QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 07:21 AM) I think that throwing curves is the difference. Without the hand and wrist strength poor mechanics take over. I'm of the opinion that young kids shouldn't be throwing curveballs (or sliders). High school and Babe Ruth maybe, but at Little League age, no. It's not that it's babying the kid, it's that the strain of a curveball on a still-developing shoulder is one of the worst things you can do to it and it's easy to wreck it early. If my son wants to play baseball and learn how to throw a curveball, I'll show him, but I won't let him throw any in games. Mechanics are the hardest and most important part to get down, the rest isn't that hard.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
lostfan replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It looks like the Bears might bring the worst OT in the NFL from last year back (Fred Miller). UGH. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) Then why'd you say it? Oh well, lets just end it here and get back to talking about rednecks... Because I can. Didn't you notice it wasn't a direct reply to you? Oh well. Yes back to rednecks.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) Where did I say protesting war makes you less patriotic? It's one thing if you're against the war, it's another if you don't treat the sevicemen of this country with respect. Criticizing the military for doing their job or recruiting soldiers is stupid, but criticizing them for murdering innocent women and children for the hell of it (or something along those lines) is justified (even though in situations like that it isn't the militaries fault but rather a squad's fault). But any serviceman of this country who risked their lives for us should be treated with great respect. And to be honest, when I'm talking showing our armed forces respect, I'm mainly talking about the servicemen from the Revolutionary War, 1812, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc. Not that our current servicemen aren't heroes and derserve great amounts of respect, but I feel the others are the greatest heroes this country will ever have. I didn't say you said that. I'm just tired of hearing it and it was headed in that way again. But actually I really don't like defining what other people need to be in order to be considered "Patriotic." That's actually a pretty thinly veiled propaganda word that reeks of modern-day McCarthyism.

You know something, the troops are not infallible, trust me. They shouldn't be some kind of sacred cow, where if you criticize the military for doing something a certain way (or for just flat-out f***ing it up which quite frankly happens more often than I care to admit) or protest war (not physically or verbally assaulting troops, but protesting the war itself) makes you less patriotic. That is bulls***.

There are times when other people cause me to be briefly embarrassed of my citizenship because theirs is unfortunately the same as mine.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Then how do you measure it? Sure, many more line drivers and sharp grounders down the line would probably fall and roll, but Blake makes less errors. I'm sure if you use that range factor stat that Crede is better in the field, though. By itself, FPCT is close to worthless as a stat.

I don't have the energy or the willpower to continue this argument. Truth be told, I don't care to know any more and I think all the attention this has gotten is a god damn joke. This is going on the 3rd year now. Part of the reason I'm so irritated with this is that Favre keeps fueling it. edit: and now that I think of it, I'm kind of pissed off at myself for wasting perfectly good thoughts and cerebral energy on this.
-
That was just a small part of it. Favre handled this situation very, very poorly.
-
Do you know the whole background of the Bulls' situation there? There is MUCH more to it than that. You make it sound like Jordan just suddenly decided to start acting like a selfish prima donna (well, he is, but that's neither here nor there) and handcuffed the Bulls. It wasn't like that. edit: plus virtually the entire team was involved, there was a domino effect, thanks to Krause. Krause ruined that team single-handedly and his sports legacy will burn in hell for that for eternity.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) A player of Brett Farve's calibre has every right to make that decision. How many times exactly?
-
I said earlier in the thread "zero liability" which were probably the wrong words to use, but it doesn't change what I'm trying to say, which is that Favre's piss-poor handling of this led to a situation he created for himself. Yeah the Packers probably tried to push him away, but they were also tired of his "will I, won't I" act he'd been pulling for the 3rd year. This isn't like when Krause blew up the Bulls and turned them into the laughingstock of the NBA.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) I'd like to see how many plate appearances he's had this year against pitchers from each side of the rubber. I tried to find it but was unsuccessful. 91 vs. RHP, 60 vs. LHP. Since Wise came up he pretty much never starts vs. RHP anymore though.
-
QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) But ... since you used that word ... did Farve get the idea that the Packers were ready to move on and did that affect his decision to retire? Did Farve then decide he's not ready to hang 'em up based on the Packers view of the situation? This really was preventable on Favre's end. If Favre wanted to play this year, he could have. This article sums up my feelings on the situation pretty well: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=ApP7...o&type=lgns

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 06:32 AM) and, IMO (and I'm sure the Sox have quite the same opinion), the Sox have a similar option in the name of Brian Anderson, who happens to be a 4th outfielder on a team in one of the most competitive divisions in the league that just so happens to be in first place. Chris Young would have the same place on this team. Atleast Anderson has an arm. It's ironic, but Young's stats really aren't that much better than Anderson's.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:37 AM) Thats how the value of the pick works. Good for Favre to get in a situation that will want him at QB, hes a great, whatever happened in GB is just a tarnish for them and none of the front office will walk away without being belonged to the Favre situation. Green Bay's front office should have zero liability in this. The situation was caused entirely by Favre.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) I don't know what to think of Obama being a White Sox fan... it's no secret that I don't think very highly of him. On one hand, I feel ashamed that he's a White Sox fan. On the other hand, a part of me thinks that he can't be as bad as I think he is if he is a White Sox fan. If only he was a republican... He is also a big Bears and Bulls fan. Oh and does anybody remember this, before he announced he was running for president: -
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) I'm a Packers fan and i'm sick of this. I just want it to end and for him to be traded. Yeah, I can't see how anyone can blame the Packers' management for this... yeah Favre got a chilly reception when he acted like he wanted to come out of retirement but can you blame them? They've actually built a decent team without him and they were ready to FINALLY move on (hate saying this since I'm a Bears fan) and here he comes with this again.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) Honestly, who lets a young pitcher like JV go 130 pitches? He goes into 115, 120 territory a lot though.

Could you imagine if those things got loose though and started reproducing everywhere? lol that would be a big mess.

NFL releases new code of conduct for fans

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) If they enforced these rules I wouldnt go to games anymore. As long as youre not hurting anyone or driving drunk they should let you be. I dont think the NFL will take it too far considering the amount of marketing for beer companies the league does. I wonder how many people actually drive drunk leaving games? It has to be a lot. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) so, are you saying the earth didn't produce oil and instead is just showed up? I suggest you go read a book, or hell, just go type "petroleum" into Google. There isn't much else I can say that's not sarcastic or snarky at this point.
