QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) I agree, and I cannot think of a similar person for McCain. Liebermann.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) If RSO picks Powell and he accepts, GAME.SET.MATCH, period. They might as well cancel the GOP convention, and I'm being serious. Out of curiosity would you hate the possibility of Obama getting elected any less?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) I was speaking about the endorsement, NOT about Powell as a VP candidate. Obviously the startegy would be much different if Powell was on the ticket. Oh yeah, definitely. He wouldn't even hardly have to try. It'd be like playing a video game and using a cheat code.

I take classes year-round since I do them online, most of them are 8 week courses. I'm finishing up Intro to Astronomy and History of U.S. Intelligence. Almost everything I have left is core/3rd and 4th year classes, but I have Literature left, which would be a 16-week course, and I hate it a lot. I have 2 8-week courses that start in September, I'm thinking I might just take Lit all by itself for a couple of months when I'm done to lighten my workload over the holidays a bit.

What's Broadway's jersey #? I forgot. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Which is why the McCain startegy would be to dismiss all the reasons that would benefit Obama and leave the one that would not. He could try, but that probably wouldn't get past most politically literate people in this country though IMO. The benefits of an Obama-Powell ticket as opposed to Obama-Bayh, Obama-Clinton, Obama-Rendell etc. are completely obvious to me, and I'm sure to most others as well especially if you subscribe to the "VP should not be a yes-man" theory. The fact that Powell is black almost doesn't even register to me.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) It would also be one of the few real life examples of Obama reaching out across the aisle. That would be one of the gaps I was talking about. In fact, I've just convinced myself this would be the best possible VP pick for Obama, if he could do it.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Homerun VP pick as well. That would get my attention. Actually that would put me back into the undecided. That would be a blockbuster pick, he'd probably surprise a lot of people. Powell would fill in a lot of the gaps of Obama's weaknesses, assuming he'd accept. Powell is one of the few associated with the Bush administration (along with maybe Condi, and Gates) that a majority of people think positively of. And it would be unfortunate if people tried to imply it's purely along racial lines. Powell's race would be way, way down on the list of things Obama'd benefit from if he selected him. Plus, Powell got drafted by the white people in the racial draft anyway

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) It doesn't put Urlacher in the same boat, but the way he talks to his baby's mother is pretty god awful too. pfft. This is his own personal business. Frankly, we don't know what his baby's mother acts like, but from the bits and pieces I've gathered, I know enough to draw some tentative conclusions. Sounds like a perfect case of not acting like you deserve respect. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) You have hit me on the head. I don't think the government should be in my wallet or my bedroom. Taxes are a necessary evil. The question is "how much" which is where people disagree.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) Compared to BearSox, you are a raving liberal. Summary executions ftw.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Conservative = refusing to buy something reported by Fox/Kristol? I was talking more about the difference between mine and BearSox's general political views. He thinks I'm a raving liberal.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) we agree on one thing... Every now and again. I'm more conservative on a lot of things than you probably think.

File this in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category for me.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) Last i checked, McCain cant send troops. McCain isnt an official diplomat (although he is sending he own people to Georgia to evaluate the situation.... presumptuous much???). McCain cant produce sanctions on Russia. Much like any other person who is running for president who isnt already the president, the most McCain can offer is his words as to what he would do IF he was president. Well, for whatever it's worth, McCain does sit on the Armed Services Committee.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) I've seen him on TV with his claims that anyone not voting Obama is a racist. CNN has also had some segments saying that the only reason the election is close is because of racists not voting Obama. Which is crazy, considering how the split the country usually seems to be when two white guys are running. But I think a lot of people knew the MSM media was going to do this, so it's not really a surprise. I really hate when people do that though. Because when somebody actually wants to talk about REAL racism, the claims that actually exist and need to be addressed honestly, they get shouted down because they're associated with these kinds of idiots. He was talking something about the Paris Hilton ad that McCain made, and he was talking about how they had the Brandenburg Gate and Eiffel Tower at the beginning then he asks "why do they have to have those PHALLIC symbols at the beginning, how is that relevant?" Haha at that point i had to keep watching, it was like a train wreck, hard to look away. I dunno, was he saying Republicans are secretly jealous of Obama's cock? wtf?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) And away from that issue and on to the more humorous side...Here's a signature worthy quote from Senator McCain today. lol, was he for real? We've invaded 2 nations in the 21st century. One in retaliation, the other for no reason really.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I still remember the "Why the Hell isn't Brian Anderson our starting CF" posts that were rampant just after Spring Training. Quentin had a track record of success in the minors and majors when healthy, deserved his chance, and the rest is history. Too many people are "experts" on here. It's not like Swisher has blown anyone away this year to make that look like it would be a stupid decision.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Yeah, to me they should leave Ramirez at 2B. He has an above average arm for the position and looks excellent out there. At SS, I think he would have just an okay arm for the position and his numbers offensively wouldn't be what you want from your SS IMHO. From what I've seen Alexei's arm is nearly comparable to Uribe's. He's got a rifle. I'm not worried about that. What do you mean by his offensive numbers aren't what you want for your SS? A solid defensive SS who bats over .300 and has 15-20 HR power is golden in most people's books considering it's a premier defensive position. The only drawback to Alexei's game right now is his OBP. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) ... lol yeah I missed that post.

If China and India are smarter and more forward-thinking than we were, they won't all go rushing out to buy gas-guzzling cars and they will have a better transportation infrastructure that isn't so dependent on oil.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) For all the times he gets hit, our team just doesnt retaliate-its our reputation so he keeps getting drilled They don't throw at him intentionally. He crowds the plate, they throw inside, he gets hit. It would be senseless to retaliate.
