  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I really feel that the issue with Vazquez is the movement on his pitches. He has to aim down the middle and believe the ball will end up outside. Aim for the inside and it would be over the plate. Now can he develop, or does he have a pitch that he can control better and get the inside corner? If not he should work on it. It's not really a control issue IMO. He tries to make people miss but only uses 1/2 of the plate. He misses the outside corner enough times, he will fall behind or end up walking a batter.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) First, his fastball isn't exactly overpowering. However, the main reason he pitches outside is due to his tailing fastball. When he tries to throw down the middle or inside to righties, it ends up hitting them. His biggest problem is when his fastball tails over the heart of the plate when it's supposed to be on the outside corner. He throws his curves and sliders to the outside corner too. He has an outstanding changeup that gets made irrelevant. Using both corners is what makes Danks so good.
  3. Vazquez would have an ERA in the low 3's or high 2's if he threw inside more. When he does it he's unhittable. I don't know why he doesn't.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Let me add one more thing to this line of thought... the best way we can create sustainable economic growth is job growth, and more specifically, middle to high income job growth. And the best way to do that is to make a serious push - like, moon shot type push - into energy alternatives. This would also have the nice secondary financial gain of being leaders in the field globally, which could create a big shift in the balance of trade and the value of the dollar. No let's drill more drill drill drill give me oil I neeeeeeeeed oil
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) I agree, but only to an extent - personally, I think that minimum wage laws should have a floor, but me legistlated from the state level and not the federal. A $10.50 minimum wage will hit harder in Nebraska then it would in New York, or Illinois. Different areas of the country have different needs and can absorb it differently. That makes a lot of sense. $10.50 is a fair amount of money in some parts of the country. Try that in DC though.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) You might think there's a reason for that, maybe? You're getting there... Yes, there's absolutely a reason for that. The reason is the fact that he has not said or done anything newsworthy. Has he given a major policy speech? Has he outlined or re-emphasized a plan for anything? Has he gone overseas and met with foreign leaders lately (yeah, he did it before, and yeah, he got coverage)? Has he done anything besides campaign and whine about the media? No, he hasn't. Doing things like whining about Obama "playing the race card from the bottom of the deck" is working for him so this is what he's doing.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) That should say something, on many levels. e.g., the fact that he has not said or done anything newsworthy? Excluding the ads because that's been getting attention. It's not like I haven't been paying attention but for the past 2 weeks (or whenever Obama's trip ended) all the focus has been on the ads and how they relate to Obama.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) The sector itself is in a liquidity crisis. The Fed Bank has been printing money like it has been going out of style to prop them up. It's reversible... IF we were going to stop spending money like a bunch of coke whores. That's my main beef with Obama.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) Mostly because it is the only way he gets attention in the press. Since the Democratic primaries ended, I honestly cannot think of one thing McCain has said or done that's been newsworthy.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Will Negative Ads Hurt McCain's "Press Love"? I got to thinking. As much as McCain loves to say the press loves Obama, he's largely gotten passes on some of his major mistakes and comments IMO. Many in the "liberal press" say he has gotten passes because of his "good guy" and "maverick" image he built up with the press since 2000. But I have now seen and read 2 or 3 different sources that wonder out loud that by going SO negative this early in the campaign that McCain may have rubbed off whatever "luster" he may have had with the press. His "good guy" political image is scrapped. Thoughts? It's not going to change anything. The press has no incentive to. As long as the ads are getting attention they'll keep going along with whatever.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) I'm just wondering who is going to get replaced in this deal. All these veterans; some will see diminished PT and will probably brood. Sorry I don't worship Swish. Thanks for bashing my Swish trade comment and not answering my question. Your personal opinion of Swisher and your perception of everyone else's personal opinion of Swisher is completely and totally unrelated to his trade value. In a roundabout way, yes that does answer your question. Trading Swish for Griffey straight up would be insane.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) You know what's so awesome about this? In 50 years, when some kid is learning all about baseball and looking at digital cards on the Supernet or whatever the f*** its going to be called then... he'll know Ken Griffey Jr played for the Chicago White Sox. A WS ring will trump all that ...just saying
  13. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) so sick of reading your posts. Man, occasionally I peek out from under ignore and all the posts are of this quality or similar... I have to stop doing that.
  14. Tell me, what if Obama had said we need to exclude Russia from the G-8 because they're not democratic lately and we need to punish them? That's a f***ing stupid idea and it'd get chalked up to the "inexperience" thing. (btw that was a paraphrasing of McCain's idea)
  15. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Beer run? They don't sell beer at the grocery store here which is... lame.
  16. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) You know how it is with us old folks. We can remember 25 years ago but forget about yesterday. Dude I'm 26 and I've been like that for a few years now. Heh. I can recall a conversation verbatim from high school but I can't remember why I went to the grocery store.
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) I thought we had retired Carlos May's number. I could be wrong. IIRC, Erstad had 17 last year.
  18. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) That would be correct... typo. I figured as much. :
  19. Where did you guys all find about Griffey's jersey # at the same time?
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) I think the Red Sox are better off for not having traded Manny. I thought it was a mistake from the get go. I reference 2004 and 2008 to make my case. I assume you meant 2007?
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) ok Arj Barker The thread had gone on too long without someone saying it.
  22. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) Someone should have started the post off saying that the Twins got Griffey Jr for a few pieces they didn't really need, and see how many people would be proclaiming them the next Central division champs. I bet I could get called by the Twins tomorrow, spend a couple years in the minors, then get called up to play CF and bat .290 and kill the Sox. I hate the Twins.
  23. So this was asked before, but given that it's only noon-ish what are the odds Griffey plays tonight?
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) For accuracy, it appears the Reds pay 1/2 of Griffey's remaining salary for this year and his buyout, not his full salary. I'm too lazy to type that though.
