  1. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) An interesting stat that Stark mentioned: Hamilton has had 51 more runners on base than Quentin (261-210). So Hamilton has had 24% more chances for knocking runners in, essentially. No surprise, as he has better hitters hitting ahead of him than CQ does. That helps to explain why Hamilton also has 23% more RBIs. A textbook example of why RBI should not be used as a metric to compare players. RBI is the product of a bunch of other factors, the only one a player can control that has a direct effect on RBI total is how many HRs he hits.
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) And they would probably have the backing of China I would say, and that would scare the hell out of America I would think, those 2 nations working together. Maybe. China is in it for China and they do whatever they think benefits them. They don't really care what other people think either.
  3. Is Russia still self-sufficient with oil like it used to be back in the day? I think it's a net exporter is it not?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) You guys haven't answered my question. What exactly do you folks mean by "Grow some nuts"? Are you actually advocating a military response against Russia by the Eurozone? This would quite literally cause WWIII by the way. They are nothing like old Soviet strength, but they are still Russia.
  5. Honestly, we don't have any real options. We know that, and they know that. All we can do is tell them they're pissing us off.
  6. George Carlin too long ago to count?
  7. Re-igniting the Cold War would require an appalling lack of wisdom on both ends.
  8. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) No it's not. It's about the Caliphate. It's about establishing a world-over Islamic government. That's oversimplifying it.
  9. If Hillary Clinton didn't run such a sloppy campaign, if she didn't ignore caucus states, and if she had taken the Obama campaign seriously sooner, maybe she is the nominee now. However, in related news, if my aunt had a dick she'd be my uncle.
  10. I stand, but don't put my hand over my heart for God Bless America at baseball games. Why not? BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. Ugh. And frankly it bothers me when people try to substitute it for the national anthem, or put it on the same level. Just no.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) It's more like it's something that's personally affected my life and it will always hurt my respect level for said person. Always. So do you lose all respect for Martin Luther King, since J. Edgar Hoover thought he was a Communist and caught him cheating on his wife in hotel rooms? Just curious. Sure, it isn't cool and all, but it's not like people who cheat on their loved ones are violent criminals or anything.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) To me that is immaterial. To have an affair after going on the campaign trail talking about how the cancer changed his life and all of these things he wanted other people to sacrifice because of his eye-openings, is just inexcusable to me. I don't think much of someone who would have an affair in the first place, let alone one who made his wife's health one of the central reasons for what he was campaigning for. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all trying to minimize it. I'm just throwing that out there, what he did is enough on its own without needing to throw other details in that are probably inaccurate. It's not even so much that he cheated on his wife IMO since people aren't perfect, it's just that he looks like such a hypocrite now for all the reasons you said. I think it's safe to say we can stick a fork in his political career though.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Just exaggerating the ridiculousness that this campaign is is all.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Holy crap. Bad enough it happened at all. Worse if he did it while his wife was battling cancer. Worst of all if it also resulted in a child. What an asshole. He and the woman still claim the baby isn't his.
  15. John McCain voted against candy.
  16. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) How do people think Cox has done overall as a 3rd base coach this season? Has he been an upgrade on Razor Shines and / or Joey Cora? Joey Cora wasn't a bad 3rd base coach, he was f***ING HORRIBLE. Cox has made some boneheaded decisions this year but overall he's been ok. Cora would do something ridiculously bad, like wave Paul Konerko around on an infield single or something equally dumb.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) I can tell you all one thing, I'm sure not gaining any fans in this thread. I'll drop it. Although Sonic, I think you can find better words than "retarded" to use on the message boards. What is this, 2nd grade recess? Well he could have called you gay.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) Doesn't Mike Aviles deserve some consideration?? I hate his batting stance. So no.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) But that's just it, there's no reasoning behind it. For BA to be #2 on any list of favorite players (and I know favorite), just show's lack of judgement. With no back story, which there is none, BA could not have proven in his very sporadic playing time enough to be #2 on anyone's list. It just shows a complete lack of fandom. So basically what you're saying in so many words is that Heads needs to justify his reason to think something to you? And if you disapprove, he is less of a fan? WTF kind of BS is that? If you disagree with him that's one thing but really come on now.
  20. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) It's a nice fat revenue stream because people break the law. They chose to make that payment. If you ever go to DC and experience their red light camera system, good luck. That's a nice, fat, steady revenue stream for the district. But the traffic patterns in the city are probably the worst I've ever seen, and you can easily get stuck with a ticket when you didn't run a red light. The appeal process is so tedious you may as well just pay it.
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) So many jokes, so little space I started to, but the statement is a joke in and of itself. At least Danks is a LHP though and Fields can hit LHP... imagine if it was Uribe saying this.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) No kidding. Our lineup whiffing all night always had residual effects for a few games, the same with Fatbathia (who I hope we break the bank for in the offseason). Its amazing Danks dominated an offense like Detroit without throwing one f***ing curveball. That cutter is the equalizer. If Danks can learn 1-2 more pitches in the next few seasons he will be ridiculous. What if he learned a splitty all of a sudden. QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) Can one just learn a splitter? Danks already did add a splitter...? That's the big difference in him from this year and last, the fact that he can attack the strike zone at will now and keep hitters off balance. I recall Fields commenting on the fact that he couldn't hit Danks's new splitter in ST. But if he could add another bailout pitch, that wouldn't hurt of course.
  23. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:53 AM) "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin. "The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter." -Winston Churchill
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) I agree. When they can hold a baseball in their fingers and "flick" it a foot or so into the air, without moving their arm or elbow, they are probably ready. And that isn't so much to help them be durable mlb pitchers, but to protect them for other sports and life down the road. Joint pain sucks no matter what you do for a living. Right. Even if you never play baseball again in your life, you're always going to need your elbow and shoulder. If you blow it out as a multimillion-dollar professional athete that's one thing, if you blow it because you were trying to throw filthy stuff in Little League that's another. I think it's the flipping of the wrist out that makes it so risky, a kid's arm isn't ready for that yet. I can barely throw curveballs anymore though, I'm only 26. I hurt my shoulder a few years ago lifting weights in the Army, I don't remember exactly when or how though. I can throw about 5 or so to my stepdaughter before my shoulder starts flaring up again.
  25. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) Blackhawk fans becoming civilized? Sad that the NFL has such a crummy product that only drunken brawlers will come to games or the only way to enjoy a NFL game is to get intoxicated. Wha...? QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:47 AM) It's not that, Texsox. If your team is sucking, you have to drink. If they are playing well, you want to celebrate. Yes. This.
