You know why campaigns always turn negative? Always? It's actually kind of simple and it's really common sense, and should be for most people, but for some reason, quite often it's not. You have this: Candidate 1: True Positive, True Negative Candidate 2: True Positive, True Negative Candidate 1 wants to tell people things about himself that are positive. He doesn't normally want to focus on Candidate 2's positives except for the obligatory show of respect, and he wants to avoid discussing his own negatives if at all possible. The same thing applies to Candidate 2, and before long, one of them runs out of positive things to say about themselves and discusses their opponent, and they aren't going to say positive things (unless they are stupid). The other candidate has to respond in kind now. These campaigns get particularly ugly when you add False Positive and False Negative to the equation though.

I feel dumber after reading this entire argument about this "scandal," and bmags already summarized my feelings a few pages back. It's a perfectly normal, and in fact necessary practice for elected officials to use government dollars to travel, and travel to and from home in the course of official duties is legit. Unless she was being blatantly wasteful I don't see a problem here, and it doesn't appear she is. So there is nothing to see here. I have plenty of other reasons not to like Sarah Palin.

For some reason it feels like getting a 2.5 game lead over Minny takes the same effort as building an 8 game lead. And if we had an 8 game lead, it'd feel like a 2.5 game lead. This is exciting, but damn if it isn't a lot more relaxing to just go into September with a massive division lead.

So, there was much to-do about Tropical Storm Hanna going up the East Coast... that was really underwhelming. It just rained really hard for a while and left.

Thome really did jack the piss out of that thing. God damn, holy s***.
