At least the offense was still hitting. If that keeps up, we're still a playoff team.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Ozzie and Jeff Cox were awful tonight...we can only hope they both learned something and won't repeat what they did. Learning isn't really one of Ozzie's strong points IMO. But if he recognizes how stupid of a game he managed, that's enough by me.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) This is bad managing tonight. Whats the purpose of leaving him in to get destroyed. No I think I agree with the strategic decision to not bring in a reliever until 3 hits are allowed and a run scores. It's not managing by the book. Right?

Contreras... is back... out...

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Jose should have been taken out last inning. Pitches are up and he is giving up runs. We have strong pen and should use it. We still have chance, if we can stop the bleeding now It's still winnable. They just need to pull their heads out of their asses.

Sigh, just doesn't look like the winning streak's going to continue right now.
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) im honestly fuming over that decision still....its seriously inexcusable and it gave detroit all the momentum It's not the first time Ozzie's done it this year either.

Is it just me or is it the higher ERA, the less runs we score? A pitcher with an ERA over 10 could probably no-hit us. But then we will light up somebody like Verlander.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) I've been trying to make my decisions without acknowledging the crazies. I won't allow my view of McCain to be dictated by the far right Christian Coalition nutbags, since I don't think McCain will do much for them, and I won't allow my view of Obama to be skewed by the crazy Obamatons. I also liked Obama's speech on the economy, and he did in fact get into more specifics than McCain. That was good to see. Obama had some good ideas. He also has some bad ones though, like another round of rebates, for example. It's not a horribly bad idea in and of itself, but where in the hell is the money going to come from?

I dunno, while I don't disagree with that, I think we as Americans tend to overrate the level of dissent within the countries whose governments we don't get along with and that all they need is a spark, and there will be their equivalent of the Berlin Wall coming down.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) Note that I said individual rights. Not just 1st amendment. You're talking about civil liberties methinks. I don't think the 1st amendment is worthy of inclusion on this list because nobody seems to disagree about it, ever. Besides the occasional baseless and nonsensical "libs/cons respect their right to free speech as long as they agree with you."

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Really, you wouldn't put Baltimore in that group? They lost Ogden, Clayton was a big disappointment last year, Mason's up and down, and their qb group is even more questionable than the Bears'. And you forgot Dallas... Mark my words - New England is going to be legendary bad.
-
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Atlanta could be pretty bad also, but Michael Turner could rush for 1500 yards this season, and they have Roddy White. Depends on the QB situation. Behind whose line? Is the NFL going to let them borrow players?

You know, I've always wondered how MLB catchers felt about getting shaken off. I notice that some pitchers do it sometimes and the catchers don't seem to care (Vazquez), and other pitchers just take the sign and deal (Buehrle comes to mind).

Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him
lostfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Alpha I don't know how many people buy the papers because of Mariotti (it doesn't exactly work like that though, it's more just getting publicity and having your name out there), but I can tell you, like NSS was getting at, that I don't buy the paper because of Mariotti, and I don't watch ATH either. I used to read it every day faithfully when I lived in Chicago. Now I ignore it entirely, and read the Trib when I can. -
It's kind of hard to choose 5, I had to cut out other stuff I thought was important to try and condense it, like Middle East policy. I chose: Iraq War Energy Policy Environmental policy (on accident, not sure why I picked that one) Homeland Security Deficit/nat'l debt (more or less includes gov't spending levels, and the Iraq war) Stuff I just don't care about or think gets too much attention: Abortion - tired of hearing about it. Please leave it alone and quit using it as a wedge Gay Marriage - seriously, doesn't even register on my radar as something that matters 2nd amendment rights - unless somebody is going to do something stupid, like ban guns. Otherwise this always gets overblown by gun nuts Tax rates - I swear to God, there is a percentage of people in this country that is convinced we could set our tax rates at 8% and somehow not only still function as a government, but actually increase revenue. When I was in 6th grade my friend told me there was no such thing as the tax fairy. I was devastated

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) Just for DBAHO. SF isn't very good, but you can at least make a case that, well, Trent Dilfer. So I didn't include them, but they could well belong in that group, too. SF is terrible, for a while there they were on pace to be a historically bad offense for either points scored or yardage, I forget. Worse than the 2005 Bears offense, even. A case could be made that Alex Smith is the worst starting QB in the NFL. People get so wrapped up in ripping on Grossman that they seem to forget about legitimately terrible QBs like Smith or Tarvaris Jackson. Put Smith's career #'s up next to Grossman's... it isn't even close actually. It was funny to me that Shaun Hill, basically a nobody, comes in and does everything Smith couldn't do, without the excuses.

Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him
lostfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) HOw do we know that HE sells papers? Is there anyone that actually buys the paper BECAUSE of Jay? When he has his 'vacation' a while back, did readership decline? We get the SunTimes here at work, but only because the Trib is a pain in the ass to read format-wise. I disagree that he is actually a seller of papers, and that if he were to leave, the gains would be more than offset by the few minions who would follow him elsewhere. And if he takes Slezak with him, it would be a bonus! That is like rule 1 of journalism. Controversy sells papers/gets ratings, manufactured or otherwise. Just about everybody hates Mariotti, but everybody sho'nuff still reads his articles and talks about them and how much they hate him. Personally whenever somebody posts some trash he writes I scroll over it or avoid the thread unless it's a thread ripping on him. He is basically the media's equivalent of a troll, and he's good at what he does. -
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I think that's a tough sell. KC, Buffalo, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, and Baltimore are all pretty awful. SF raises its hand. AHAHAHAHA I just noticed you tossed Dallas in there
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) And lol if actually believe it was the scouts call on drafting KWjr. How naive can you be? Well, if you were a GM and you had a son who was an athlete in the sport you managed in, would you really want to go out of your way to bring that potential drama to your team?

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 01:29 AM) yeah i actually get pissed when i think about what could have been. He was my favorite player growing up, I read a lot of biographies on him haha .. but seeing those injuries all the time in Cincin i just wish we could have seen what he would have been healthy. Damn. I don't get pissed, I come closer to crying actually.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) Swish has sucked for the majority of the season so Iam not going to get to excited right now. This might just be one of those Uribe like hot streaks and when its done it gets real bad again. Juan Uribe has a history of being a horrible offensive player. Nick Swisher does not.

Comical trade proposal from a NY Post writer involving the Sox
lostfan replied to wbicker2424's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) we trade the up and coming Danks for the disaster that is Ian Kennedy. Makes perfect sense. For no reason other than NYY needs a LHP. Oh and let's give them our most consistent lefty reliever in Matt Thornton too. Gotcha. edit: someone wrote this gem: "How about you send Mariano Rivera to the White Sox for Juan Uribe. You get a better defensive shortstop than you have now, and we get another middle reliever." -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 08:14 AM) Must.resist.joke. do it do it do it
