QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) People actually give a s*** about ESPN? I use it for highlights and to watch the WSOP and I don't watch or take anything seriously from them anymore. I haven't in probably a year. I'll catch it for s***s and giggles now and then, but that's about it. Ditto.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) I would laugh at them too, but I also laugh at the notion that the NY Times isn't completely pro-Democrat. And laugh with the same vigor. The NYT loses money because of their weak and heavily biased news coverage That trend isn't unique to the NYT either... the internet is killing old-school paper circulation.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Well, I am positive the New York Times is biased, so I guess theres no point in arguing it. Do you think any MSM news is pro-Democrat biased? Do you think FOX is pro-GOP? Could someone convince you that FOX is biased towards the Dems? Would you laugh at someone who said Sean Hannity is pro-Obama? Yes I would laugh hysterically. I do think the NYT is biased, but oftentimes the reasons for them doing a certain story or for there being a certain trend involves other things. Mainly $$$.

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) I just saw a list of the unofficial top nfl times, and Ted Ginn is the top at 4.06. another guy Wright I think at 4.09 Bo Jackon 4.12 with Dante Stallworth 4.13. The most jaw droping though was Deion Sanders 4.45 backwards. There were also some claims of Willie Gault posting a 4.05 and a 3.98. Gault actually was a world class sprinter so yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. -

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) You are right I had a brain fart with my times. I think Greene was 4.09 for the fastest NFL time (not at the combine though). Deion had a 4.18 and some scrub had a 4.12 at the combines for the top times ever there. Bolt possibly could get the 4.0, but I am WAY OFF and I apologize for the stupidity of my first comments Bolt could probably get near 4.0. But if he ran a 3.75, god that is like a 9.4 100 meter time, or something (another guess). -

QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Not a chance he would be in the 4.0. He easily would be sub 4.0. 3.75 max. Other guys have run sub 4.0 and Bolt is the best ever trained for just that type of thing. He would be closer to your superhuman 3.5 then your 4.1 prediction. Like I said for the first 40-ish meters he is accelerating. He is not running at that speed for the entire race and especially not the first 40 yards. The only way he runs a 3.75, or 3.5 or whatever crazy number is if he is already running at top speed when they sound the gun. Mathematically that works but in reality, no. Here is a conversion chart at http://minnesotapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=393870 and I've gone ahead and extrapolated down to the world record times and really I wasn't that far off on my estimation which actually was just a random guess (btw nobody has ever run a sub 4.0 to my knowledge, I don't know where you heard that). All I did was continue subtracting .05 and .06 alternately from the 40 times for each tenth... I was generous too, because the gaps actually start to shrink because of acceleration which would make the 40 time higher and I didn't account for that. That would make the 40 times actually higher than what I have here. 9.6 4.01 9.7 4.07 9.8 4.13 9.9 4.18 10.0 4.23 10.1 4.29 10.2 --- 4.34 10.3 --- 4.38 10.4 --- 4.43 10.5 --- 4.49 10.6 --- 4.54 10.7 --- 4.58 10.8 --- 4.63 10.9 --- 4.75 11.0 --- 4.85 Bottom line... No. Not even close. -
Yeah... Obama's tax increase does make me cringe, but McCain's plan is honestly delusional. I don't like either one. If it weren't for that I'd probably be totally in the tank for Obama.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) It's what i've said all along. Every time we get into this lame debate about the media I always point it out. Yes... but valid points almost always get overridden or dismissed by what somebody "knows," or thinks they know, and is unwilling to let it be challenged regardless of the facts that are put before them. Generally, the point that loses out is "Media outlet xyz isn't as biased as you say it is because of _____" and then it will get laughed at with a response along the lines of "hahaha you're so dumb the media is totally in the tank for Obama" whether that is true or not. Yes liberals do it, and sometimes they admit it, but conservatives do it too, and I have NEVER seen one admit they are doing it.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Not really, I acknowledge pro-GOP bias at FOX news. For some reason you think all media should be 100% pro-Obama and attack McCain. But that is the 'truth' in your world view. Running constant pro-Obama stuff is ok because it fits in with your world view, as far as you are concerned talking about how great Obama is the truth as you think he is great. This type of response actually plays right into the point he's trying to make about internal bias/cognitive dissonance.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) Manu has been out with an injury since early on, which is why I am so concerned. This is probably a very close game if he didn't get injured, team U.S.A. has just struggled big time. They've taken 30 three pointers, they had only taken about 60 if you combine all the previous games. You know standards are high when you get a 20 point blowout against your toughest competitor and they looked bad while doing it. -
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) Amtrak, by and large is running at capacity. Which is surprising given how poor their service is. And the food on Amtrak is only free if you're in a sleeper car. Yeah, I take the train to New York semi-regularly, and it's been sold out all the times I've used it, regardless of time of day.

QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 12:28 AM) I saw some crazy s*** on sportscenter... Using his 200 meter time, he'd run the 40 yard dash in about 3.5 seconds. Unreal. What's a great score for an NFL prospect? 4.4? In the 40 he would probably be over 4. A time of 3.5 is superhuman. It takes him a while to accelerate to full speed, and that doesn't come until about 30-40 meters into it. So I'd have to imagine he'd be around 4.1 if he was actually a NFL prospect. -
QUOTE (3E8 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) Cabrera leads all major league shortstops in defensive win shares...by a lot Ugh... he is so half-assed out there. I don't even know how to explain it. And "call the press box" swipes aside, the official scorers have been awfully generous to him. Frankly, Uribe >>> Cabrera at SS, and I am a big Uribe basher.

I have Dye and Konerko jerseys, and one with my own last name and #16. I probably should get a Quentin jersey. I just recently found my hat, I had a fitted hat that I just bought and then I lost it that fast.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Nice 81 yard TD drive. I liked it cuz Orton stood strong in the pocket and didn't panic like Rex would. he looked off safeties and defense on that long pass to Bradley, and they didn't settle for a FG after an O-line penalty negated a TD catch by Olson. Well it's kind of easy not to panic when you have like 9 seconds to throw and nobody comes near you... not sure how the Bears suddenly learned how to pass block. Before you get too excited, recall how Rex has looked every single time he has played the 49ers, preseason or otherwise. edit: this should not be interpreted as Rex fanboyism... simply stating Orton has had all day to throw today. Normally he is horribly inaccurate and the Bears offensive line sucks. -

Is the SF pass rush really this terrible? They are getting manhandled by the worst offensive line in the NFL. Orton actually has time to throw. -
So I put this in the NFL thread but may as well put it here too, Jermaine Dye is a Bears fan saw him at the Bears-9ers preseason game. edit: on tv of course.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) I wonder what the 49ers would want for Alex Smith....seems they like JT O'sullivan.... What would you want Alex Smith for? Not only can he not play LT or LG, but he sucks at his real position too. Frankly, if you look at career stats, Grossman blows Smith away. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Sorry, but he left that in California You beat me to it... if Cabrera wins a Gold Glove this year I don't know what I'll do. It will be even worse than Jeter getting it.

Francisco Rodriguez chasing Bobby Thigpen's record
lostfan replied to Yoda's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) I'd rather have Thigpen keep his record, but I wouldn't mind seeing 4 saves this weekend for K-Rod. I would rather the Angels just have 4 blowouts and no save opps for K-Rod. There are times when I see his picture or see him on TV and I am quietly fantasizing about someone hitting him in the knee with a crowbar, I try to not think about it, but I can't help it.
