  1. I do not personally condone booing Paulie, but if it happened it would be neither unprecedented nor shocking. Players get booed all the time and it doesn't usually happen for no reason, we just happen to have a longer grace period than somewhere like New York.
  2. JMO, but I would hope that by the time we actually were getting production out of those new oil fields, that we'd have made a fair amount of progress in alternative energy development and not relying so heavily on foreign oil. A total pipe dream, I know.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Bulls***. It would be very significant. Booing Paul Konerko would show that the fan booing him is a no-knowledge jackass. Booing him for lack of performance? Bulls***. Any fan that boos him in Chicago is a buffoon. As far as my statement, gee sorry. I should have said it would be ONE of the lowest moments in Sox history. And it would. I repeat: There is a lot of significance in Paul Konerko getting booed. When players play like s***, they get booed. It's one of the most fundamental facts in American sports. Nobody is immune to it. Some players might get a pass for a while, but in the end there are no exceptions. If Michael Jordan spent half a season for the Bulls chucking up shots and making sloppy turnovers that caused the Bulls to lose, eventually he would've gotten booed. Having said that, I'd never boo Paulie. But the boo birds are only going to circle the stadium for so long before they swoop in. The only one that can do anything about that is Paulie.
  4. You're disaparaging the great name of Ken Griffey Jr. The baseball gods frown upon you.
  5. Oh, how bout my trip back home to Chicago, and the game I went to on the 3rd where right before the game started I was talking all kinds of s*** about how Wise blows and I was pissed Ozzie had him lead off to start the game, then he hits a home run in the first at-bat about 5 seconds after I stopped talking. :
  6. Geez I'm only on page 8. But this is a really good read.
  7. The Christian Science Monitor is pretty reliable all-around, IMO.
  8. Actually, I don't get the joke. /shrug
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) The GOP thread, on the other hand, is a bastion of pure political discussion on Obama's issues. lol
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) There is way too much partisian interest here for these groups to be managed correctly. Ding ding ding
  11. QUOTE (mreye @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Please tell me you're not comparing New York pizza to Chicago pizza. Bite your tongue, mister! lol, I have to admit it's pretty good. It's the only other city that can reasonably argue having pizza as good as Chicago's.
  12. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) Is that all the way in the Southside (just had a look on Google Maps for kicks) and it came up with a place named Dolton? lol, not that Lincoln Ave, that's outside the city limits and nowhere near where he meant. I'll chime in here and say even if Giordano's may not be a consensus and people think there's better pizza, it's still better than most any pizza you will get outside of maybe New York.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I vouch for the one on Randolph. I second this. There is also one on Chicago Ave. and Rush St. (?) that I'd recommend to.
  14. There is plenty of potential in the Bears' WRs. But it's a huge leap to assume that all that potential will pan out.
  15. : Now all I need to do is finally have Bradley have a breakout season so I can run around obnoxiously saying "I told you so" to everyone. Of course, if he finally busts thoroughly, I'll pretend like I never said anything.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) I forgot about Bradley. I've always been a fan of his, but the injuries just keep piling up. I am probably the biggest Mark Bradley apologist/fanboy on this site.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) QB yes. WR, I disagree. I might be the biggest fan of this WR core in the world. LLoyd still has good potential. He can make some spectacular catches, he works the middle of the field, and if he can go back and produce like his 05 season, he'd be a damn fine #2. If Hester could learn where to line up before the snap and become more reliable catching the ball (big IF), he has potential to be a stud WR with his breakaway speed. Booker is still a solid WR. He's going to catch everything thrown at him, and is a great asset to a team with QB issues. Bennett is the 3rd rounder who I think can really surprise some people. And then you have guys battling in Hass, Rideau, Monk. I'm really REALLY hoping we could land Favre... Bradley > Haas Haas should be in the Practice Squad Hall of Fame.
