  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) I believe you are thinking of Davidson. Yes. Brain fart. Davidson's not doing much worth talking about in Charlotte right now though.
  2. Why aren't the Sox using Erik Johnson? Serious question because I really don't know (not trying to pile on Danks).
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ May 3, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) I like the Northern Iowa pick most, he may be a complete slow turtle, but Donatell loves that body type. I kind of am a Pace apologist. Emery talked a lot about process but didn't seem to actually reform our processes. Pace seems to be creating organizational unity and buy-in, which even if it swings and misses can pivot easier. I love getting Kwiatkowski because it's so ridiculous now to assume you'll have your starters playing even 16 games. We saw what happened last year "OMG Jeffrey, Royal, White!" The Dline and Linebackers are now full of a bunch of different looks. It is getting closer. That's my reaction to the Floyd pick. That reminds me of the year the Chiefs drafted Dontari Poe. I remember them being mocked for reaching and he did nothing his rookie year buried on the depth chart. Nooooobody questions that pick now. Poe is a monster. They knew what they saw. I think a lot of fans look at the draft and expect everyone drafted to be instant impact guys, and that's the exception, guys don't come out dominating like Randy Moss and Jevon Kearse, they take time to get coached up and adjust to the game. That said, the Bears have had 2 offseasons under this GM/coach so the standard now should be, at a minimum, relevance in playoff discussions come Thanksgiving or so.
  4. Was Anderson the guy a lot of people thought should've made the roster out of ST? I can't for the life of me remember who that person was, lol
  5. I'm not a Ryan Pace apologist (I learned that lesson the hard way) and I don't give him the benefit of the doubt on anything, but I liked his approach to the draft this year. It's impossible, and completely pointless, to make too much about drafts right after they happen, but they addressed (most of) their needs and got good value for them all with some extra picks. I'd say their big needs going in, in order, were: Pass rush (5 technique, DE, I don't really care where it came from): This is what the Floyd pick was addressing, as well as Bullard in the 3rd Safety (Bush) TE LB (Kwiatkoski) CB (Hall) QB (Raiders had other plans for Cook, but Hoyer is fine) The Bears front 7 is going to be vastly different from last year. The linebacker play was downright horrible last year and the anemic pass rush made the secondary look worse than it was. The roster wasn't ready to run Fangio's defense yet. They got probably twice as many pieces now.
  6. Yeah the Browns still have more picks in 2017 somehow. And probably still won't be very good this year.
  7. I was all, "f*** a smartwatch, they're stupid" then I started using S Health like "wow this is really cool..." so I went out and got a Gear S2. Had it for 2 weeks, then lost it in the parking lot of my martial arts school. Still owe half the money on it. f***.
  8. This team has genuine energy that just wasn't there the past two years. I don't think it's been any one thing, but Frazier's presence is definitely noticeable, and Eaton is far more comfortable in right field. Sale is Sale. I mean. Yeah.
  9. I had 5 tickets to Sunday's Little League Day game in Baltimore, but they cancelled the parade due to rain. I ended up not going (something I've never done) because my wife was not eager to go in the cold and drizzle and also because I was a little too efficient with the disposal of the beer in my house Saturday night.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Hoping this was ITs version of not going to sox games until they started playing well. Probably.
  11. The Browns have to have gotten a few good players, by sheer volume. Every team drafts busts in every draft, but when you have twice as many chances as most other teams, you're gonna get some of them right even by accident. Now do the Browns know what to do with those players? Open question.
  12. There's really no difference between Danks's fastball and his changeup... the fastball comes out 87, 88, the changeup comes out 86, and he really has no command on the pitches. The Orioles announcers were talking about Danks trying to use trickery by throwing changeups before his fastball because he threw a couple at 86 and 87, and I was thinking "no, if he wanted to throw a real fastball he would have. He can't."
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 2, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) I don't get why they released Matt Slauson. It's not like they were up against the cap. Slauson was pretty good last year. Now you just handed the job to a rookie. At least them battle it out. Bears left side of the line is now Leno and Whitehair. The best explanation I've seen given is that they wanted smaller, quicker players to play in their zone blocking scheme and Slauson wasn't the best fit for that. I still don't necessarily understand it personally.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) *checks ban filters* You guys have been getting comfortable around here without me.
  15. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 3, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) This is your boss. I trapped you. Meet me in my office at the end of the day. *looks up in cubicle* You're not at your desk...
