QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) It would be a huge shot in the arm to a crumbling infrastructure and neighborhoods that really need rebuilding. I would love to see it happen. That's what I'm thinking. Politics be damned, it would have a nice residual effect on the city afterwards.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 02:39 AM) I wonder where Chicago's going to find $4 billion in the next 8 years. They have a lot of private money - if they didn't they wouldn't have won the USOC round.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:32 AM) what happened to nfl-fans anyway? last time i went to check it out it redirected me to a different site. It's a long story but to summarize it, the former site owner (natas) sold the rights to the board and the domain name to a site that everybody thought was lame in around August of last year. That didn't go over well and the nfl-fans community just didn't get along with the posters there, among other things. So a few weeks later they bought a new domain name with a decent core of the regular posters but there's been a slow trickle of members gradually coming back since then. If you want to check out the site I'll PM you the link. You'd have to re-register though.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 12:22 AM) You know who I wish would come back? Goldmember. He's the one that brought me over here from NFL-Fans in the first place. You used to post at nfl-fans? Under what name?

I mean, really. Look at McCain's ads and see what they're about (I cannot think of a single one that hasn't been about what's wrong with Obama, for example the silly "who is responsible for high gas prices" with the Obama chant in the background, although not bothering to explain why or how McCain is not responsible), and then look at Obama's (the ones which are not responses to McCain ads, for example his Olympics ad). You tell me. There is a pretty distinct difference in tone and focus in these ads. If you can't see what I'm talking about it's because you're trying not to. Does Obama talk about his opponent and the unpopular incumbent that is a political advantage? Yeah. Of course he does. I didn't say he didn't.

Why can't MLB do something like the NFL does, with rotating divisions, but still factor in their rivalry series? Interleague is lame enough as it is, it may as well make sense.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) I don't even know what WSI is ... apparently that's a good thing for me. Correct. Save yourself the trouble. JMO anyway, there are good posters there but the mods as a whole are seriously awful. And it seems like they're aware of that, and just don't care.

We already have the next Sandy Koufax and his name is John Motherf***ing Danks.

QUOTE (Yoda @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) I used to be very active till I opened my eyes and realized that school related subjects was more important than reading suffering loss threads about how bad a game was. Not to mention that I started working 10hrs. a day, everyday. Soxtalk, IIRC, has never really been close to what WSI has been, but since this place does have more intellectual posters, it feels like it's close to it. Well that's a good thing. If this site ever gets close to what WSI is, I'm leaving. Fortunately I don't think the mod staff here has any plans to become overbearing assholes overnight so I think we're good.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) What in that did you not understand? Greg Olsen is eventually going to be the starter and the kid we drafted this year looks good and should fill in 2nd behind Olsen nicely. Clark is signed through 2010 (just got extended this year) and considering he's been among the league leaders in YPC for TEs the past couple of years and has been one of the most consistent players on this offense, it would frankly be retarded to just dump him. If anything, if Davis ends up being good it means we have 2 good young TEs and a solid veteran. But it makes no sense whatsoever to get rid of a productive player especially when you have a lack of playmakers on offense as is. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) as opposed too.....? Obama this Obama that Obama is stupid Obama sucks don't vote for Obama vote for me because if Obama is elected you won't like him Obama just said something and it's silly Obama Obama Obamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa He probably mentions Obama's name in his ads more than his own. This is the first time since the primaries that I've seen McCain spending so much time talking about himself.

Gio looks overmatched right now. Dye seems to want to remind everyone that he is also having an MVP season whenever CQ does something.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Well I decided to watch the question answer session with the pastor when it was replayed on FOX. There were some good questions and McCain had his best showing by a large margin thus far in the campaign. I thought so too. He was actually talking about HIM and what HE thinks. I think they both had pretty good showings actually.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 05:37 AM) Yeah the TE we drafted looks like he can be very effective. Also he is such a huge guy so can be used in blocking and passing situations, basicly next season he should be 2nd behind Olsen on the depth chart and clark should be gone. Um what? -
QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Caucasian and Polish. That is like saying "I'm black and Nigerian"

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) Our OL is awful. Not even considering Faneca really hurts now. Grossman is a bad football player. His throws were behind guys, in front of guys, and over-thrown. We didn't need Faneca honestly. Just a mid-range FA at LG would have sufficed and there were plenty of those, but Angelo didn't seem interested. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) I was thinking 5-11 for the Bears, but they might be one of the worst teams in the league, and thus be a game or two worse than that. The defense is too good and will prevent them from losing that many games. The bright side to this is they won't waste a lot of money due to drafting a bust in the top 10 -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) Not after everything was cleared up. Im glad lostfan mediated a little because we werent seeing eye to eye on my stance. Now that we are we can go back to disagreeing on it. The whole camera thing to me is going too far. Im not trying to justify violating crimes but I just think that if they are victimless crimes than its a waste of time to go this far trying to enforce them. If they were that concerned about the well being of people than they would do things like have the metra run between the suburbs and the city 24 hours on weekends to prevent dui crashes. This is just a way for Blago to raise money for whatever bs hes into now. :

Yes. We are going to suck so bad this year it's going to be hilarious. We could get by this year if we even had something remotely resembling a capable O-line. -
McCain: "By the way friends, if you haven't noticed, we now have a pro-American president in France, which means if you live long enough, anything can happen." :

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) well he bs'd that answer. i guarantee he nominates a liberal Democrat to the supreme court. I agree with what he said in principle though and I wish presidents actually practiced this more. I mean, I hear conservatives b**** a lot about Reagan's O'Connor and Kennedy appointments whenever they don't give a standard conservative ruling, but in reality they look at each case in a vacuum and interpret according to the Constitution, not ideology. People can't complain about "activist judges" (as if most people knew what this actually meant or used it correctly) when they just complained that the judge didn't rule liberally or conservatively. McCain just stole one of Obama's stump speech lines... lol it was pretty blatant. These are some pretty difficult questions though. edit: btw McCain gave the same answer, but with more BS, and used the term "activist judges" but then applauded the nomination of Alito and Roberts right after he named all the liberal judges... um yeah John

Well, the next question was a good one. Which of the existing SCOTUS justices would you have NOT nominated. Obama sounded pretty surprised at the question. He said Clarence Thomas, he ended up saying something along the lines of how he doesn't like the executive branch encroaching where the Constitution didn't intend (nominating someone because he/she is a Democrat or a Republican and would be considered reliable to rule liberally or conservatively)

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) i already turned the channel. i honestly don't vote on these issues the guy is bringing up, like "what is your weakest moment with God" bla bla. total snooze fest for me. nothing i want asked will be. He followed up a question to Obama about stem-cell research, and then his next question was "do you believe evil exists" or something like that. Meh I guess it gives some insight into the candidates character, but I don't care about how much of a Christian somebody is when they're running for office.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) Do you really know someone you would trust your car to, but not trust them to admit if they got caught speeding? You would have their picture in front of you, at least according to the news report I saw. Honestly, I can not think of someone I would loan my car to that would stick me with a ticket when it has the date and time plus their picture. And honestly, we do not contest radar anymore, but that was hotly debated as well. I wouldn't name one specific friend who would leave me out to dry like that since I would hope I knew them all better than that, but I have been shafted by my friends before.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) yea some evangelical is asking questions, not a debate. I might actually watch this. I could be being naive here but it sounds like the guy is going to be impartial. The candidates' responses are going to be there up front, to be taken at face value.