  18. Damn, what's up with all the self-righteousness? Crede's had a great offensive start to this year that's stagnated lately due to a slump. Defensively, he's had easily the worst year of his career that's far below his standards. Yet he still managed to make the All-Star game probably on the strength of his fast start with power numbers, which probably ended up squeezing out the more deserving Dye. It doesn't take a genius to see that, and bringing that up somehow makes you less of a fan, or a pessimist? Or bashing Crede?
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Another question, where was Schumer and the Senate banking committee when this problem was developing? Asleep at the wheel, as usual. And this is the government we are going to trust with covering all these companies? greeaaat I don't want to start any partisan debate since the Democrats have their hands all kinds of dirty right now... but weren't the Republicans firmly in power when people started noticing this might be a problem? edit: I just read to the end of the thread and saw your reply
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) If you want more thorough coverage, find newspapers (NOT TV news) that have people on the ground. The Post, The Chicago Tribune, NYT, probably others. They will give you the best, most complete picture. That's how I know the things I know, among other reasons Watching the talking heads on TV makes me want to throw a f***ing brick at the wall, I swear to God those guys are so dumb and they have no idea what they're talking about. The general level of commentary in this country is abysmal, it's hard to participate in or witness an intelligent, realistic discussion about the war.
  21. The surge is one factor of about 3 or 4 major factors that have contributed to the reduction in violence. In and of itself, it didn't do anything, I guess you can call it a catalyst. It was more of a general change in strategy from the previous failures. I really wish media coverage of the war is more thorough though, back in the first couple of years they would actually talk big picture, but it's been reduced to useless talking points since nobody really likes talking about it anymore.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) He also had Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne, and to a lesser extent, Ben Utecht, Anthony Gonzalez, and Joseph Addai...it's not like he lost the only legitimate receiving threat he had on his entire roster. It's not exactly Reche Caldwell, Deion Branch, David Givens, and whoever else the Patriots have had, outside of this previous season. And, relevant or not, it was the first time since 2003 that his passer rating was under 100, most sacks since 2002, and most interceptions since 2002. I'm not really trying to get into stats, that's not my issue with Brady. Brady's whole thing has been the postseason "clutch" thing which is overblown in his favor and credits other factors (Vinateiri, outstanding defense, general insanity of the goodness of the Pats' front office, field goal drives not really being that impressive etc) he had nothing to do with to him. At the same time, when Brady DOES make mistakes, nobody mentions it because it doesn't fit the pre-determined "Brady is God in the playoffs" narrative.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) He was cut because he was due a decent size contract and there were concerns as to his effectiveness coming back from the injury. He actually received a multi-year offer from at least one team and turned it down because of his preference to sign a one year deal with the Bears (he also considered Pitt, but Chicago was his top choice). Jones has flashed signs of promise but never really broke through and it was more to do with a poor offensive line, offense, and injuries as opposed to a lack of talent. There is no way of knowing just how healthy he'll be to start the season and what he's lost between his two leg injuries but he has been a starter in the past and is still young so it should be a nice guy to have on the roster to go with Forte. And also factor in the fact that Martz just simply didn't like to call running plays. I don't think there's ever been any doubt as to Jones's actual ability and talent though. The Lions fans I talk to on another board are pretty disappointed it had to end the way it did with the Lions and are kind of worried he ended up on the Bears.
  24. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Excellent news there. Now if the Bears can get Simms this will be pretty decent thus far. We have enough crappy QBs. We don't need to spin the infamous QB carousel again just for the sake of doing it. If there's something glaring the Bears are missing it's a LG. If I was to take a s*** between Williams and Kreutz that would probably be more effective than whatever the Bears were starting there, because at least they might slip in it and fall down.
  25. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) Ok, I was kinda hoping that this was the case. That's excellent news. Agreed, the story has a lot of potential to expand on after the first game. And there isn't just the whole thing with the reapers, for example, the batarians are a major part of the back story and they were barely even touched. You don't even see a batarian unless you download the expansion.
