  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) Unless Crede goes down for the rest of the year, bringing up Fields is a bad idea for a pennant race. With Josh up, there would be quite a few errors and balls that get by him at 3B, I'm as big a Crede guy as anyone else, but how would that be different from Crede airmailing easy throws over Konerko/Swisher's head once or twice a week?
  2. Ground ball, over the head of Jenks, Uribe, charges, throws... OUT!!! AND THE WHITE SOX HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!
  3. "that is when you give too much credit to the fastball of Joe Borowski" lol, no s*** right? SOX WIN! BOROWSKI f***ING SUCKS
  4. God dammit I just tried to put on mlb.tv on the off chance I could catch Alexei Ramirez tying the game, and I get the fireworks because I was about 4 seconds too late.

  6. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Maybe you had to see JD's K. Well when JD's off he does look pretty bad.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) You can for not hitting Betancourt when every other team does. I wasn't watching the game (I was at O's-Royals game) but he pitched to 2 batters, wtf? I'm not going to get mad at Quentin for flying out and Dye for striking out.
  8. I can't really get mad at the offense this time, I mean Lee has been lights out this year. Danks was just as dominant though.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) This thread long-ago left the original topic, why stop now? Honestly, there should be at least a salary floor if there is not going to be a salary cap... I agree. I mean I hate the uncontrollable big-market spending as much as anybody else (although the Yankees have toned it down a bit lately when they realized it wasn't working) but really, if the big-revenue teams give cash to teams like the Marlins, Rays, Twins, etc. and some of those teams don't spend that money on salary, they have no right to complain. But they still do. Or you could just be like the Twins, and be better than everybody else at everything involving roster management so you don't need to spend that much money.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) No, it's not like they can't afford it....they get $60-some million in revenue sharing before they sell one ticket or beer (although they don't sell many). This is bordering on another topic entirely, but I hate when small-market teams don't spend their revenue-sharing money.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) he's a horrible journalist. i'll just leave it at that. My standards are lowered as evidenced by that video clip. It would be unreasonable for me to compare everyone to Tim Russert.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) good lord look how dumb our TV media is... http://www.veracifier.com/episode/TPM_20080701 lol, I couldn't even watch that whole thing, I turned it off when that screaming blonde said "as an American, this makes my blood boil." lol. yeah ok.
  13. Anderson Cooper is a decent journalist.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Yeah, see him. He's not doing too badly right now. David Aardsma with the Sox. edit: no need to clarify which Sox, lol
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Jumping in late here, and while his value is not through the roof, MacDougal still has value, and could be a key piece as a throw in a deal. Too many underestimate the value of pitchers with MacDougals stuff. Every team in the league would be willing to take a chance on him. Look at Aardsma, he was as bad, if not worse than MacDougal last year and we did get two borderline decent prospects for him. While we didn't get much for Aardsma, we still got more for him than what we did for Iguchi last year. With the way some people act, you'd think people with MacDougal's stuff grows on trees. Like Dick Allen said, if he has good stuff but can't control it, it doesn't matter. See also: David Aardsma I do think MacDougal has a small amount of value though. Very small.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) I'm not sure how that's stabbing anyone in the back. Its a flip-flop, and showed some weak character on Obama's part. I guess to me, backstabbing is something else. Probably just semantic. I'd call it "disappointing" or "weak" personally.
  17. The FISA thing. Which I don't really understand why he did anyway, because now instead of being "soft on terror" they will just attack him for being a flip-flopper. Should've just stuck to his guns.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) RF is not meant to be position-fungible. This. You compare a SS's range factor to other SS's, not to another position because some players have more total chances than others, naturally.
  19. Range factor is relative only to that one position, you're never, ever going to find a CF with a range factor in the double digits. That would mean the ball was hit to him almost every time there was a chance to make an out. But range factor only tells you one thing (# of outs they are responsible for) and you have to look at the other sabermetrics with it.
  20. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) Fld Pct and errors is the most straight foward accepted way of judging the defensive skill of a player, more importantly a middle infielder. The fact is that of all the balls hit to short OC makes more of them become outs. And while gold gloves arent necessarily the highest factor to judge someone by it proves that a large group of people acknowledge that there is no one clearly better than that player. I dont know how there are so many uribe supporters, Uribe does have a better arm ill admit that but i cant remember a time when cabreras arm has severely hindered him, and david eckstein has made a career with a very weak arm. Are you kidding? I hate Uribe, he sucks. But if you can't see how good of a SS is you're just blind. FPCT is an incomplete and outdated stat, used by itself it tells you almost nothing. The new sabermetric stats may sound geeky but they take all defensive skill into account - FPCT does not.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) He broke down even earlier last season, but if you look at his minor league inning totals you can see that he hasn't even come close to throwing the amount of innings that it takes to pitch in a complete major league season and the White Sox need to be aware and careful because if you push him too far past his prior year inning totals you take a major chance at ruining a promising arm (and this is statistically proven). I agree with all that, but I was just adding on that there was more than one reason his ERA balooned as the year went on.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) I think he was about 4.5 at this point. I was happy. Dude was 21. He was about what I expected, and I think 4.5 is fair to expect of a rookie 5th starter, even for one that's a top prospect.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) I think the Sox are interested, but they passed on signing him prior to the try-out. My guess is they are still waiting to see what Esteban can do but at the end of the day they are going to have to get an insurance policy in case one of Floyd/Danks/Contreras wear down (or someone gets hurt). Floyd and Count have both thrown innings so less concern there about not being able to handle the workload and more about them tiring or being less effective as the season goes on. Danks has not thrown a ton of innings in any one season and he'll hit career highs this year so the Sox are going to have to be careful and try to ease his workload as the season goes on (remember how he wore down last year). I think Danks wearing down also had to do with the scouting reports getting out on him, and he couldn't fool anybody with his 3 pitches anymore. Now he has 4 and there's a big, big difference in the type of pitcher he is. Was his ERA under 3 at the beginning of July last year? I don't recall him even being close.
  24. Range factor, zone rating, RZR, etc. don't tell me about FPCT and # of errors. And Gold Gloves are a completely useless metric to judge somebody by.
  25. I'm one of the biggest Uribe haters around, but as long as Alexei is starting, I have no issues whatsoever with him being here.
