QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) A bit of advice, it has happened here since day one! On WSI you get suspended/banned for even thinking about saying things like that.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) If the Sox keep hitting in Detroit, I'll be amazed and happy. Isn't it a hitter's nightmare of a park? Keep it up, Swish! For most people not named the Chicago White Sox, yeah. Crede hot streak + Crede at Comerica = disruption in the space-time continuum. There is a good chance Crede breaks the all-time HR record tonight

Bulls to hire Vinny Del Negro as coach

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) Kirk will look very bad, he cant shoot. The Bulls need to package him and get rid of his poor shooting ass. He has been the most over hyped Bull in history, bigger than Brad Sellers. Don't get me wrong, I think Hinrich blows personally. But he's a SG that's been playing out of position as a PG, and as a result he looked terrible running the offense, dribbling around aimlessly for 17 seconds before heaving up a shot and hitting the lower left side of the backboard. So I'm inclined to think that playing the 1 and always being assigned to players like Wade had an effect on his shooting. It's kind of wishful thinking, but if he became even an "ok" shooter, drafting Rose would give us a pretty good backcourt. -

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) Are you kidding me?? He has ZERO coaching experience. NONE at all. Not even as an assistant coach. Not even junior high or YMCA or a park league...ZERO! pax is terrible. I miss jerry krause... UGH I just threw up in my mouth a little. Love him or hate him, Pax cannot have credit taken away from him for cleaning up the catastrophic mess that was left by Krause after he turned a once-historically good franchise into the laughingstock of the NBA. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 07:18 AM) Here? on SoxTalk?!? [feigns disbelief] The hell you say!! Pssst... I saw a guy overreact on this site once the other day seriesly

No, I honestly can say I never wanted them "off the team" and I was never that worried about either of them. I thought Cabrera was a downgrade from Uribe defensively, and his whole whining about the error when he's gotten some pretty favorable scoring all year rubbed me the wrong way, but I was never worried about his slow start. I was never really worried about Swisher either, it was frustrating to watch, but the guy has a track record and he's only 27. People on this board were going way overboard with it and quite frankly it started getting annoying, there were times when I just hit the X and let the panic-fests run their courses for a while.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) Taveras would be much better than Owens due to the fact they are about on par speed wise (Owens might be a tick faster, but Taveras has the better technique, IMO), and Taveras can actually play D and he has a very strong arm. If he'd come cheap, I'd much rather have him on the bench than Owens. I think you have this odd ailment that doesn't allow you to see past the fact that Owens has no power and has a noodle arm. There is nothing wrong with his range or his glove in the OF so I really don't know why you keep saying that, one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. His range factor was 2.65 as a CF, his zone rating was .896. Aaron Rowand put up nearly identical stats to that last year (2.64, .889) and he had a pretty damn good defensive year, actually won a Gold Glove for what that's worth. For comparison's sake Brian Anderson in '06 was 2.87 and .883. Now let's compare that to, say, Darin Erstad, who everyone crapped on but was about an average CF - 2.57, .927 for '07. Ok for comparison's sake here let's use Barry Bonds, a genuinely terrible fielder. Do the stats back that up? Yup... 1.75, .813 (seriously that is awful). Bottom line: hate Jerry Owens all you want for any of the reasons he gives, but being a bad fielder is not one of them.

I grew up reading the Sun-Times. But I gave up on it for good about a year ago. -
Comical trade proposal from a NY Post writer involving the Sox

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) That debate is kind of old, but suffice it to say I don't give a damn what you think about it. He was under the limit, all he did was speed. You can say all you want about previous acts, patterns -- bull. About 95% of the people I've ever been friends with, including those who've never seen the inside of a jail, have done that or more. It was a nothing offense, and I think Tank got jobbed. It's not really about what I think. If it was, I would've at least waited until the BAC test came back because it wouldn't have hurt anything. But it doesn't matter, he created his own situation. That's why he no longer plays in Chicago, and he knows it.
-
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) even though I don't believe Tank got a fair shake ?????????????????????????????? Tank got his fair shakes all the way up until he got out of prison (and I had his back the whole way), and then right after he gets out he goes to a party, has like 10 beers (he's 300 lbs, it's got to be at least that) and then barely misses the legal limit - good chance he would've blown over if he didn't buy himself that 40 minutes or so in refusing the breathalyzer and getting the blood test. Horrible decision-making, and it shows that he hadn't learned a thing after all that, and nobody to blame but himself.

I am not going to get ahead of myself, but I have a WS '05 banner hanging up in the corner of my basement (where I am now), and the other wall of the corner is empty. Another gray WS 08 banner would look pretty nice up there, no? I would rather it be a SB '06 portrait though. My wife got me something like that for Christmas, a bunch of Bears players in various poses, with 55, 96, 33, 76, 8, 30, 54, and 57 all on it. If you're as big of a Bears fan as me, you recognize those numbers and don't need to be told their names.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) It could be very seriously argued that Boras cost Jordan a ton of money last week. The reason the Sox snagged him so late was due to signability issues fueled by Scott... Very good point... ...even if they have to pay him more than his draft status is worth this could be a win/win situation for the Sox and both Danks Bros.
-
I dunno, from a player's standpoint this doesn't really make sense. If there is one thing you're absolutely sure about with Boras it's that you'll be rolling in cash. Granted, it's not all about the cash with some players but still. I guess the Danks Bros. are pretty confident in themselves.

I was about to say "Paul can redeem himself here" but I didn't want to jinx.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) i dont but it sounds familiar...was he the ref the bulls always complained about? I believe it was Game 5 of the '94 Eastern semifinals against the Knicks, when the Bulls were up by one and he called a phantom foul against Pippen. That pretty much lost the Bulls the game.

Anybody remember Hue Hollins?

QUOTE (Cowch @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Who would have thought Swish would be carrying us in any game a week ago? I don't necessarily know about carrying, but I never was particuarly concerned about Swish. And all the hand-wringing about how such a horrible acquisition he was had started getting on my nerves, so I'd skip over threads and whatnot. He'll be fine.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) first thing you should look at is WHIP when evaluating a pitcher Not necessarily - some pitchers are very good at inducing DPs, or otherwise just keeping the lineup out of any meaningful rhythm. So you have to look at ERA and WHIP both.
