QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) Do I actually have to give an intelligent, well-thought out respone with significant value to a person who actually thinks MSNBC is anywhere near un-baised? lmao, he didn't even say MSNBC is unbiased, you're just making stuff up. If you read the post you quoted he said on a scale of 1-10 (implying that 5 was balanced) he said it was a 3 or a 3.5 (biased left). Later he went on to say more or less the same thing in another post, except a little more forcefully.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) lol, yeah keep drinking that koolaid. That was an intelligent, well-thought out response with significant value

QUOTE (Cowch @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Weren't we clutch a couple days ago? Where was the clutch situation? There was only one RISP that I know of and he was batted in. Plus it's only been 3 innings.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) That first part of what you said can go for just about everyone this election cycle. I changed it to fit what I have heard several times from the Obama camp so far this year. Next we will all be discussing the meaning of 'IS' again. It's the same thing as Obama's "bitter" comments, IMO. A very poor choice of words but while it's kinda silly to call Obama an "elitist" or whatever the hell for saying that, it's BS to act like McCain doesn't care about the troops. Plus it's not going to change anyone's vote by itself (unless they are stupid, and they shouldn't be voting in the first place). It's just a comment that, by itself, really gets on my nerves on a personal level. I know what he meant. But I also know what he said.
-
I really wish McCain would've chosen his words more carefully. I know what he wanted to say, but that's not what he said, and people trying to apologize for him isn't going to change that. I also haven't noted him saying that's not what he meant to say, that he's only having his words parsed and taken out of context (they're really not, I heard both the question and the full answer). As a vet myself, one of the things that really irks me (and one of the reasons I got out, actually) is being taken for granted by people who really should know better. Being treated like a number instead of a person. I don't even want special recognition, but dammit, don't be so dismissive and give that whole "oh, but they volunteered" line.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) Just out of curiosity, for the folks here, anyone...is there a level at which you start thinking a windfall tax makes sense? As the price of oil keeps going up, the value of the holdings of every oil company will just keep going up, and thus their profits will just keep going up and up and up. I totally get the economics issue response, that you're penalizing a set of companies for earning too much money and just on the fact of it that's a bad economic strategy, but at some point you can't just have the entire U.S. economy be "oil companies", can you? The oil companies have to pay for the higher-priced crude themselves, so they're really not making as much money as everybody assumes they are. Plus I tend to agree with the supply-siders when they say they'd just raise their prices more to offset the costs of the tax. Kind of simliar to why I thought the gas tax holiday idea was so dumb (demand would just reset the difference in price and all that happens is more profits for oil companies) and why I thought Hillary's interpretation of it was doubly dumb (oil companies gonna pay for the lapse in taxes, lol ok).

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) I was pretty disgusted with Charlie Gibson's story on ABC news about the recent Democrat windfall tax bill on the news the other night. The whole story was a slam on Republicans who "don't want to help Americans deal with high gas prices" or some such nonsense. Windfall tax for oil companies is a really dumb idea, IMO.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Take the challenge and watch 24 hours. I dont think there is a "left of far right" host on the network. Heck, most of them are smug righties who lack any ability to see past their own nose. I used to have it blaring in my face 12 hours a day for an entire year when I was overseas. 9 pm to 9 am, so in Eastern time that would've been 1 pm to 1 am. Do you mean the personalities or the actual anchors? Most of the anchors are what you'd see anywhere else, they just report news and interest stories, and aren't particularly biased one way or another. Greta van Susteren has been called a liberal by FNC apologists, but she's not, she just reports on legal stories (I will take her over Nancy Grace though). Shepard Smith falls into that category too. They pass off Alan Colmes as a "hard-hitting liberal" but he is really a moderate. The bias really comes out in the show's hosts. MSNBC is the same, with Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann types. Now, contrast that to, say, CNN... Larry King, Wolf Blitzer (who is kind of useless but thats not the point), Anderson Cooper, all they do is report and interview guests. Sometimes they just have the guests screaming at each other but whatever.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) The team is better with Brian Anderson in CF and Swish at 1B than with a Fields variation in the line up. Agreed.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) kinda OT, but while I was looking for something online, I came across several websites dedicated to make Fox News look bad, and kept crying bias and such. It's funny though, as these nuts probably watch MSNBC (the most biased station of them all) all day. I know Fox News has it's biases, every station does. But Fox so far has been the most fair, and that's not just me saying that, many democratic officials have said that as well. Just no. Sorry. MSNBC is definitely biased to the left (Olbermann is the biggest Bush-bashing Obama cheerleader out there), but there is no way in hell there is anything balanced or unbiased about Fox. Watch Hannity for 5 minutes and then tell me that. Some of the stuff I see is borderline slander hidden under the guise of "freedom of the press."

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) Why did Dhue leave? I miss her... I myself am a fan Meghan Kelly. She didn't renew her contract.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) Hell, I'd rather have Hill around... she's far better looking than Coultergeist and insHannity Laurie Dhue doesn't work for Fox anymore... but she was SMOKING. Malkin is decent looking but I just can't stand to look at her when her lips are flapping.

Rogers is not a good pitcher. For that reason I don't have a very good feeling about this game.
-
FWIW Fox cancelled E.D. Hill's show over the "terrorist fist jab" comment. But you know that's a pretty empty token firing because Hannity, who says much worse on a daily basis, still has a show, and anybody who ever brings Ann Coulter on as a guest for any reason will never even so much as get reprimanded. Basically E.D. Hill is Cedric Benson. "You're not good enough for us to be having to deal with this from you, if you were better, it'd be ok."

Is that Michelle Malkin?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Until he signs, nothing is official. I was about to type a response here and creatively rick roll everyone but it'd be just my luck that someone clicks it at work and gets themselves fired.

Yeah, he was safe, that wasn't even close. That was as bad as the time where they called him out stealing 2nd and he was safe.

Damn that was a nice rocket from Cabrera

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) Sox starting pitching had not looked good the last 3 games. Time to get Vazquez out of there, and preserve his arm. He just needs one more out... but he's facing the heart of the order.
