  1. I saw the stat, if you're not correct you're pretty close. That they win games when they hit HRs is not surprising, that's the "live" stat. Take a look at the "die" stat though (not sure what it is) and it's just plain abysmal. The Sox are explosive when they're on, but literally non-competitive when they don't hit home runs.
  2. QUOTE (spiffalicious @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 07:28 AM) Floyd is pitching tonight, so Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Contreras, and Vazquez. So Vazquez should pitch on the 3rd. Holy s*** I missed tonight's game. I should've known b/c I had Buehrle and Danks back-to-back. That helps though, thanks. I was hoping I could see either Buehrle or Danks pitch, I haven't seen either one of them pitch live but I've seen the other 3 and most of the bullpen by now. Maybe I can sneak off and catch a Buehrle start while I'm there.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Generally, if Joe Morgan says something, I literally believe the exact opposite of what he is saying to be true. He doesn't feel that walks at the top of the order are a good thing and he's rather have someone up there because he's fast. He said Carlos Guillen was going to be a gold glove 1Bman (and I'm pretty sure he made an error that night) and the next week he'd been moved over to 3B. +1 What's ironic is that Joe Morgan was an ideal top of the order hitter and if he was playing for the Sox right now he would be leading off... because he drew tons of walks. When he retired they didn't really look at things like a career OBP of .392, they just would look at his career average of .271 and shrug, even though that probably sets him over some other second basemen.
  4. Can someone tell me the current order of the Sox pitching rotation? It's changed several times and it's confusing. Starting from Buehrle on Sunday I've got... Buehrle Danks Contreras Vazquez? Floyd? Trying to figure out who will be pitching when I get to town and go to the game on the 3rd.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) PG Rose SG Thabo (with BG off the bench) SF Deng PF Brand C Noah That's a team in the playoffs no doubt, and pending Rose's development, that team could be DAMN good. I would absolutely love that team. If the Bulls managed to get Brand with Hinrich/Gooden (doubtful), that lineup there (Hughes in the mix too, who knows about that guy) can eventually compete with Boston and Detroit. That'd be one of the best defenses in the league, easily.
  6. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) You see similar posts around here when the Cubs beat the Sox. Such is the life of a fan base. True, granted, but you don't see that many posts about the Cubs finishing off their lattes before they can make out with their boyfriends in front of national TV cameras, which would be about the equivalent type of post.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Possibly. I heard he'd only accept a trade to Miami, or else he wants to stay in LA. We'd probably have to offer them TT, Gordon, and Hinrich- plus, maybe a first rounder in the future. I might consider that trade, it changes the dynamic of the team a little too much IMO. Although Deng at the 3 and Brand at the 4 would be pretty sweet, I'd miss all the Rose-Thomas alley-oops, and I'm not a big Larry Hughes fan so I'd be leery of getting rid of both Hinrich and Gordon (he is only here because his bad contract is better than Wallace's bad contract).
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 11:26 PM) If they keep this up I don't see how you can really argue against it, they are up there. But it's hard to go against the late 80's/early 90's A's with Eckersley, Honeycutt, and Gene Nelson, and the 1990 Reds with the nasty boys. Great, now I will have 2+ hours of uncontrollable fantasizing about Janet Jackson.
  9. lol, that ad started ok cuz I thought he was going after him on issues but it ended up really stupid. It looked like something you'd see on the Daily Show or Colbert Report, but then you see "Paid for by John McCain 2008"
  10. The Twins are like an obnoxious rabid dog that you can't seem to get rid of, always seems to be in your way wherever you go. Hopefully someone can get a shotgun, take them out back, and put them out of their misery.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) Wow, the quality of posts in that NSBB forum after tonights loss is pretty damn low. I love that everyone is pulling out drug/job jokes. You just got swept and are in a 4 game losing streak. STFU. I'm from Englewood, but I bet I make twice as much money as half of them FWIW. I laugh whenever a Cubs fan pulls that one out on me.
  12. Actually there are times when I think Joe Morgan is a flaming moron. Hell of a player but sometimes he says some of the dumbest things on air and I really am left scratching my head.
  13. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) I was early in the game, they had time to get back into it. I edited that post
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) In Lou's defense...that was BS he got tossed. Complete bush league IMO......... Yeah... that was just kinda more insult to injury IMO. edit: I missed him actually getting tossed, I thought he got tossed on that first DP when Cedeno or whoever it was was obviously safe, I left the room right after that
  15. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) I seem to remember a few posters saying we should enjoy that last Dodgers win, because it would be the last time we were in first. Is that right? The ignore function is a beautiful thing, it makes threads so much easier to read.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) I would love if thome just went the other way. I'm cool with him hitting it here too, when he does it
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) It looked like brian knew that'd be a ball before the release? Was he just taking no matter what? Yes, it's pretty common to stand still on a 3-0 count, a lot of guys do it on a 0-0 count too (OC comes to mind)
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) The theory on why Brian gets such limited at bats is that he's a communist. Then Balta added on "sexy blond", which has been a given for years. Well, Ozzie IS from Venezuela after all
  19. I love how ESPN just plain talked over that Quentin HR and missed it completely.
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Look at the crap team he pitched for. The fact that he has never won > 15 games means absolutely nothing. Curt Schilling won a whopping 9 games once when he had a 3.19 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. Then he had a similar season 2 years later, but only won 15 games even though he struck out 300 and had 268.7 IP. He played for the Phillies when they were terrible. So, yeah, bottom line is that wins by a pitcher really don't mean anything, at all, especially as a measurement of something for a short period of time.
  21. In fairness to Taveras he's hitting pretty well below expectations atm (granted, in 2007 he was probably playing over his head too). But if he's going to hit like he is now, the hell with that, I'd rather just have Jerry Owens called up (and I will take Owens over Wise easily too).
  22. Yeah it's bewildering to me why people are on Swisher's case right now. I could see if he wasn't hitting but to not look past his season batting average is just lazy. The Swisher we've seen lately is the guy we traded for.
  23. I'm not really worried about either Contreras or Vazquez yet. For a while we had 4 guys pitching like an ace and Mark Buehrle sucking a little, but now Danks is still really good, Buehrle's mostly back to being Buehrle, Floyd's struggling with consistency a bit but nothing too alarming yet, and what we have left is Vazquez and Contreras. Vazquez is what he is but he's had an awful month and his ERA has gone up by a full point, and he hasn't had a QS since May 31. He's had control issues lately but even still, his K:BB ratio is better than 3 to 1 so if I had to guess, I would say that's going to correct itself pretty soon. Contreras, basically nobody expected him to be pitching like an All-Star, and it was really a question of whether he could keep that up, or for how long. If his ERA is in the mid 4's it's not really a problem. If it stays in the 3's, then that's great.
  24. I know I say this a lot but pitchers don't "win" games, Javy did not win the game for us yesterday even if he gets a W. His start gave us only a fair chance at winning, not a good one.
