  1. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) And with Uribe and OC's contracts coming off the books, that's about $17M in open payroll the Sox can use to either sign a Rafael Furcal, or upgrade at an OF spot if they decide to use Ramirez at SS and Richar / Getz at 2B. If the Sox were going a route other than Lexi-Richar next year I'd much rather they just kept Cabrera around than signing Furcal. I don't really think I like OC as a person, but damn can he play. It took me a while to warm up to him though.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) At least we can finally confirm that Obama is not Muslim because if he was then he'd be bombing embassies or something because of this. Green not necessary?
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I thought it was funny. I understand where they're going with it. It's a little over-the-top though. Then again I'm sure they know that.
  4. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Right now, I'll say Ray Lewis. You mean relative to what he's doing right now, or relative to his career? Because right now I don't think anybody's under any illusions about him except for some die-hard Ravens fans.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) 2 years ago Brady had absolute s*** around him offensively and he still kicked butt. The guy is absolutely ridiculous. If you want to give the argument of a guy whose always had something around him, look at Peyton Manning. The question is has he always had something around him or has he made a lot of good guys look like stars? ...this is exactly where I didn't want this to go. However, since you brought it up, Manning lost his #1 wideout for most of 2007, and still somewhat effortlessly put up another 4000 yard, 30 TD season. It's almost like Harrison didn't even matter.
  6. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) The tough part would be helping out family and friends, yet not giving everything away. If you help you're parents, well then you have to help your siblings and if you help your parents, well you have to help your grandparents and.....and cousins....and then there's HER side of the family. I have TOO MANY COUSINS for that. In fact I don't even know them all, but I would bet my life that if enough people in my family found out, they'd all come crawling out of the woodwork.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) Crede is in a slump. Baseball players do that from time to time. To say he is through, or that his back is the reason doesn't make any real sense - only to those that have been convinced since last year that this is the problem. If we made trades and other moves based on what someone has done over a month or less this entire team would have been gone. Joe is still doing a god job and I really think the fact he just isn't 100% comfortable is because of his being off the field for almost a year. It takes awhile to get the edge back and apparently others think he still has it or he wouldn't be an all-star. I agree with what you're saying except for the bolded part. The season is half over now, he should be pretty well-settled into his groove by now. That excuse was maybe valid in April, but it's now July.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Barry Sanders. No, sorry. And I'm a big Payton guy too.
  9. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) I suppose if he's rated #1 or #2 all-time among quarterbacks then yeah, he's overrated, but his resume is pretty damn impressive. This is basically what I said.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) brady has always had alot around him, youre right, which certainly helped...but most of the greats do too, peyton always had tons around him too....montana and young had rice, elway had great running games etc. ....i dont think hes the best ever, at least not yet, but its hard to argue with what the guy has done....though i do think he had the benefit of knowing the defense before they even lined up frequently I'm referring to the fact that he is talked about like a hero for the SB victory over the Rams, for example, when in that game he basically did nothing except not blow it while the defense and Vinateiri won the game. Oh now I remember, he marched fearlessly down the field for like 30 yards against a soft zone defense. Yay! Moreover, that SB would never have happened if it weren't for the tuck rule basically jump-starting his legacy (the entire free world knew he fumbled that ball). He had a legit statistically dominant game against the Panthers, but again, lame field goal drive for which the credit is owed to Vinateiri, but Brady gets it anyway I guess because he's handsome and he's a QB. FG drives are just not very impressive to me and should not be mentioned with the memories of Montana and Elway scoring TDs, and having to use the whole field.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) I'd end that sentence right there Touche.
  12. Very few leaders in this country actually know what the f*** they're talking about when it comes to energy, so frankly, I don't want to hear it.
  13. I'm probably gonna get blasted for saying this because I always do and nobody ever actually stops to read what I'm saying, but Tom Brady gets way more credit than he deserves for the Pats' 3 SB wins. Thanks to ESPN's constant verbal fellating of him, people now think he's the greatest QB ever. He may have that 50 TD record now (which some guy named Randy Moss and a ridiculously good offensive line may have had something to do with, by the way), and he's a Hall of Famer, but cmon.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) I'd put Tillman on that list before Harris. Tillman has been living off one game of defending Moss for his entire career. Tillman's thought of right about where he should be. He's not mentioned with the elite corners, but he's as consistent and reliable as most corners in the league. He can't defend the small, quick guys though, but I blame Ron Rivera for leaving him out there to die in the '05 playoffs like that against Steve Smith.
