  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) So, just to change gears a bit, who else has a problem with the fact that governor Palin's emails being posted online is a bad thing but the government reading all my emails is a good thing and worthy of the support of both of our presidential candidates? Let me chime in here since I'm in somewhat of a position to know. The government, well more specifically, intelligence agencies, don't arbitrarily read your e-mails... ever. First off it is a waste of time and valuable resources to be coming through a bunch of random innocent people's e-mails/listening to their phone calls/other forms of communication. Secondly it's a flagrant violation of intelligence oversight laws. The only way this can happen legitimately is if there was suspicion you were working with a foreign intelligence agency or were communicating with international terrorists. A long time ago, like during the Nixon administration, there wasn't anything protecting the government from overstepping its bounds, but there is now, and there's a lot more institutionalized protection now. Mistakes happen sometimes, but they are identified and corrected too. The other aspect to this is the police and the FBI, I'm sure you already know how that works though. The same general rules apply.
  2. I've seen him play in person several times but for some reason the only at-bat I can remember was him hitting into a DP against the Yankees around 1993 or so.
  3. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) Im assuming something like "Are you out of your f***ing mind"
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) I was just going to adopt it. How about... PCBSNRTBVPP? I'm going ot take a stab at this: Politically Correct But Still Not Ready To Be Vice President Palin?
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Obama is getting a nice bounce from the bad news on the economy right now IMO. Sounds a bit brutal, but bad news for the economy is good news for Obama. It's the same as saying terrorism helps Republicans. It's harsh sounding and it's not really something to bring up casually as a candidate but it's true.
  6. In general I'm a bigger football fan than a baseball fan, but at this time of year my interest in the baseball season tends to wane if the Sox aren't competitive in September. This year I'm paying more attention than usual because the Sox are in first late in the season, and I had low expectations of the Bears. In 2006, the Sox fell flat and didn't look to be going anywhere by this point, and the Bears came out firing on all cylinders looking like the best team in the NFL, so I barely noticed the Sox except for the occasional score check.
  7. Last year my kid wore a devil costume for Halloween and it was really cute. He had just turned 1 (his birthday is the 29th, he is a Halloween baby). But my wife took it off of him as soon as she came home, before I could take pictures. Then she acted all surprised that I WTFed.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Using something he did as a reason? That's pretty two faced. How so? Am I being two faced because I don't like to hang around certain types of people even though years ago I made some of the same mistakes they did? Seems like growing up to me.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) The same Barack Obama who admitted to expirementing with Cocaine and Marijuana is turning down Lohan because of her wild ways? Wow. Lindsay Lohan is still doing it.
  10. I've noticed that people like to attribute the actions/thoughts of 1 or 2 posters to an entire group of people. IMO that's a copout and it's a way to avoid having to think too hard/type a few extra words, and it comes across as condescending.
  11. QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) fixed that for ya.... LOL Haha. So true. I hate election years.
  12. All of that revolved around a hypothetical possibility, because at that point very few of us actually knew anything about her, and it seemed like bad news was just pouring out about her. Obviously, all that stopped after her convention speech. McCain supporters are absolutely in love with her now so it's all irrelevant.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) I think I said something along those lines. You're such a Demhead!
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) I don't think so? Hell I don't remember yesterday, let alone two weeks ago. I started looking through the thread to see but I don't have the willpower to do it.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) I dont think so, but i couldnt tell you who it was either. I remember, before the thread turned into a steaming pile of s***, that someone suggested the idea that McCain may not have done his homework, and that if that was true, the pick could blow up in his face. I thought that might've been kap but I don't remember.
  16. I don't really know if I have the stomach for another 2000 election.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Well, there was someone who pretty much predicted she would resign after something came out a couple weeks back. I think he was referencing that. I think that was kapkomet wasn't it?
  18. So what you're really saying is, we should change the title of President to Quarterback? Either Barack Obama or John McCain will be inauguarated as the 43rd Quarterback of the United States in January 2009.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) I've definitely seen the over-the-top Obama love, as well as the over-the-top Obama hate. They are both here in spades. Neither is as bad here as it is elsewhere, e.g. www.politico.com, which is relatively civil compared to a lot of other places.
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) Finding it dispicable is the politically correct stance. Ramp it up ten fold if it was Obama. No, I don't believe I'm paranoid not do I believe my statement is unfounded. Have you been reading the over the top Obama love in this forum for months? And believe me, I toned down the question. Over the top is mild compared to what I wanted to say. The reason you haven't seen much of a reaction out of me is because I don't like all the arbitrary negative attention Palin is getting, and I've left it alone. It's not that I don't care, or don't think it's wrong because I don't like Palin (believe me I don't), I just don't want to contribute to the noise until/unless I find out there is something worthy of being noisy about. Also the same reason I haven't commented too much on the trooper firing ordeal.
  21. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Also if you want to use your email for campaigning, you can't use your government email to do so. You also can't use it to distribute e-mails about any political candidate if you're a supporter who doesn't work for the campaign.
  22. Yeah, it's weird. The demographics of the county I live in (middle class, high % of blacks) also point to being Democratic like the rest of the state. Then again if you go to the city, it's hard to find ANYONE who isn't voting for Obama.
  23. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) That being said, it is a pretty s***ty and dishonest ad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't McCain release the same kind of ad about Obama not too long ago on the same subject? By the way, these ads never actually get played, they just get passed to the media so they can get free coverage while the pundits argue over them.
