QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) Between Eldred or Owens, I have to go with Eldred. Strike outs will be bad, but, fact is, he'll still likely outproduce Jerry. That said, I'll throw another name out there... David Cook. At first I thought you were being sarcastic and talking about the guy who won American Idol... even still, that'd be a better suggestion than some of the things I read on this board.

Prevent defense, lol that's a good one. But 10 debates, has that ever been done before?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) Is Edwards back in the VP fold?? ABC News' Mary Bruce reports: 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards this morning left open the possibility of a second run for the position. "I'd take anything he [Obama] asked me to think about seriously," Edwards explained in a "This Week" interview with George Stephanopoulos. Heh, this reminds me of this morning when they were showing how Tim Russert would ask all these politicians if they were running for president, and they all were saying "no." Of course they did later.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) I think last night was just one of those games, right? And given what happened against a s*** Rockies pitcher, maybe the debacle in Detroit wasn't all due to the great Tigers pitching like some people here tried to argue? But people will jump down your throat when you dare suggest the Sox are "back to normal." Because, god knows, a team getting hot for a couple games is a much better indicator of their hitting ability than the previous 2 months of the season. There was not a single person here arguing or even suggesting that Tigers pitching was good, that was just you seeing things through doom and gloom glasses, as always. The closest thing to whatever it is you're trying to say is when I was saying Verlander is an ace who is starting to come around despite his rough outings this season, and every now and again he will shut the Sox down (he has done it before), but you weren't trying to hear that.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) lol. Colorado used up 10 years worth of breaks last season when they won all those games at the end of last season. They were lucky last year and wasnt really that good and it shows this year. They are a bad team. They're not 27-41 bad.
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Well we had our chances, and here we are dropping a series at home to a BAD Colorado team. Kudos team Not to excuse our s***y offense but Colorado has just been unlucky this year, and when they get the bad breaks to swing back to normal they will be in the NL playoff picture.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) There's only like one or two Sox hitters you could want up in this situation. Well, here comes one of them.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) PH QUENTIN!!!!! Quentin is actually not that good against lefties, he has work to do there

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) Um....why are we giving up outs when we are down 2?!? Yeah seriously.

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 04:24 AM) Not looking at any RISP stats, or any stats at all actually, I get the impression that Uribe has come up big in important situations over the years. In order to get me to feel this way, you have to, well, come up big in important situations. I'm not easily impressed. Maybe laziness or a lacksidaisical attitude can account for what we often see. What was Freddie's forte? Big Game pitcher. Did that work out for us? Well, I guess. He's not ever gonna sport a .300 average, but if everyone on your team batted .300, what would be the point of holding playoffs or a World Series? Again, not looking at stats, I think Uribe has had a .250-.260 average at years end sometime in the past. 20+ homers, and in the range of 70-80 RBI. Someone who sucks as you put it doesn't have 70-80 RBI, 20+ homers. If you disagree, then I beg of you, please explain this to me. Or maybe he just got lucky 70-80 times, and his bat tripped and fell right on the screws of a baseball thrown at him 20+ times. F***ing four leaf clovers... He's capable, light a fire named Alexei under his ass, and I think he'll be a bit more selective with what he swings at. Labeling him as a .200 hitter would be based on this year, and in that case, we're f***ed, because Nick Swisher is a .210 hitter, Paulie- .210, Thome- .200, and OCab has a solid 40 point fall from grace. Also, Floyd, Danks, Contreras and even Linebrink should have a helluva time duking it out for Cy Young, etc, etc. Not to mention, f*** Babe Ruth, they might as well name some candy after Quentin, oh wait, the law of averages seems to have caught up with him. Is it too late to cancel the statues many have dedicated in his likeness? I'll check with the Detroit Tigers of '05 to make sure... Not ripping on you, cause again, I like seeing Taz in cartoons, not White Sox games, but we've won with guys like Timo Perez, Willie Harris, Damaso Marte, and the afore mentioned Juan Uribe- who should just quit his job because he flat out sucks and he talks to his bats too... The Uribe hatred is exaggerated. The way he's made out over here would make one think that planting a tree in his stead at home plate would better suit our "offense" cause maybe once in a while it would draw a walk (only for the next batter to wipe it out with a DP) or not swing at the same pitch that fooled 100% of the rest of the lineup. Besides, I don't care if he bats .000000001. is enough to solidify him as my 9 hitter, and Valentin has nothing on it. Cherry-pick his stats all you want, but there is no way Juan Uribe should be starting over Alexei Ramirez right now, which is what you seem to be implying. Uribe is a .230 hitter and has not had a OBP of over .300 since 2005. Alexei is probably going to be much, much better than that (without a really drastic dropoff in power numbers either).

