
  23. All of those seem like pretty fair questions to me
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) And yet you single him out for your wrath. I'm with him here. f*** both of them for this.