  15. I've thought about this before. I don't want to ever be known as a "rich guy." I don't want to change anything about the way I live, except for having a bigger house. That's probably the hardest part right there. In any case the first thing I'd do is pay off my current mortgage and car loan, and look for a bigger house, no more than, say, 1.5M (that sounds pretty extravagant, but this is the East Coast, so it's not). I'd pay my parents' mortgage and give them some cash to let them finally retire, then get my brothers and sisters houses. I have a massive family so I'd have to find a way to be semi-discreet about it, and I'd also have to figure out how to keep my wife off these massive spending sprees, which will probably be the second hardest thing to do lol.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) BTW- I was reading my updates on my phone and it said "Hall hits for Pierzynski". What happened to AJ in the 4th? He got HBP on his left ankle, he dropped to the ground in obvious pain. It bruised his ankle, Hall will start tomorrow. He'll probably be good after the ASB.
  17. QUOTE (The Bones @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 12:51 AM) And anyone who says he should not come back should just shut it. He should play for as long as he feels like and as long as someone pays him. He can play as long as he wants to, absolutely. But this drama game he's been playing for the last 3-4 years is really getting old. Actually it was old 2 years ago.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 12:54 AM) I'd like a Bear fan to give me a legitimate reason why Favre would come here. The offense placed around him would be perhaps the worst in the NFL outside of obviously Favre himself, and he could not win a Super Bowl here. Plus, he's have a PATHETIC offensive coordinator and a head coach that is all about defense, with a GM that couldn't recognize offensive talent if it bit him in the ass. I have to call bulls*** on this pipe dream, although it would be funny to see. I don't see anybody here that actually thinks it's going to happen. It's purely hypothetical and acknowledged as a pipe dream.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) I hope you are not mad Danks started the inning. He breezed through the last one. Starting it no, not really, but he was at 95 pitches and should've been pulled after the 2B.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) That sounds exactly like what it might be for me. I dont have the black modem but I bought a different one and had the same results. I notice that if Im on AIM and have my SlingBox going or on certain pages is when it has the problems. I would venture to guess if you switched out your modem, it'd be doing the exact same thing.
  21. There are times when I think Ozzie manages by pulling a magic 8 ball out of his ass.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) I think its a blessing no White Sox pitcher is in the ASG. Let them rest. I just hope Danks can keep it up in the second half. It soon will be territory he's never been in innings-wise, and he's going to have to be sharp. Me too. Definite snub of Danks, but oh well. Especially if this team goes to the playoffs.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) I'm surprised Danks is in. I'd have shut him down and called it a first half of the season. He's been absolutely tremendous the past couple weeks though (getting deep into games and giving up very few runs). After this start, I'm calling him the biggest snub of the All Star Game. Me too, althought I guess he has the ASB to rest. I figure if you're going to take him out for the Cubs game, which was close and arguably was one of the biggest reasons we lost that game, why would you leave him in for this one, when we've got a big lead?
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) I thought it was one of the dumbest trades of all time. I wasn't so upset about that trade, I was more confused as to why he'd trade Garcia to make room for McCarthy, which I understood, then trade McCarthy after all that hype. I eventually settled down and figured it was just a lateral trade and that Danks would be as good as McCarthy would've been. I was wrong, but not for the reasons I thought I'd be.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) It's definitely my modem. It goes on and off, not the router, unless the router causes it to go on and off. I doubt it. Are you using one of the black Motorola ones? Those are awesome and almost never drop out so I would be surprised if that's what it was. More than likely it's your signal strength that's the problem. Both times where I had my modem going in and out, that's what it was. Back at my old apartment complex, it kept dropping my signal every time I started using a lot of bandwidth, like playing a game or loading someone's Myspace that had music on it or something which obviously was annoying as hell. Eventually, after a couple of visits, I found that the problem was the wiring that needed to be upgraded. The place I was living in was built and wired for cable, but this was way before anybody had ever heard or thought of digital cable boxes and wireless internet, which used a lot of bandwidth. So underground, they had the older, thinner cables that would get taxed out at my 3 cable boxes and cable modem all asking for bandwidth at the same time. They upgraded the cables outside which took a while since they had to get a contractor to go underground, but at least they (Comcast) didn't charge me for the time I was using crappy internet. Now, you'd think Comcast would go upgrade all those at once so they don't have to deal with the problem, but I guess they're looking after their bottom line and that'd cost too much to do all at once. Right now, I'm also using cable internet (not Comcast b/c of come contractual thing that I don't know much about) and I was having signal issues for a while, but it's because I was splitting my signal between this computer and the TV behind me. I had to disconnect it from a TV, it didn't work with better splitters. I guess my cable runs too long for it to do that so I'm gonna buy a signal booster and see how that works out.
