Angelo makes moves, he doesn't fit the stereotypical "Bears front office is cheap and conservative" mold. He just makes dumb moves sometimes (Archuleta although that was obviously at Lovie's insistence), is naively confident in things he shouldn't be confident in (the old ass offensive line last year) or just plain neglects certain things (LG this year). -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) "Supporting" is probably somewhat accurate - meaning - financially. He wasn't logistically supporting him. I'd be willing to bet there's some money trails there. But that wouldn't matter, because the American people would have never supported that, and they knew it. No. They hated each other. And they are just about as welcome in Iran too, actually. To believe that is to completely misunderstand al-Qaida's basic mentality. There were some shady connections, yes, but not in the hilariously distorted way the Bush administration interpreted it, and not with AQ. I'm reading this Newsmax article from 4 years ago and it's kind of making me laugh.

Hizballah is a really different animal than al-Qaida, just FWIW.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) I thought that was the last reason we gave. Especially after the whole WMD thing didn't pan out. So what is the "real reason"? Oil? Well I will give the "lenient" answer and not the "conspiracy theory" answer (which I am closer to believing) - they believed the intelligence when they really should've known better. By the time they realized they'd blown it really bad, it was too late, and we had to follow through. We made our bed and had to sleep in it, can't leave a job half-assed. The "conspiracy theory" answer is my personal belief that his mind was already made up even before 9-11, he wanted all of his information to be able to support his decisions, and everything else was dismissed - I can somewhat attest to that, too. I wish I could go back and find some of the documents I wrote in 2002 to see how accurate they were. They probably could be re-worded to sound like news articles now. This is wrong because conclusions are drawn from intelligence, not vice versa which appeared to me to happen in this case. In any case this is the only rational explanation I can come up with that would cause senior government officials to say things in public like "Saddam was supporting bin Laden."

QUOTE (TCQ @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) HANIE! HANIE! HANIE! QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) ^^^ yeah that Did Hanie play any OL in college? Otherwise, please stop, this is kind of embarrassing. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 12:25 AM) orton can actually step up and get a throw off in the face of pressure....this is a good decision And throw it 5 yards over his WR's head, or several yards in front of his feet where at least no DB can get it. -

By the way all Orton did was win this year's scapegoat contest. It will not matter if it is Rex or Orton stinking it up out there because it will be the O-line's fault, but your average meathead fan doesn't get all that and will just blame the most visible thing they can see. -

Buehrle getting slapped around by cheap hits this inning. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) I really, really don't like Joe Biden. Why?

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Your veiled threats always bring the best out. Please mention how Fields should be playing so Uribe goes off. Uribe seems to play better when he knows he's either about to get benched or he knows he's not the starter. If we could psychologically trick him into thinking that way all the time I'd give him a 100 million dollar contract to play SS. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Washburn really is the perfect hitter for Brian Anderson's swing. It's too bad he didn't get the start. Edit: to not play in place of PK or Swisher, of course! Nick Swisher says "it doesn't matter." -

What's sad about this is that Orton actually did nothing to step up and "earn" the job, he got it by default because neither one stepped up. It doesnt matter who is the QB this year because both will suck horribly behind this line. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) And what I meant was he managed the game and didn't throw dumb INTs like Rex. Orton is a better option than Rex now, but there are 50 QBs I would rather have and 30 are retired or past their prime. The reason Orton doesn't throw that many picks (compared to Rex) is that his throws are literally so inaccurate that they can't be intercepted. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 08:12 PM) Which is why I called it desperate to say we are evil. That stuff is a long time ago. Plus Iraq was to stop the evil torture that their government was doing. Sometimes you have to meet evil with really nasty. That's not why we invaded Iraq btw

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) This is how I feel as well. Grossman has gotten chance after chance. Orton won 11 games as a starter, and I know it was far from all his doing, but does deserve a shot over Rex. Please do not say this ever again, not even with the caveat you put after it. It's not that hard to "win" games when your defense almost never allows more than 10-13 points. -

I think Orton will be ok behind this line if he's allowed to use the shotgun. By the way, I literally mean a shotgun, to protect himself. I think that's his only shot. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) I like Rex more than Kyle, but I'll do my best to cheer and hope Kyle turns into a solid NFL QB. I hope so too, but deep down I know he sucks and he is a career backup QB playing behind one of the worst lines in the NFL. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Evil to me would be genocide, like in Rwanda or Hitler Human experiments Torture like Saddam stuff like that. I'm not certain what kind of definition he would be doing to judge something the US has done as evil. Perhaps giving billions in aid around the world? Sending our troops, at our expense, around the globe? Calling the US evil is just asinine. We have made mistakes (handling of Guantanamo etc.), and we have had some bad apples (Abu Gharib). We - well most of us anyway - have been trying to hold ourselves accountable, too. You know we have. I don't know why you're glossing over it. Some of the stuff we have done is the proverbial turd in the punch bowl. It's a distortion of what he said to say that he's calling the US evil. In the same answer he was talking about people who abuse their children and so on, and he said we need to confront that, too. Nowhere did he say anything resembling "the United States is evil." I haven't even gone back past this decade either to point out mistakes, btw.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) Same name. I only had like 150 posts though; I lurked a lot. Really when I was brought over here, I stopped posting over there all together. I also wonder what happened to the site. I went looking for it around draft time and it definitely isn't the same as I remember. I sent you the link to the new site also. I didn't realize there were so many nfl-fans posters on this site. The site that you get redirected to is NOT nfl-fans btw, but they did buy that domain name. Like I said it's a long story (I posted it a couple pages ago)

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) neo-con is usually referred to as a Republican whom supports large government spending, big budgets, the US maintaining status as the worlds main superpower. The term was originally coined as referring to a Democrat whom went Republican. Unfortunately these ideas of big government and foreign policy being a major aspect of the government was something that has been embraced by a segment of the GOP voting block. These are not traditional Republican stances. The people who hijacked the Republican party.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) Rio won't get it because outside of a tiny part of downtown, the place is a complete s***hole. And with two Spanish teams making the slant-eyed photos, Chicago should be running away with this thing. Brazilians speak Portugese FWIW

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) No one is surprised. I'm just pointing out that the Obama campaign hasn't been any more substantive than McCain's. But you see, it is still fairly early, there hasn't even been a debate yet. Policy differences will be shown. Meh, those of us who have been following this know what their stances are on policy issues.
-
That back-and-forth and posturing is standard political strategy and I honestly don't see how someone who considers themselves politically literate could act surprised. But until lately, McCain has spent very little time talking about his own campaign goals except as a way of mocking Obama. (Insert random response mocking the premise of "change" here)
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) obviously desperate. It is a very warped scale to think of anything the US has ever done as evil. Was this one of those "too obvious to need green" statments?

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) cool, i would appreciate that. i enjoyed the people on that board. i posted there under this same name, although i was far from a regular poster. i used to frequent the bears team board back in the day when guys like natas, cbus, and mouse used to post regularly there. as time went on i posted less frequently on the team board and more at nfl-fans. then i went through some life stuff where i wasn't posting much anywhere, and when i was able to post more again nfl-fans was gone. i'd always been curious what had happened to it. thanks for filling me in. I really can't stand the Bears official board, it's kind of a running joke. It's a microcosm of all the bad things about the Bears fanbase. Natas is gone, cbus is in and out because of his job, mouse is still a pretty regular poster.
