  1. Culpepper didn't seem like the same quarterback to me.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Again, this is totally different. No one is suggesting the any news source is silenced. I understand that many Democrats get very angry and come out with wild accusations any time a conservative critiques the media, but it really is an overreaction. We are fully entitled to have any opinion we choose of the media. I don't want a government run media. I don't want pro-Democrat news banned. I also do not want hysterical accusations such as this bogus 'McCarthyism' cries or 'You want the Soviet Union style news!' directed towards me. It is completely false and totally out of line. It's the typical attack of comparing anyone who disagrees with you with some sort of great wrong perpetrated in the past. The funny thing is there is no fricking way I would want any speech silenced. None of anything I said is necessarily directed at you. Although, obviously, I don't agree with you on the extent of bias in the media and the reasons for it, and I question some of the things you consider bias. I mean, some of the things I hear used as examples of bias are pretty absurd.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) My farts generally dont smell. And for this team and what we are trying to do, Orton is a better fit because of his reads, height, and decision making ability. Rex is a mental midget who really sucks at ball control. I'm fine with Orton playing for now for no other reason than the fact that the spinning of the QB carousel makes me physically ill... but that doesn't mean I have to like it. He is ok as a one, maybe two-year stopgap. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping Hanie turns out to be something (which does not absolve Angelo of the responsibility of looking for another QB, putting all eggs in one basket is the mistake he made with Rex)
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Apparently you didnt read my post. He's better than Rex, that just means he isnt football retarded. And pointing to one horribly called play doesnt prove that his line calls arent good. He was changing protection schemes throughout the game, and did it quite well. He checks down and makes decisions quickly. With a running game, thats all we really need, although it would be nice to have a QB that could stretch the field deep with touch. My point is that the difference between them is nil, so it doesn't matter which one of them is "better." That's like saying it doesn't smell as bad when someone farts as opposed to when they take a dump. The team doesn't even really need a QB that could stretch the field, although that'd be nice... just a QB that can actually complete a 10 yard pass without having a rabbit's foot shoved up his ass with the planets in alignment while standing on a four-leaf clover.
  5. lol, Joe Biden is unintentionally hilarious. He does this s*** on a daily basis.
  6. Was Roberts talking "we" as in, the media as an entity, or "we" as in Democrats?
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Maybe I think that people are more naive then dumb. I just feel that people do way to may things because it is popular/chic as oppossed to the reality of the situation and are to lazy to really look into wheather the choice is in their best interest. I can get with that. I just wasn't sure I understood your logic. Ever since I was a teenager I've never been too impressed with the collective intelligence level of the public. Having public service jobs started me thinking that. There's a lot of other reasons for that though.
  8. I think Tex's McCarthyism comparison was good, actually. The more I thought about it the more it made sense. Both of them took a truth (in this case, the Communist threat and liberal bias) and hysterically exaggerate them to the point where people think it's much bigger than it really is, and incorrect claims and accusations go unchallenged, and are used as a rallying cry.
  9. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) I said dumber not stupid or ignorant. Texting while driving is dumb see the thread talking about dead people. Liking Sarah Palin simply because she is cool/different is dumb she could be running the country. Liking Obama for the same reason is dumb for the same rest. Signing a mortgage without understanding the full parameters/long term affect is dumb. Texting while driving and making financial mistakes, I'm not sure what that has to do with anything here, but I wasn't referring to that. You're making a pretty broad assertion here (although you clarified it in this post, and you're not saying that anymore) that anybody that likes Obama or Palin is dumb, and that they do so because the media tells them to think that way. I don't see how this election is any different than any other recent election. Why don't people get credit for coming to their own conclusions anymore just because we factor in popularity?
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) You CAN negotiate without reaching a deal. And it certainly seems like he WAS trying to reach a deal. Again, just going by what was written. He seemed like he was trying to convince him to do something that he favored, and was told no. IS that now just called 'asking'? And there IS something wrong with it, if that person has a different message than the one of his government. And like it or not, Bush's message is the 'official' one for now. Obama's a part of the government too, and he is allowed to do that (dissent is allowed within our government, this isn't like the Soviet Union where everybody has to be in line with the official government position). I mean, it'd be different if he was the governor of Illinois and not a US Senator. He stated before he left that he was doing that in his official capacity, not as a presidential candidate.
