  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) You'll feel better to know that you and I will be paying for the people who weren't quite so judicious in their homebuying skills. Oh, yeah that. Everybody hug. I put equal/more blame on the companies who gave out the loans though. So I'm just as upset at them.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Its makes absolute sense. That one trillion dollars has to come from somewhere. Those obligations are as real as any other obligations we have. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why people seem to be more upset about $4 gasoline than losing their houses. ??? Cuz I'm not losing my house? I was following up until that point. I'm fine on my mortgage payments so I'm not affected by it, but I still have to pay for $4 gas regardless.
  3. Done deal. Angelo finally comes through. Bears sign running back Kevin Jones July 15, 2008 BY BRAD BIGGS Staff Reporter Seven days before the Bears are to report for training camp the club deemed running back a need, signing veteran Kevin Jones. The former first-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions checked out medically Tuesday morning and signed a one-year contract worth $605,000. Jones comes on board five weeks after Cedric Benson was launched following his second offseason arrest, and provides some depth to a position the team still expects rookie Matt Forte to anchor. Returning from a torn ACL suffered on Dec. 23, Jones might not immediately be on the practice fields at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., and could be a candidate for the physically unable to perform list. Jones had visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and was linked as a possibility for the Pittsburgh Steelers and finally caught interest from the Bears, who otherwise were heading into the season with veteran Adrian Peterson and 2007 third-round pick Garrett Wolfe backing Forte. Jones also suffered a Lisfranc ligament injury in his left foot in 2006 and the injuries, combined with Mike Martz’s pass-happy offense in Detroit derailed what was a promising start to his career. After coming out of Virginia Tech, Jones rushed for 1,133 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie in 2004. Although he scored a career-high eight touchdowns last season, he put up only 581 yards on 153 rushes (3.8 average) before the injury. His best effort of the year came in the Lions’ 16-7 victory at Soldier Field when Jones ran for 105 yards and a score on 23 carries. With a one-year contract, Jones has the opportunity to prove he’s healthy with an eye on a lucrative longterm deal, and the club that gets off the bus running fortifies itself in the backfield.
  4. QUOTE (Fotop @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Heard this morning on the Score that Kevin Jones was either going to sign with the Bears or the Steelers today, according to his agent. Wouldn't make much sense for him to go to Pittsburgh, as they already have Willie Parker and Mendenhall so it looks like he'll be a bear? I'll believe it when I see it, but if true, that's a decent signing...still doesn't get them even close to out of the woods yet though. They would't be the worst offense in the NFL, at least. We'd probably have a decent 2005-caliber running game, but still no passing game to speak of (also like Kyle Orton-led 2005) barring any surprises from this crop of WRs.
  5. I'm a pretty shameless Mark Bradley fanboy. No idea why really.
  6. Not really. The Obama camp does it too, the Sunni-Shia thing for instance. As in, "While Senator McCain is busy figuring out the difference between Sunni and Shia..."
  7. Moreover, the Bush administration did that suspension on the development of new solar, so... the dumbness of that made his net effect on energy neutral, not positive.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) Is Mass Effect a solid game to rent and just hammer out in a few days? It depends. If you go straight through the storyline it only takes about 8-10 hours of actual game time assuming you don't die a lot. If you do all the side quests it takes 2-3 times as long. The side quests get kind of repetitive though, you can see where the devs just got tired of designing levels, or ran out of storage space or something.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) I'm trying to get into the game...I've loved everything BioWare has done in the past, so it's a matter of getting into the storyline, but the beginning of the game always just drags out so long. When I figure it out, I'll let you know. Once you become a Spectre, then leave the Citadel, the game really gets underway. The Citadel is kinda boring though, I agree.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 07:03 PM) I played it and beat it. Was thinking of downloading the extra content (Bring Down the Sky I think?) Story starts off a little slow but gets pretty fun. Very entertaining game and very stunning in HD. I really enjoyed it and hope they have a sequel (or better yet a Knights of the Old Republic) slated. It was planned to be a trilogy from jump. They're already working on the sequel, same team that did Mass Effect. Since you beat the game and know what happens I think you'll know what I'm talking about when I say there's a lot more to do storyline-wise.
  11. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) I read somewhere that Kevin Jones has worked out for teams and yet of course the Bears were not there. How the hell can they not be at least interested in him?? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3465537 I read today that now they did, and they're interested in him. This is one of those "I"ll believe it when I see it" kind of things, but if they signed Jones (doubt it'd take much) that'd take some of the weight off Forte's shoulders... plus, injuries aside, he's better than Benson would've been, and the Bears would be pretty legit at RB with a proven (albeit risky) option. Then they'd just have to hope that my boy Mark Bradley miraculously breaks out, Booker is resurgent, Hester actually lives up to all that potential, and/or one of the rookies comes on quickly... cross your fingers Angelo.
  12. Also IMO Beckham is too far away from MLB to really consider him in this org's plans, especially knowing KW's tendencies. Let's say that hypothetically, Alexei moves to SS, we get Richar or Getz (or both) up to play 2B and they're doing a fine job. Then Beckham, being a top 10 draft pick, is ready for a call-up. What do you do then? Your middle IF is set. Well then, you trade him for something you need, like a 1B, C, or whatever they'll need in 2010... simple.
  13. I'm not concerned with how the Sox spend their money as long as they're not the Yankees, and they're getting their best options out there on the field. And in the cases of letting higher-priced options go, getting something in return.
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) the New Yorker cover is actually making fun of the perception of Obama. The New Yorker has been very pro-Obama, claiming that they are intentionally trying to hurt his campaign is false. I was listening to the radio this morning on the way to work (Russ Parr, very pro-Obama when they talk politics), most of their listeners completely misunderstood the whole intention of the New Yorker. I guess that's the problem here, no joke is too obvious. Everyone should already know that the New Yorker is a liberal magazine yet people were taking their satire seriously.
  15. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 12:39 AM) other than the WS grand slam what else has konerko done for the sox? I mean besides the inning ending double plays of course. Jesus... this post almost isn't even worth a response.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) let this thread be exhibit number 1 as to why its important to invest in the draft and to have a fruitful minor league system....the cubs and brewers were able to make themselves better very easily, while we are gonna have a very difficult time getting anything of any type of substance done The Cubs have a really weak farm system. Especially now.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) Makes sense to me. The guy is about 38 years younger than Jose and can actually pitch well. Nice, let's trade Konerko for A-Rod now.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Only people to escape the anger of fans after losses pretty much have been Carlos, OC, AJP, Dye, Lexi, Danks, Floyd, the middle relievers and Bobby. So the players who have been performing at a high level and leave no reason for criticism aren't being criticized?
  19. Whitewashed in '05, you have led a trite and meaningless life and you are a very bad person.
  20. Better record in interleague play? Although that'd suck if you have a wide disparity in the strength of divisions.

    High Speed Internet

Even when a lot of people are on the same node for cable, it's still much faster than DSL ever gets, but it's also more expensive. I've had both. For someone like me the difference is noticeable.
  22. Meh, Bush gets blasted pretty hard on a regular basis, I think the GOP is indifferent. There would be a standard manufactured outrage that follows any flap like this, and then it would die.
  23. Anybody here playing or played Mass Effect? if so what achievements are you working on?
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Didn't want to be called out on stereotyping. It's not a stereotype if it's true. In fact that's what makes me laugh about the whole thing. You're pissed that your religion gets mocked, and your prophet is portrayed as a terrorist, so what do you do in protest? Act exactly like a terrorist. ROFL. Way to fight those negative stereotypes!