  16. Mo'ne Davis would easily be the best reliever on the Sox right now, she'd probably close.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) Has there ever been an example in recent history of an African-American officer shooting an unarmed white 20 year-old in a majority white area or suburb, for ostensibly walking in the middle of the road/blocking traffic? I don't know off-hand, but I'm sure it has, and that's f***ed up too. This is less about race for me and more about accountability. MAYBE Brown actually did go for the cop's gun and the cop was actually in danger, in which case his use of lethal force was authorized. How do we know though? We have a guy who has a clear interest in trying to justify it that way so that's what he'll say automatically, and he also has a system designed to back him up. On the other hand we have a dead guy. That's why I think cameras on the dash and/or the lapel are the way to go. Can't tell me they can't afford that but they can afford armored vehicles and other s*** in a town of 21,000.
  18. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) Wtf are you talking about lol. Ive always found you to be a pretty straight shooter and if I preface something by saying Im not directing it at anyone then thats the truth. I didnt even read this whole thread, the thought came to me while listening to two people argue about this over the weekend. Im essentially condemning both sides as well for being close minded so its weird that you got defensive about what I said. I can assure you that I couldnt care less about offending people on the internet and if I want to call someone out for saying something stupid I will. For example my first post genuinely had nothing to do with whatever youve posted in this thread but your reaction to it and use of the term "dont question my intelligence" is indeed stupid. edit: MY BAD I'M STUPID AND THAT REPLY WASN'T INTENDED FOR YOU RAGEEEEEE -The Ferguson police wouldn't tell anything about why Brown was shot. Doing this way back on Saturday or Sunday of last week would've gone a long way towards avoiding this entirely, but -The Ferguson PD's version of events makes no sense - if the officer stopping him in the street makes no sense why'd they release the video if it had nothing to do with the shooting? -Even if he had stolen the cigars, or robbed the store, that doesn't explain how and why he was shot (and to a lot of people - "he was a thug and a criminal" is enough of an explanation for why he should be dead - how much of a model citizen do you have to be to not be shot?) -The police exacerbated the protests, making it up as they went along and violating people's constitutional rights. -I'm very uncomfortable with local police having military equipment and not knowing how to use it -and yes, a great deal of commentary I've seen online has been inherently racist and inflammatory. This is all part of a general problem I have with overly aggressive police, which is difficult for anyone to understand who isn't black and lived in a major city. That's another topic for another day, the war on drugs, etc. etc. etc. The police in the area I live aren't like that, I've never had a DWB type incident and they treat me with respect and like a human being when they want something from me instead of grabbing me and throwing me against the hood of their car and screaming at me. Have that happen to you enough times and it takes a toll.
  19. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) This isnt directed at anyone in this thread, but in general I find it pretty interesting to see peoples stances on situations like this and how hypocritical they can be. It seems one side is saying that cops are bad and arent really willing to consider that even though there are some bad cops that not all of them do things like this. On the other side people are saying everyone protesting is bad because of what theyre hearing and seeing about all the looting going on. Both sides are unfairly lumping a larger group of people together to justify what theyre doing. It will be interesting to see what the 2nd autopsy finds or what other evidence comes out. As of now it looks like the cop should probably be charged with murder and that Michael Brown was a scumbag. As most other people have said barring the officer feeling his life was threatened there is no justification for shooting an unarmed kid, absolutely none. but a lot of choices that Brown made that put him in that position were his own fault. Both Brown and the cop are at fault here. I also hope they can find and arrest some of these looters too. People that will trash local businesses and steal from stores in their community in the name of justice are huge pieces of s***. I have never at any point said the bolded part, anywhere, but you saw fit to make that judgment (don't bother insulting my intelligence by saying I wasn't included in that statement either).
  20. I'm sorry if I point out when people make clear, obvious, in-your-face derogatory comments towards black people, using occasions like this (not necessarily in this thread, of which I haven't read all 19 pages, but if that shoe fits, lace it on up) to just come out and say how they really feel, and it offends you. Just search the #ferguson hashtag on Twitter for a couple thousand examples of what I mean
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) You made similar comments in the Trayvon Martin thread. It's pretty obvious you go around looking to be offended. It's pretty obvious you can go f*** yourself.
  22. If the Sox moved, what probably happened is Chicago and/or Illinois wouldn't put up enough cash for a publicly financed stadium and some other municipality f***ed over their taxpayers (like Cobb County just did) while the ownership group pocketed all the revenue, in which case in no way would I support that. What would be the point of that?
  23. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) You just pointing out those two things tells us a lot about you and you arent much better than the people youre criticizing. Oh really? That is literally the only post I've made in this thread, and you know how I feel? This is why I find discussing things like this with most people a waste of time. Exhibit A. If I told you, are you even going to listen?