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 02:56 AM) Oh for Christ's sake, a guy has 12 bad games and suddenly he's chopped liver. Get f***ing real. ^^ this I mean, Jermaine Dye is batting 5th, where else are you going to put a .807 OPS player? 8th? 9th??

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 02:24 AM) Before I say this let it be known that I love seeing Ramirez at second at the moment. You go with your hot hitters, end of discussion. That said, he's proven s***. Chris Shelton lit MLB pitchers up like a fat doob laced with premium unleaded for longer than Ramirez has hit .290 and he plays baseball in towns with population I'm tired of seeing our #3 hitter K or fly out on a regular basis, and then throw hissy fits when he's done doing so. Ditto the 4-5-6 going 0-456. Why the lack of passion over that? The attitude here toward Uribe is exactly the same as it was toward Contreras during 07 and the winter, and don't those people look f***ing foolish... The Contreras comparison makes it sound an awful lot like you're suggesting that Uribe will suddenly turn into something he's not. Ramirez has proven s***, true, and Uribe has. What has Uribe proven? That he sucks, and he can be counted on to barely hit .200 and run into a few big hits here and there.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) Lets not argue here, the triangle of Thome, Konerko, and Swish have all equally sucked. However, that triangle has slowly been turning into a square with Dye not doing much anymore. Haha, Dye has one quiet series where he doesn't do anything and you say "he's not doing much anymore." If you're going to do that you'd be doing just as well (and look just as silly) by throwing Carlos Quentin in there and saying that square is turning into a pentagon.

QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) Can we clear this Dobbs/immigration issue up for me here? Is Dobbs anti-immigrant or anti illegal immigrant? Do we have quotes from him where he has come down on legal immigrants? I just wanted to know because I have been hearing these "Dobbs hates immigrants" sentiments more lately. Thx, SFF Illegal immigrants, it's just that his stance on it is uber-conservative and he even makes a good number of conservatives look soft by comparison. He spends quite a bit of time railing about how terrible illegal immigration is (and the immigrants themselves, more or less by extension) and he is pretty much opposed to anything short of rounding them all back up, sending them back to Mexico, and sealing off Mexico with a giant plastic dome to prevent any more from ever coming here. I exaggerate, but only a little.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) Tonight they pretty much all were s***, including AJP cause of his inability to throw the ball. Why bother throwing the ball when the runner is already 70 feet towards the base?

QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) The sox biggest off season calculation was signing uribe for 4.5 million. It was clearly a misstep by KW. Not really, at the time of the deadline for that we had no other SS unless we wanted to risk putting Andy Gonzalez there indefinitely. Bringing back Uribe was a no-brainer, as much as it sucks the way it's unfolded after that.
-
I dunno, I don't really have a problem with Uribe playing 2 days in a row, but any more than that and I'll be kinda pissed. I laughed out loud when he fell down while striking out though. That's just so URIBE.
-
On another note, I thought that ball Anderson jacked to the warning track in the 8th or whenever it was was gone.

QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) I have never seen a team collectively all shut down at the same time. In addition, I have been calling to drop quentin from the three spot for the last week. it is clearly time, in addition its time to move AJ from the 2 spot as well. Time to shake this crap up. Get the missle back in and bat him second. AJ hasn't done anything so far to warrant being taken out of the 2 spot. He's been fine there. Not counting today's 2 hits, he's hitting .390 in June with a OPS over 900. In fact I will even go so far as to say that dropping him in the order right now would be a pretty dumb thing to do.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Johnny Danks sure as hell deserves more credit than his 4-4 record shows. Great pitching tonight by him. This offense hates John Danks.

I'm kind of upset that I wasted that 2 1/2 hours of my life.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) He wasn't tossed. He's still in. Good, before the commercial break I saw West give the ejection symbol. Glad to know there is sanity after all.

QUOTE (shawnhillegas @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) I honestly don't know if I've ever seen anything that absurd. It was worse than when Dye got thrown out for something almost as weak a year or so ago.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) What happened? Quentin strikes out on a check swing, gets mad that he struck out to end the inning, and he throws his bat at the ground in frustration. Ump suddenly tosses him.
-
Wow, what a BS thing to do. Quentin thrown out for absolutely no reason at all.