  11. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) It would mean he grabbed a page out of Reagan's playbook. Very sad indeed. I'm pretty sure the Iranians hung on to the hostages longer mostly to insult Carter for trying to rescue them and that Reagan didn't play that much of a role. Although I admittedly haven't done all my research here either.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) You are missing a key point in all this. WHY is Obama negotiating with a foreign leader? That is really above his pay grade, at least for now. Isn't that against the law? I thik the Logan Act prohibits unauthorized individuals from negotiating with foreign governments. He's not really negotiating (though the author tried his best to make it seem like he did), he didn't reach any deal. There is nothing wrong with a US Senator traveling abroad and having talks with foreign leaders though. Especially considering Congress wants in on this (and rightly so).
  13. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) This election falls right into line with the economy of this country and to me it feels like the entire ability of America to think for themself is non-existant. Sarah Palin blind following. She may be worth the VP role but let me see it other than to blindly follow John McCain. Obama blind following. While I like him he really has not had to work really hard to get where he is comparativley speaking. The mortgage crunch with homebuyers not really understanding what they are getting into with the biggest investment they will make in most cases. Text messaging while driving, that's a great idea. The blind following of the chicago cubs. hollywood "news" being treated as real and noteworthy. It just seems to me that America is becoming dumber and dumber as the media becomes more and more inept at communicating true unbiased information. Why is it that people have to be automatically stupid/ignorant if they like something that's popular?
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) I realize that but the message seems like he's a bit out of touch. The average American isn't an economist. I don't disagree, but he's not really coming out of left field, either.
  15. Also, I'm slightly amused by the fact that the Bush administration has eventually taken Obama's line on so many things lately.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) Isn't that the President in CIC? I know that Congress needs to approve treaties, but as for specific troop levels and movements, i think that is up to the President, not Congress. An agreement/treaty would have a direct effect on the next President's ability to decide troop levels. IMO they should be the ones deciding. Whether that is Obama or McCain. There has been enough mismanagement of this war as it is, I don't want to see more.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) I'm curious why McCain thinks that saying this over and over again is a good idea? Our economy hasn't looked this bad in decades. I think what he's trying to emphasize is that recessions are temporary and he's trying to say we aren't all f***ed.
  18. This article is written tabloid-style, but Jim said what I was thinking. Quite frankly, I don't care what the Bush administration wants at this point. And even if McCain wins, it still doesn't change the fact that Congress actually should be involved - that's in the Constitution. But in any case, the next president should be able to have their own leverage, not locked into what Bush decided for them.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Orton really has zero touch on his deep ball, and if he did the game would have been over. BUT, he is still better than Rex. Kyle checks down nicely, makes confident throws and line calls. He is a better QB. Please stop trying to make Orton out to be something he's not. We don't have any good quarterbacks on this roster, both of them suck but in different ways, and the net difference between the two is a wash. When it comes to strengths, Grossman definitely does what Orton can't, and vice versa, but that goes for weaknesses too. Orton is a career backup QB at this point barring any major improvement, and I wish this fanbase would be more honest about what he is. The fact is, we still should be looking for a new QB this offseason. By the way, as far as his line calls? He is the one who checked out of a run on that 3rd and 1 play in the 4th quarter.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Not that I care about the Flubs ... but wouldn't it be great? Sox-Flubs World Series? Make it happen baseball gods. It would be great only if the Cubs were to get swept. Otherwise it would get on my nerves.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) why is it that some of you are always here and never at the game? It would be a hell of a drive for me.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 11:15 PM) I don't think Boone has the stuff to learn anything from anybody. Maybe after 5 more years of minor league seasoning. Boone actually has some pretty nasty stuff. I don't know what his problem is.
  23. I'm afraid to start being a Wise fan. I've been bagging on him all season and been completely wrong about everything, and I don't want to change anything.
  24. Holy s***, Wise smoked the piss out of that ball.
  25. I think I better leave this game thread for tonight before someone organizes a mass suicide.
