QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) KW will acquire a real leadoff hitter this offseason. Hopefully Nick Swisher singlehandedly killed the notion of a "prototypical" leadoff hitter being unnecessary.

Sen. Shelby said he'd rather there be no plan if it isn't a good plan. I tend to agree.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) I think the electoral college tally still favors Obama pretty strongly. I don't see McCain snagging Michigan or Penn. But even the state by state polls seem to be fairly turbulent. I think there's still a lot of voters who could be convinced to vote either Obama or McCain. Yeah... what the national polls do tell us is that the election is still pretty volatile and unsettled. However, this makes me wonder though, it seems like there is about 15% of the population that changes their minds every 2 weeks just to f*** with the polls.

Just make sure it's done cleanly and properly. I can't wait for Blagojevich to go to prison.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) What exactly does "Suspending one's campaign" entail? Being deliberately melodramatic.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) and technically, they really mean nothing. Right. What DukeNukeEm posted in the Dem thread with all the state polls is a lot closer to what the election looks like.

Yeah I was about to post that. National polls are so damn finicky.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Those are complete sentences. That'd be a start. The equivalent exchange from Obama would be something like: COURIC: Senator Obama, why do you feel the alliance with NATO is still relevant today? OBAMA: Well, you see, what our alliance with these European countries ultimately comes down to is our shared values as societies, and our long tradition of democracy. So this is why it's important to protect our civil liberties and ensure everyone has access to health care. A half-assed non-answer to a softball question.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) That's like a remedial POLI course answer, and it'd get an F. Every answer I have seen her give has been either an attack on "my opponent" or a non-related, ultra-basic-talking-points rambling. She rarely comes close to ever actually answering anything. Here I could see her giving this as an actual answer to a hypothetical question: Q: Governor Palin, what would you do to counter the emergence of China as a major world power? A: America will remain the most powerful nation on earth, but everything starts with the American economy. In order to ensure that it remains strong and competitive, we must make sure to give hard-working Americans tax breaks, and open drilling in ANWR.

Why is she complaining about being mocked? When I think of things she's talked about what comes to mind is a.) her mocking Obama constantly and almost immediately and b.) her repeating the "bridge to nowhere" thing. She shouldn't be surprised that people are going to do it to her. Also have you ever noticed when she talks about Obama she never calls him by name, she calls him "my opponent"? He's not your opponent Gov. Palin, you're not running against him - lest I need to repeat the conservative apologists' talking points defending the argument that the "experience" argument is now null and void.

No speakers at work. Summary please?

Actually, watching the Sox choke doesn't bother me at all - well, it does, but not to the point of not wanting to watch. You know what bothers me, and was the reason I turned off the game in the 4th in game 1 and in the 1st in game 2? Hawk. It was either turn it off, mute it, or listen to the Twins announcers (I have mlb.tv). Hawk is unbearable to listen to during Twins games, so I just follow the game on Gamecast while I do something else.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) We adapt. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) I would say that this is more Bill Clinton's behavior rather than Hillary. Hillary has actually been quite the good soldier. I concur, and I've been a pretty big Hillary hater for a while to boot. Even if she's being phony and talking through clenched teeth, she's giving at least the impression that she's completely in the tank for Obama.

If I was that rich and somebody called me out for wearing expensive clothes, I would just be like "damn right, I'm rich, b****!"

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) Will the government bail me out of my student loans? You're just a little f***up, so you wouldn't qualify.

Haha. I'm going to quit making payments on my car and see if my bank will just pay my house off instead so I can get a break and make my payments easier.

QUOTE (palehose23 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 05:01 AM) Hating Ozzie Guillen is dumb. You can disagree with his moves but he has managed his ass off this year and never gets his just due. I agree with you taking out Jermaine Dead but Ozzie is not to blame for this teams problems he has been the Manager of the Year IMHO Meh. Ozzie's "genius" decisions are mostly unwise or just plain crazy-ass moves that he got lucky on. He would do something like allow Boone Logan to pitch to Miguel Cabrera with first base open and 2 outs, and then Boone somehow strikes him out on 3 pitches. (Not a real example obviously but if he did that I honestly wouldn't be surprised.) Then other times these things backfire spectacularly but he seems to get a pass from most Sox fans because they still win more than they lose.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelst...mccain-got-invo It may or may not have been a stunt, but given all the circumstances around it it certainly seems to have been handled like one. Then again... one month before the election, everything either of them does is going to be viewed that way.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) Interesting. If that is true, that he does want a McCain victory, he's risking his position as the de facto soul of the party. Nothing there indicated to me that he actually wants McCain to win. I don't really know how someone could draw that conclusion from that. However, he has been sending subtle messages to the Obama campaign.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) ... I'd hate to meet his non fans. Haha. I'm a big Mark Bradley apologist, but the dude scored like an 8 on his Wonderlic. That's ridiculously bad... I mean, he's lucky he didn't drool on his answer sheet and blur out some of the answers b/c that would've lowered his score any more.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:16 AM) There is always this too. Just because she gives a 101 answer, doesn't mean she doesn't know it on a 401 level. You risk alienating a lot more people the more detail you get into. Its the same reason Obama stayed vague for the first year of his campaign, and ran for President after two years in Congress instead of 6. The less that other party has to pick apart of your record, the better. Yeah, I started to say something similar to this a few posts back. It sounds like she's being really careful and keeping everything as basic as possible. That works fine for the right-leaning types who like her and all, but eventually she's going to have to get into more detail, and people will start noticing. Obama at least would give little flashes of knowledge early in his campaign before he rolled himself out completely, I don't think I've ever heard Palin say anything substantive yet besides her very basic stump speeches.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) Not sure if this was already mentioned in here: Maybe the main objective in all of this is to stall for Palin and give her more time to learn on the job. This is becoming a joke. Was it you that said something about Palinbot 3000 needing more time to finish the download of Neoconservative software v 2.0? I lol'd at that while I was at work.
