The guy who has the full name ChiSoxFan is a regular on the other board I post at, and is a daily lurker here but hardly ever posts.

There really was no other option at QB. Frankly, Grossman was the best FA out there. Sure they could have taken a flyer on Woodson and they've been bashed for not doing either that or drafting Brohm, but even if they did, it's not like Brohm would've been starting anyway, and Woodson definitely wouldn't be. I wouldn't be too confident in them developing a QB as raw as Woodson anyway. As far as WR they did have better FA options than Brandon Lloyd but they addressed it in the draft, so I'm not complaining too much. Bennett and/or Monk need to deliver though.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Love the Move. Very happy with the draft/off season. I just wish we would have signed 1 more Guard. Yeah that drives me nuts. Obviously Angelo had no intentions of signing a OG, I don't know why because there were plenty of FAs available he could've had for a modest price, it's not like he had to sign Faneca or anything. Metcalf is absolutely horrible, and that position is a gaping hole unless Beekman turns out to be some kind of ace.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) I knew that part, I just figured if you're going to compare him to harrison, we may as well note all of the issues there... I would not be surprised. The announcers were really slobbing him during the Finals, I was getting a little sick. -

James Posey is a piece of s***, the NBA's equivalent of Rodney Harrison. -
I live outside of my Chicago fanbase and I'm therefore "lost." Contrary to popular belief it has nothing to do with the TV show. "fan" is self-explanatory. Originally a name from TSN where my profile could actually explain the name but now I use it on every sports board I go to, or some variation. I don't post at TSN anymore because there are too many idiots there, and it's poorly moderated.

lol, I don't think it's possible to have a pure discussion not involving politics when you're talking about a politician.
-
There's been good discussion in the GOP/Republican thread lately. I just skim over the opinionated partisan anti-Obama stuff and talk about what I want to talk about. This is one of the few places I know of that I can take a contrarian stance to a Republican on a single issue, or play devil's advocate, and not have somebody accusing me of being some Obama shill. That s*** is annoying. So, this place is polarized in some ways and open for discussion in others.

lol. That's pretty awesome!

Furious Ozzie Guillen's Lineup Card Full Of Expletives

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 04:02 AM) Holy s***... seriously??? WOW. I don't think I could respect my manager after that ever again if I was a player under him. I can't believe this was so long ago already, either. You should edit this post and turn it green to save yourself some potential embarrassment here. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) The only guys the Bears have to worry about losing next offseason are guys like their QB's and various people brought in on short tryout deals like Lloyd and Jones. Maybe Mike Brown also, I don't think anyone ever knows his status after all the injuries and contract shuffling with him. Hester is 2 years away IIRC. I'm not worried about Hester, he will get an extension at some point sooner rather than later. Angelo likes to give players with big contracts heavily front-loaded deals so they get their guaranteed $$ up front, and they have some salary cap room to play with right now. He was planning the Harris thing for a while now. The meathead myth is "the Bears are cheap" and I don't know why... Angelo's MO with contracts is not actually that hard to understand. He's basically the opposite of Dan Snyder.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) If for some reason he was really, really good...then there's always the franchise or transition tags available to the Bears as well. Off-topic, but are there any big names with expiring contracts at the end of this year that could be looking at the tag? I think Tommie Harris was the one before he got re-signed (best news of the offseason btw). But yeah if the Bears wanted to they could tag Jones, but he'd need to have like a 1600 yard season for that.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) For real, the fact that drilling has become the number one issue to change gas prices goes to show we still don't have the correct mindset to become more energy secure. I'm not altogether opposed to drilling, but I'm just afraid that if we keep drilling more they'll have no incentive to do anything else, and there'll just be more talk. T. Boone Pickens, as much as I think he's a douche, is running energy ads that I think are right on the money and I hope people start listening.

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) If there is a train station near you take the train into union station and then hop on a nearby Red Line El Train and it will take you straight to the park. I'm just guessing but isn't Orland Park near the blue line, if so just take that and transfer to the red. No, no, no - the Blue Line stops at 54th/Cermak, Orland Park is out south in the 150s which is actually probably closer to 95th or even Midway. The poster that suggested a Pace bus was probably the best option. Orland Park does have Metra stops if you wanted to do that but you'd probably have to go all the way downtown and then walk a couple blocks to State Street which isn't necessarily the most efficient way.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) hey now, lets walk before we run I'll settle for Josh Fields on the assumption he won't suck.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Let's not fight anymore. You are an up and coming star in the chat universe, and I should be encouraging your rebellious attitude. I am the chat equivalent of Alexei Ramirez?
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) That's ok. Your attempt at providing the other side of the argument angle in hopes of sparing Greg a verbal asswhooping failed miserably. Yeah I probably could've used any other name but Jordan.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Nope. He still is. Fail. If a player who sucks or plays like he sucks for months at a time in mid-career still qualifies as the best ever I don't really know what to say.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) I agree. Who'd boo a player regarded as the BEST EVER in his sport and largely responsible for six championships? In this non-existent hypothetical situation, if Jordan plays below average basketball for an extended period of time costing the team games, then he's not the best ever, is he? I'm not talking facts, I'm talking hypotheticals.
-
I didn't say it was "ok" to boo Paulie. I'm saying it should not be unexpected and treated like the sky was falling.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) The man is not, nor ever has been, a quality defensive 2B. Think Josh Fields at 2B. There was a poster on this site that wanted to move Fields to 2B in Charlotte "to see what we had." I cringe at that thought. We aren't THAT desperate for middle IF prospects.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) Nowhere in anything I have posted did I say I was going to, or have booed Konerko. I just am trying to figure out how anyone is considered a jackass who has no PERSPECTIVE and doesnt understand tradition just because they boo Konerko for being unproductive. Alex Rodriguez gets booed all the time and he puts up MVP numbers every season. Nobody is immune. I'm on your side of this argument

So did Uggla have the worst possible game or what? 0-4, 3 K's, an inning-ending GIDP with a runner on 3rd which would've ended the game in spite of his 2 errors in the bottom of the same inning, and then another error later for good measure. Geez. You kind of feel bad for him.
