  1. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Plz tell me you dont mean Uribe is the best defensive infielder in the organization. Hell, even if he said Uribe was one of the best defensive infielders in the league, it's still pretty hard to argue that's a crazy thing to say.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) I'd trade Joe Crede, Orlando Cabrera, Brian Anderson, and Paul Konerko to the Mets for Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes, Billy Wagner, and David Wright. Good trade for both teams. The Sox improve a ton both now and in the future while the Mets finally receive a worthy excuse for playing such disappointing baseball. Seriously though, a couple of nice additions that should come cheap and in order of my preference: 1. Ramon Vazquez of TX as a Crede back-up. He's having a nice year and can play all over the place. 2. Rich Aurilia of SF as a back-up for Crede. He can play 1B and 3B. 3. Ron Mahay of KC as a third LHP. He can come in early or late for an inning or two or as a specialist. I didn't realize you were joking at first, I was sitting here wondering what I was about to say.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) Obama has said that Free Trade isnt necessarily a BAD thing, the problem is the imbalance of it. We import way more than we export and we import products there once made here... we export the jobs to import the product. that is Obama's key criticism of free trade. I guess balancing free trade wouldnt exactly make it FREE, but that's a semantical point in the end. Obama went WAY overboard trying to out-do Hillary on NAFTA a few months back (he's admitted it now). Now Canada is just kind of chuckling, like are they serious? Do they really want to go there? At the same time, I know what he's trying to say and I agree, but then he says other things that make me scratch my head. Like he talks about the Korean FTA and how he opposes it because the auto imports/exports is heavily imbalanced in favor of Korea, but the part he's apparently missing... that's the point of the FTA in the first place, to correct this! I really hope it's just campaign rhetoric.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) I don't think the whole B-12 shot thing and the Mitchell report did anything to help him there. How would you feel if you paid about $12 million a year to a guy who turned up in the Mitchell report? I'm pretty apathetic about the whole thing anymore. The fact that the Mitchell report was the tip of the iceberg we'll never see, did it have any impact on anything? Not really, Tejada never got suspended or anything, and he's still pretty productive. Plus they still love Roberts here who was also in the Mitchell report and admitted steroid use, albeit once. Regardless Tejada brought them Luke Scott, who they're in love with, and a handful of other players, so they should be thanking him.
  5. Free trade is a tricky thing you have to address carefully. Obama kind of takes it to an extreme and he makes it sound like he doesn't know what he's talking about. McCain just kind of carries the banner of "yeahhhhhhhhhh OMFG trade trade trade all of it's good."
  6. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) I agree. Hopefully McCain won't comment and the whole thing will just fade away. I don't think McCain has commented has he? He usually doesn't. He wouldn't have anything to gain if he did.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) well obviously, his show is editorial I mean that I don't take him seriously.
  8. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I saw a Dem spokesman say the Obama camp gave Clark talking points before he went on the air with CBS. There's nothing wrong with the talking points themselves and what he was saying. That's why this whole thing is a god damn joke. There's all this fake outrage at something that they know never happened, it's all so scripted (Granted the Democrats do the exact same thing). They seized on that one line and acted like that's all he said, and he intended it to insult or belittle McCain. Um, no.
  9. Pleaaaaaaaase sign Brand. Whatever it takes. I know they're gonna have to dump some salary though. But Brand would have a Pau Gasol effect on this team (and Brand > Gasol). I realize I'm probably just daydreaming but still.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Then again with Jermaine Dye, it worked out pretty well... True enough but the Sox already have Orlando Cabrera, who is more or less just as good although isn't as good of a leadoff hitter. The Dye signing was different. The net gain of speed in the lineup wouldn't really be worth it (considering OC would be gone) and the injury baggage would come with.
  11. BTW I have no interest in Furcal, it would be great and all, but the last time we signed a guy with injury questions (Erstad) it didn't work out so well. I'd rather re-sign Cabrera if we were going to do something other than Ramirez-Richar in '09.
  12. The O's have zero talent at SS. I was at the Astros-O's game a couple weeks ago and they booed Tejada when he came to bat, I don't know why, it's not like he ever did anything to hurt Baltimore.
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) no he didn't at all. but Obama decided he'd rather "save face" than to have his surrogate's back. spineless. Obama takes a political hit no matter what he does, which is bulls***. This is the part about campaigns and elections I really hate.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) Has Gen. Clark actually gone outside that? I wasn't really talking about Clark so much. I'm actually defending Clark.
  15. Great game by everyone except Crede. I love Crede but lately I can't tell the difference between him and the ironically-named Josh Fields out there.
  16. Only one more out needed guys, settle down edit: nevermind.
  17. Haha, DJ really called that one didn't he? "Peralta is due to have a soft hit ball here" (proceeds to hit a rocket to deep left on the next pitch)
  18. Crede, my god. Airmailed it back to 1st. This is just eerie now, Crede has just been awful at 3B this year, I'm not sure what to think.
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Oberman on Republicans is as objective as Coulter is on democrats. Olbermann makes me laugh if nothing else. My wife watches him but I don't watch him when I want to see real news.
  20. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) What Clark said was almost verbatim to what several others have said on blogs, interveiws, etc. It has already become unofficial talking points, so I would have to disagree with you and say that I believe that Clark fits the very definition of an Obama surrogate. The question is, how long until he also gets thrown under the bus like everyone else. Surrogate in the sense that he's a Democrat and wants to see a Democrat get elected maybe but it's not like everything he says can or should be attributed to Obama any more than what prominent Republicans say being attributed to McCain.
  21. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Shouldn't have thrown it...NO. FRIGGIN. CHANCE. That was on Gavin. On Gavin how? I mean, he struck the batter out. The fact that Alexei didn't move to the bag sooner makes Hall look dumb, it's on both of them really.
  22. There goes Floyd's QS. Hopefully it doesn't matter.
  23. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) Who was he throwing that to? Alexei should've been ready for that throw, he had a brain fart IMO.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) I really hate Jhonny...
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Now this truly is Swift Boat part 2. McCain's military records are out there. Go ahead and peruse them. But its utter B.S. to say that his whole thing is (have pity on my, I was a POW". That's as much B.S., if not more so, than the Swifties. McCain was a war pilot, and put his ass on the line. I've also seen actual footage of the man leaping from a plane, across a burning flight deck, to then help the crew try to put out a fire on the Forestall. You want to ask if McCain has foreign policy credentials, or if his military service gives him command experience, go ahead. Those are valid and prescient points to make. But your post here is just garbage, IMO. I agree in principle with asking how his military service translates into qualification, command experience or whatever (it's not automatic contrary to popular belief, and this is where Wesley Clark was going) or the fact that being a POW, outside of respect, doesn't really add anything. But going outside of that is just cheap.
