QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) He has become a better "pitcher", FWIW. Agreed. In '05 he was a thrower. A really good thrower, but still a thrower. Now he is a pitcher. He isn't as overpowering or dominant, but he's better at getting guys out.
-
That game made me nervous, but wow. Jermaine Dye owns Justin Verlander.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Yeah, but at the same time, Bobby isn't dominant in the least bit like he was on 05 and that correlates with him no longer that unhittable heat. Right now, his ERA is a full run lower than it was in '05 (admittedly ERA is not what you want to judge a reliever on, but just for an indicator) and his WHIP right now is 1.05 compared to 1.25 then. Last year his WHIP was 0.89 without that unhittable fastball.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) FINISH HIM!!! Bobby Jenks wins FATALITY

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:04 PM) Wouldn't be a Bobby Jenks' 9th if he didn't allow at least 1 runner in scoring position. So true...

Let's go Bobby
-
2 pitches 2 outs, damn glad I didn't blink.

This was a pretty decent offensive game, can't reasonably ask for too much more than what we got.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) i'd walk mcab I'd rather strike him out
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) this ballpark is a canyon As much as I think he sucks and is a fluke, Wise did a good job getting that quickly back in and keeping Magglio from getting to 3rd.

Why the hell didn't Alexei slide? That was dumb. Must just be used to playing Cuban style.
-
Alexei Ramirez is sex. Error or not.
-
Well Dotel still got the K, it took f***ing forever though since he takes a goddamn minute between every pitch and Guillen fouled if off about 40 times. That WP was really unnecessary.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) I thought I'd never have to point this out again...No he wasn't. At no point when he was with the Sox was he ever "decent". In april he put up a .261 batting average and .688 OPS, and his numbers only went down from there. He looked decent because the rest of the team was struggling so badly that a .261 batting average didn't look all that horrid. He was good for 1 day, when he hit that opening day home run. Ok, "decent" wasn't the word I was going for. I mean he wasn't starting-caliber or anywhere near as good as all his strange fanboys thought he was, but he wasn't the worst player in MLB. I would've accepted that kind of production out of, say, the 8 spot, especially if you're not a starter (which Erstad should not have been).

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) Darin Erstad 7/26/07: .264/.311/.341 Orlando Cabrera 7/26/08: .268/.328/.355 To think, all we gave up was a starting pitcher and $8 million for this selfish player. If the Sox can get something at the deadline that they feel can help them more this year than the possibility of two draft picks (I'm hoping and assuming Cabrera rejects an arbitration offer,) I say they go for it. OC had a brutal April. Erstad was actually pretty decent for a while, until he predictably got hurt.
-
Yawn. Standard GOP tactic, straight from the GOP playbook.
-
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) You just can't get over former Angels, can you? Wasn't the same bulls*** said about one of your faves from last year? Erstad. Erstad sucks and should never have been starting for this team since he is a walking injury, whereas OC does not. Why Ozzie fell in love with Erstad and made him a starter is beyond me. That was Anderson's job all the way, he outplayed Erstad in ST, and Erstad would've been an ideal 4th OF.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:51 PM) KC. He should be alright as long as he throws strikes and attacks hitters.. Last year he started nibbling and nibbling. He's certainly not nibbling tonight. Having said that, he needs to start skipping starts pretty soon, preferably as soon as we're done with this set against divisional opponents.
-
QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) Who did he pitch against last time? The rangers? If so, I'm not worried. He crapped his pants against the Royals.
-
Well Danks has thrown 49 strikes to 15 balls and has 0 walks right now. He's pitching against the Detroit Tigers.
-
QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) My point wasn't to disagree. I just laugh when I see a selective stat like 7/64. Why in the world would someone pick 64? Only to be negative and try to make some point for all the wrong reasons. Or they are citing some writer who did the same. And this is a perfectly legit reason to shoot down the OP. It would be nice if more people did that, the discussions would be so much better.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Last time against the White Sox 9IP 4h 1ER. They had a better approach tonight, and he probably wasn't as sharp. Verlander also had an approach against the Sox hitters, that was made obvious by the crazy amount of popups in that game. Nobody wanted to give Verlander credit after that game.

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) I think you have to be realistic and most people here are only negative. The teams major positives, like runs scored and whatnot are rarely discussed, while the major and even very minor negatives are combed through thoroughly and repeated ad nauseum. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) But there's a difference between arguing pos/negs and holding every single AB/loss/pitch under a microscope. IMO, complaining about anything that we are obviously not going to do well in (SB, GIDP, etc) is pointless. Again - neither of you is disagreeing with me. My whole point is that the reactions to every negative post tend to be just as worthless sometimes. Hell I could start a thread saying "this team really needs to tighten up its bad defense lately" (which is absolutely true) and I would bet next month's paycheck someone would say something like "quit whining, this team is in first place"

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) Look at Lexi getting IBB Alexei getting the ultimate sign of respect now. If they don't put in a RHP to face Josh (assuming they get to him) they're retarded.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) Lefties are hitting .322 off of Seay this season according to Gameday. Well, now it's something like .325.
