  1. Hillary could lose every state from here to the convention, and she would still have enough delegates to secure the nomination. Numbers are what they are.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Fair and square? Let's see. This is technically true in the same way that the White Sox "won games" last year. But you don't see anyone arguing that the 2015 White Sox deserved to go to the playoffs based on the fact that they technically did win games, plural, that year. Either way, the point of a primary isn't to "win states," it's to get more delegates, which is not a thing he's doing. No he doesn't. Clinton has 3 million more votes than him. Sure, but unfortunately, tweets don't count as votes. If Bernie was really winning, the superdelegates would all switch to his side like they did for Obama in '08, but really the only ones who are talking about superdelegates are Bernie and his supporters, and Bernie is talking about appealing to the superdelegates at the convention to take the nomination away by overturning Clinton's legitimately-won pledged delegate lead. If Hillary was that disingenuous (and she was, in fact, in 2008, before realizing it didn't work) Bernie's supporters would be screaming bloody murder. Look, I supported the guy and pulled for him to win, but the biggest reason Bernie Sanders isn't winning right now is Bernie Sanders., and it's just time to move on If his campaign was good enough, he could've done it, but it wasn't.
  3. I mean... identifying the problems in American politics really isn't that hard... anyone with an IQ over 90 can do that. Proactively addressing those problems in a meaningful way, that's the hard part. It takes years of focus and effort, it's not something you just fix with a magic wand in a single election. This is what Obama's "trudge up the Hill" joke at the WHCD meant, it wasn't really a jab at Hillary. He was acknowledging that she was probably right back in 2008 about how hard it was to get things done, since they have the same basic approach to things.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) Walk up sales don't happen much anymore. I forgot the number but a few years ago I think in 2012 there was a walk up IIRC under 2k, and they said it was the largest walk up of the season. The days of half priced Mondays and bring a Pepsi can for a half priced ticket are OVA! Most get their tickets in advance, and if you are going to go to 2 or 3 or 4 games at most, why would you choose a game where you could freeze your ass off? Until the good seats from the good weather games are sold, the April/May games are going to not be that well attended for the most part. I almost never get walk up tickets to any baseball game actually, even though I could. The exception being the Sox, because I go with my cousins and they sit in the bullpen sports bar in front of 106 or wherever it is.
  5. Rodon has that one really, really bad outing that's weighing down his ERA. I think he only managed to get one guy out. The rest of the time he's been pretty good.
  6. Jose Abreu has been chipping away at his low batting average game by game, gradually getting his swing back. It started with a couple seeing eye singles, then a blooper, a soft liner to a corner, a hard liner to a gap... he'll be back to himself pretty soon.
  7. None of this matters. Hillary didn't even spend a dime campaigning in Indiana because the outcome of that state doesn't matter to her, as Bernie picked up one, maybe two delegates. She's got a massive lead in pledged delegates that's way too much to overcome (by this point in 2008, Obama was leading by about 100 and Hillary was chipping away, but it was too much and she couldn't do it). Right now Hillary has a lead of about 300 pledged delegates. Notice I haven't mentioned superdelegates. Before saying "oh, this is so unfair," consider that if the Democrats awarded delegates the way the Republicans do, Hillary would be leading by something like a thousand. This is a ridiculous, Byzantine system, but it's the same system that produced Obama over Clinton because he was better at it. Bernie made it farther than a lot of people thought he would, but he doesn't get a participation trophy. He is losing, fair and square, and the main reason has been his campaign strategy. He won a bunch of states that had an insignificant number of delegates and they spent a whole week crying about Wyoming, which has 14 delegates, before getting crushed on the east coast. For the past month, his campaign has loudly cried about anything that's not specifically strategically advantageous for him as being "rigged." At some point there needs to be a reckoning with reality.
  8. QUOTE (TRU @ May 3, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) wait a sec.. this guy just told me on facebook recently he never posts anymore "Oh, lostfan, I don't like that guy" "Me either, tbh"
  9. The Democratic primary (and for that matter the Republicans too) hasn't had any suspense for weeks if you A) know what to look for (pledged delegate leads and how delegates are counted) B) are not in denial
  10. Carly Fiorina managed to lose twice in the same race. Nobody has ever done that before. I'm impressed. Maybe Trump will name her his VP and make it a hat trick?
  11. QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 3, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Does this make Erik Johnson the 5th guy? For now
  12. It sucks that it came to this, but there was no other move the team could've made.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 3, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Arya's story arc is one of my favorites in the book but I am anxious to see what becomes of her after her training anyway I kind of half-jokingly called Arya Bruce Wayne way back in Season 1.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 3, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) The Dorne storyline is such a mess in the show. Hopefully they find a way to quickly write that out. The only scene in Dorne I cared remotely about was when one of the Sand Snakes showed her breasts gratuitously. That's it
  15. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 3, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) Yea it was a very smart move by the show. I think they have been learning some lessons, they wont be perfect (hey Dorne!) but they're getting really good at progressing storylines while also putting in the details. So back to speculation, do the Freys take revenge on Ramsay now? I would imagine they do at some level but who would they ally with? In due time I imagine, but pretty much everyone hates the Freys
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ May 3, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) Not sure this is the phrase. I just spit out my drink.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 3, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) Best episode of the entire show, imo. I still cringe at the thought of it, but this episode was damn good too. I don't typically like to get in the "books vs. show" debate but the show moves much faster without being tied to the books and it's not affected by the dullness of the past couple of seasons. They waste no time. Arya was on the streets for 2 episodes, and I feel like before, she would have spent half the season there.
  18. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) So, I'm curious if that "something stupid" already happened in this episode. Ramsay can easily play off Roose's death as poison. But I'm not entirely sure he can do that with Walda and the baby. He can't say they died in childbirth (Walda was obviously walking around with the kid), and he can't really say she was poisoned (since I doubt there's any body to be found). Maybe I'm overthinking this. Ramsay has control of Winterfell and everyone there is terrified of him, so he might be able to control the information. But that seems like a bad dangling thread from Ramsay. To sum up his situation: (1) Roose destroyed the alliance with the Lannisters by taking in Sansa (and Cersei authorized Littlefinger to march on Winterfell with the Knights of the Vale last season); (2) Ramsay lost support in the North by treating Sansa like crap and then losing Sansa; and (3) Presumably, Ramsay just lost the support of the Freys by killing Walda and her child. When Sansa reappears, it's going to be Karstarks + Boltons vs. everyone else... The last time the Freys got f***ed out of an heir to the North, the Red Wedding happened. Ramsay's treachery is logical, but he doesn't think these things through. He really has no idea what he's doing, and he's basically Joffrey at this point, without a Small Council.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) Who the heck are you? some random black guy
  20. Veep is hands down my favorite show on TV right now, and I hate that it's only 30 minutes and the seasons are so short.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:27 PM) Unfortunately we were relevant in playoff discussion on Thanksgiving last year and then promptly lost the rest of our games lol, maybe I should set a higher, more specific standard. like "win a mimimum of 9 games" (which I feel is low. This roster as constructed could win 11)
  22. I'm having a very very very hard time with people who quite obviously haven't cared or been paying attention showing up these past few months who think they know everything and want to lecture everyone else about how things work... since they will disappear again before 2018 like they always do
  23. This is probably a dead horse to you guys, but I can't think of a single person involved with the Bulls I appreciated this year. Even (or especially) Butler, whose glaring lack of leadership chops was exposed.
  24. I'm going to suspend Y2HH because I think he misses me.
  25. The Cubs are so good it's f***ing disgusting.
