QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) This is the only place I've ever found where most of the people are rational and can discuss politics without arguing. I'd come here for the political talk alone, but it's even better as a huge Sox fan that it's a Sox board obviously. We do too argue

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) This is the political equivlent of the sports team that picks up the really talented player with legal issues. It could work out incredibly well, or it could completely bomb, but it'll be fun either way. Right, like I was saying it could either be really smart (Randy Moss) or really dumb (Pacman Jones).

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) he doesn't have to play that card, the MSM does it for him. Unfortunately yes. I really hate that too.
-
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) The difference is....Obama doesn't play the "race" card in his campaign....McCain's campaign is his Military and POW experience. Obama doesn't do that himself (I can only think of one time he made a direct reference to it outside of his speech in Philly) but the talking heads on TV do it a lot.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) I just got to thinking as I was driving to work, how readily will McCain use the "dont attack her... she's a woman" line? We have seen over the last month that they have no shame in using his POW experience as shield on every possible political attack. How long until every attack on Palin is defended with a "dont attack the woman" kind of line? McCain has now set up a great political shield: Dont attack him, he's a POW. Dont attack her, she's a woman. That would backfire terribly and I think the GOP strategists are smarter than that (and also it would get pretty ugly because there immediately be fights about who is and isn't racist as well and it will all be complete nonsense). If she does not come across as strong and assertive then this is a complete waste of a pick and that would manifest itself in time.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) Palin is the ONLY one on either ticket that has any executive experience whatsoever, however minimal it may be. You're right about that. I wonder has there ever been a ticket where all 4 were legislators?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) They haven't. It's been overshadowed by other stuff, mainly the crazy spending that completely undermines that argument.
-
QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) Exactly why he is a VP canidate... Because he has well-established, strong foreign policy credentials, plus he is something of an alpha male, in contrast to Obama, which frees up Obama from having to get in political fistfights a bit.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) It is a gamble, but this a direct response to the people who think he isn't conservative enough. Weren't there any conservative, strong pro-life females in Congress that have been around for a while? I mean, she practically makes Obama look like an elder statesman.
-
QUOTE (mreye @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) The last time was an epic fail not because of Ferraro. It was an epic fail because Reagan was hugely popular. That was the main thing. But Ferraro did not help.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) How much experience does somebody really need to attend funerals for the next 4 years? There is a pretty realistic chance that McCain doesn't make it all 4 years. Not saying it is a guarantee to happen by any means, but that has to be considered.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Looking to solidify pissed off Hillary voters' support? Weakens the attacks on "experience," imo. I know she was picked for her pro-life credentials... the last time a female was selected as a token pick it was an epic fail. We will see how this plays out. It could either be a really smart move or a really dumb one.

I heard she was a former beauty pageant contestant or something. Not bad.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) I don't see this as a winning combination. What will she even talk about in the debates? Caribou? How will she look in a debate against Joe Biden? Not necessarily a bad choice, but damn, this is a pretty big risk.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) If you are married, I wouldn't suggest going without taking extreme precautions before and during the trip. She looks like a lot of fun, and like somebody who could get a married man into a lot of trouble. Nah just kidding. You can be just friends with anybody as long as both sides know the deal, and I'm sure that's the case here. Have a good time! I have a buddy of mine going with who is so game-challenged that he has effectively (but unintentionally) cock-blocked me in the past, and plus he is a little fruity. I think that is enough protection from any misdeeds, even if I tried, he would f*** it up for me. In all seriousness though she knows me better than that and she wouldn't mess with me knowing I'm married. I think she likes my wife though. Too bad I only have enough money for me to go.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) I actually just posted an article in the GOP thread that kind of adressed that... yes he mentioned it, but then he also talked about someone else being responsible, which to me made no sense. But it did actually give me an idea for a separate thread... I think his general theme there was something along the lines of "people first, America is people" but then he transitioned into the responsibilities of leadership. But his general point was that even despite that, people working together can do more than the government ever can, although he didn't say that exactly.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:51 AM) I would love to see ANY specifics from McCain on anything. The "Don't vote for Obama" routine is getting a bit old. How about a reason to "vote for me"? He's been getting better about that lately.

I have to start saving money... I think I'm gonna end up blowing a LOT of cash in support of the Japanese economy. I'll try not to but i know I will. Then I'll have to save money cuz I forgot I was also going to Croatia later next year for a family trip/reunion/get-back-to-roots thing (lol, how many black people go to Croatia to get back to their roots?)

It's funny to me that now I'm the same age as young baseball players seeing their first MLB action or the guys who get called up later than others. I'm a few months older than Quentin, and me and Anderson are about a month apart. Until recently baseball players were always older than me. I'm already a few years older than NFL rookies, since they are 21 or 22. lol. I'm an adult. Actually this kind of sucks. Is it possible to stay at this age indefinitely?

Fan ejected from Yankee Stadium for trying to leave during 7th inning

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) The "Star Spangled Banner" is actually an old "drinking song" in a time of war. The melody is, not the lyrics though. I was watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics and I saw them singing God Save the Queen, and I realized I'd never heard it before, but if I had I would've known that the melody of "My Country 'tis of Thee" comes straight from the British national anthem. -

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) Personally, I think "America, the Beautiful" should be the national anthem. "The Star Spangled Banner" while being inspirational in it's own way, is still about about war when it comes down to it. "God Bless America", which I have personally have no problem with, still has the religous connotations to it. "America, the Beautiful" has nothing controvesial within its lyrics and highlights some of the finer points about this great land of ours. However, this person should not have been escorted out of the Stadium. That's bulls***. I'm a stubborn traditionalist and personally would never want to change the national anthem, although I never considered the fact that is basically a song about war, and off the top of my head I can't think of any other country that makes direct references to war in their national anthem (although their could be). The old Soviet national anthem used to before they changed the lyrics to be more about the motherland (the newer one sounds a lot like America the Beautiful actually). Also I don't have a problem with God Bless America, or religious references for that matter, for me it's just the fact that it's simply not the national anthem. -
QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 03:05 AM) That's completely ludacris. Ludacris is a rapper. Ludicrous means ridiculous.

Chad Johnson Officially Changes Name

It should actually be Ochenta y Cinco unless he literally means his name to be Eight Five -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Hmph. Interesting. Quite a bit more about Senator McCain in there than I thought there would be. There were a couple lines in there that actually felt fairly personal, in particular the hit at McCain's questioning his patriotism. All of those things he said were responses to attacking points against him. I thought the best one was his "It's not about me, it's about you" line.
