QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) I'm not gonna lie, Chelsea looks hot as hell. Too bad we know what she will look like when she gets older. Yeah, she was funny-looking when she was younger but now she's pretty sexy.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Well, let me start by saying most people don't care about the statistics when their eyes tell them the opposite. Secondly, in regards to the bold part, I've seen almost 100% of the innings this year. And no, no he does not really "make all the plays." He's got to have at least 5 more errors than he has been given in the stat sheet but somehow he isn't credited with those.

QUOTE (sox1844 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) I want to know why people think he's so pompous? Or that he doesn't want to play here? Because a winner like Joe Cowley said so? It's pretty easy to observe in his lackadaisical body language.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) It's kind of frightening that of our starters he's 5th in batting avg. I'm not going to talk up his offense a ton, but we at least have to appreciate that he's a leadoff hitter on THIS team. Without him up there we would be even more station-to-station than we already are. He is okay on offense. But if you look at the whole package he is not significantly better than Uribe (when Uribe is not in uber-suck mode).
-
He is half-assed, and an overrated defender, nothing near what I thought he was with the Red Sox and Angels. There were a couple of times when he was hot that I started warming up to him, but he is pretty lackluster overall. He's an above average SS, that's all though.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:03 PM) Would I want a manager who takes fan's suggestions the manager of the White Sox? Of course not. Its just fun that a MLB manager actually posts his email address AND answers some of them!! While I don't love Jeff Cox as a 3B coach, I was being a little extreme in saying that he should be fired. Like Rick Morrissey, it was more of a form of entertainment than anything... As a side note, I would encourage Jerry Angelo to reveal his email address. I think Bears nation could build a better offense through the draft than he has so far in his seven years at the helm!!! Seriously... a couple of moves he needed to make regarding the OL, if he had done what myself and many others were thinking, and the Bears are in good shape on offense this year. And it would've been totally in line with his salary cap plan. It absolutely blows my mind that a NFL GM seems completely oblivious to things that the smart fans see clear as day.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) I wonder if that's the first time Toby has scored from 1st I wonder if that's the first time Toby has scored from 2nd It was hilarious watching him chug his fat ass around the bases.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Camden yards looks empty. Shame, it looks like a nice place. Anyone ever been there? I was there yesterday, this year I've been about 6 times. It really is a nice park. On the inside, probably better than the Cell. The concessions of the Cell blow it away though.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) 9th hit in 87 plate appearances. I was exaggerating but apparently not by much.

Could you imagine how much of a pain in the ass Jerry Owens would be if he was a Twin?

Kyle Orton To Start The Season For Da Bears
lostfan replied to SoCalSouthSider59's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) Neckbeard...hot? OK. As for Orton being the starter now...completely the right call IMO. I thought he looked like a new man out there last week now that he knows "he's the man". I'd be more concerned about the offensive line and Ron Turner's complete ineptness than the QB position. Again, this has to do with the fact that SF brought close to zero pass rush and has relatively little to do with Orton himself aside from the fact that he proves he isn't completely inept. -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) Then that would be called "The Best Player Award". Most valuable implies that he had the most impact on his team's success. It's just been repeated enough times that people accept it as fact without challenging it. Nowhere in the words "Most," "Valuable," and "Player" does it say anything about a team. This seems pretty simple to me. A good player = a valuable player. Therefore the best player = the most valuable. With enough good players (you need more than one even if he's the best) you will win games. There is no other way to win baseball games than to have players who are good at baseball.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) You guys just totally overreacted to some joke Paris Hilton ad. But hey, I'm done giving the Dems advice. Go with the 'McCain = Hitler' thing for all I care. The last candidate who failed with a shallow attack strategy? Goracle 2000. He just looked like a jackass. lol, you say this like people in here work for the Obama campaign.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) They have gone negative and McCain passed them in the polls; this happened during the Dem convention and after the VP announcement. Not a good sign, they should be getting a bounce, not losing ground. The Dems don't need to "swiftboat" McCain, they need to prove how they are competent and better for the country. I don't think the hardcore Dems are going to convince moderates to hate McCain as much as they do. Face it, McCain is a likeable guy. What Obama needs to do is convince voters that he is going to be a great president; not convince voters McCain is a jerk. I'm not saying they need to swiftboat McCain with a bunch of character assassination bulls*** and make moderates hate him or whatever the hell, but they need to do a better job of defending against GOP attacks and start playing a little offense, and with a better strategy. It's ok to be negative sometimes, it's just not ok to go below the belt IMO which makes people cynical.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) I think the Clinton's would help the Dems better with a inspirational speech as to point out economic successes of the Democrat economic policies of the 90's. Then tie that into what Obama is going to do to improve the country economically. I understand that the hardcore Obama voters want blood and crazy attacks, but it's not working. The McCain attacks are falling flat on their face, best to make the case that Obama has better ideas rather than just say McCain sucks. I agree. They still have to sharpen their claws against McCain though.

Why would Orton's wife be mad that another woman thinks her husband is attractive? Or a better question, since women are not the most rational of creatures, why should she be mad? Or is it because he was dancing. Yawn. I'm so glad my wife and me don't have these kinds of arguments. -
QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) You know, if there needs to be an award for "guy that makes the difference and gets his team a ring", that's fine and dandy. However, and I don't care what they call it, but I also want to see an award for the player who's simply the flat out best in the league that year. Is that too much to ask? SFF Yes thank you. I don't care about all of this silly talk about intangibles. You are either a better player or you're not. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I think Alexei may become a better defender, and it is difficult to compare 3rd basemen to 2nd basemen. I love Alexei and all but defensively it's not even close and it probably never will be.
-
QUOTE (Cubano @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Alexei has played better defense and has done several web gems. He has played 4 positions and has batted lower in the order. I do not have the numbers with runners in scoring position for Longoria, but he has only a few RBI more than Alexei batting in the middle of the order. Therefore, Alexei should have a better BA with RISP than Longoria by far. Alexei has also made a few bone-headed rookie mistakes that should simply not happen, FWIW

QUOTE (FranktheTank35 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) But how valuable can you be if your team doesn't do anything throughout the year? Obviously not valuable enough.. If you bat .372 with a 1.050 OPS and your team is in 4th place, then I guess it was your fault wasn't it... you weren't valuable enough because you weren't batting .394.
