  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) yes he did he's been on answering for a month to McCain's claims it was about time he made people listen to McCain. I really don't like it. All of this stuff deserves exactly zero attention.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) This thing is about to get REAL nasty. I hope you realize Obama is the one who opened that door. He really didn't need to go on the offensive.
  3. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) How dare they play well. Seriously, what audacity!
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) As much as I cant stand Nick and as much as I rip him I still cheer for him just as loud as any of the other Sox players when they succeed. Its probably not right of me to be cursing him out one second then cheering his homerun the next buts thats the way it is. I still do that to Uribe.
  5. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) What else was he expected to say back then? Things that didn't sound absurd after a 72-90 season. But I mean considering they've already passed last year's win total before August ended, I guess it doesn't matter anymore.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) Unless it's me. I've had that happen more then a few times. Really? I guess if it throws the schedule too far out of whack, but if it's only 10 minutes, they'll wait.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) I'm glad you can find humor in them, because most of the time, it is supposed to be humor. I don't take it that serious, all kidding aside. Some of them are obviously nonsensical and it's just funny to watch you rant around in circles.
  8. It was our pathetic record against the NL last year mostly that sunk us for good.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) DOH! McCain's Buy Beach Condo... Tell Americans to Skip Vacation Just a thought but shouldn't this go in the Dem thread?
  10. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) I think as well and I know you hear this a lot, but when the weather heated up, and the Sox had a fair few games at home, that's when Swisher really began to get it together and began to crush the ball at home. He needs to pick it up on the road though. And I found it interesting that his average against lefties was about 40 points lower, yet his OBP was about 30-40 points higher. He had something around a 29/22 BB/K ratio against lefties. Quentin is the same way - much lower AVG, but higher SLG and OBP for some reason.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Yeah there's nothing more we can do. It's the Twins that are bugging me. I want to see them lose eight of nine. Kudos to the Sox for not having a sub par stretch the past week or we'd be five, six games out. If only they had had a s***ty homestand we'd be five, six up. Frustrating isn't it? God I hate the f***ing Twins.
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Northwest has probably been the best airline I've flown with thus far in my travels round America (even if I did have 2 mins to make a connection in Detroit to Memphis running past 40 gates). If they know they have passengers trying to make a connecting flight they won't leave you. At least I'm left with that impression having been on more than one plane thats been held up for that reason.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) cant now. McCain didnt play by the rules he said he would. Gloves are off now. I agree, but like I said earlier, you cant get heard being peppy. I don't buy this at all. You don't have to stoop to your opponent's level unless it's a last resort, and even still, you don't have to get into trivial BS like this. Let's use this logic elsewhere on another example to see how it applies. The United States says "we don't torture." Our enemies ignore it. So in retaliation we torture. Is that an ok justification? No, it is not.
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) neither was Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. See how well that works? time to put the shoe on the other foot. I'd rather he stayed above the riffraff and bulls*** and shied away from this type of stuff.
  15. Why is this important? It's more funny than anything, but certainly not relevant.
  16. ...are we saying that Obama surrogates post in the Filibuster? Come on guys, these 2 threads are so much better better when people talk about smart people stuff, and not this kind of bulls***.
  17. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Not at all...in fact, I'm fully aware of it, but to raise prices and cut benefits is just going to make customers angrier, high fuel cost or not. And the speed at which fares (and gas prices) went up, has consumers surly as it is. And this kind of thing only makes people more surly. Yeah, just customers have to understand that they aren't the only ones that are hurting. The effects go way beyond just the pump.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) So will this effect the players union stances on any issues when someone else becomes head of the union? I'm sure it will, and to be as blunt as I can without being disrespectful to Upshaw, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing for the players... they were starting to get a little fed up with his leadership
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Of course (SOME) things need change, but I sure as hell wouldn't base my whole candidacy on things that are "broken" and need "change". That infers that we're something that we're not, and that is, for all it's faults, this country is the best the world has to offer. We only "change" things to better those opportunities, not (for example) take money from those who have achieved greatness, or put government programs in the place of a market society like our "sunshine up our asses RSO" wants to do. If you're not going to fix things that are broken, and talk about that during your campaign - and there will ALWAYS be something broken as time goes on - then what the hell are you doing running for office? We wouldn't even need to have elections then. Now, if we were saying that promising a new government solution to every problem is not the answer then I agree, but you're going a couple steps beyond that.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) Thats crazy, especially with the way they dominated. Before their extra inning semifinal win against Japan, they had outscored teams like 105-2 in the past two olympics. Thats crazy. Guess if theres any sport where its such a dominating team could suddenly lose one game, it would be baseball/softball... Nothing really to do but give Japan props, they deserve it. If you manage to beat the absolute juggernaut of a team in the Americans that has zero weaknesses anywhere, you've earned it. But if you are the US ladies, that really has to sting... you know you're the best, and when it was all on the line, for some reason you just couldn't deliver, and you have no idea if you'll get a second chance.
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) I'm still never flying United again after flying with them to Chicago and back and not returning home until 4AM in the morning over here. But I hope the above situation (with a monopoly) doesn't happen, because that'll be terrible for prices. Unfortunately, it could very well occur. I imagine you went through O'Hare, so I'd be willing to bet the airport is who you actually have a problem with, not the airline.
  22. I feel the same way I felt about Bill Wirtz dying - you know, I'm sad it happened, RIP and all. But, you know... for me to say what I actually think is a little classless right now.
  23. There is a guy on another board that disagrees with me on pretty much everything when it comes to practical applications, semantics, and the "how to get there" things (I am slightly left-leaning not-quite-liberal, he is a hardcore liberatarian). However, for whatever reason, we usually don't disagree on the actual result we want or action to take once we finish arguing, only the ideology for doing it. I would pick someone like that for my VP - someone who has the same goals as me so he doesn't undermine my administration but plays devil's advocate often enough to keep me in balance. And by the way we would both make AWFUL elected officials, in front of the camera anyway. Way too much honesty and bluntness. Imagine if Ozzie Guillen was a politician. Yeah.
  24. Negative campaigning works guys. It tends to make people cynical, but by itself there really is nothing wrong with it. The negative stuff people have a problem with is the blatant distortions of the truth, flat-out lies, or ad hominem character attacks. Originally, that's the pledge that Obama and McCain took before the campaign started.
