  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) WHIP is also very telling, and is probably the most meaningful stat for a reliever. Agreed, I wish there was a reliable stat for inherited runners allowed to score. It would make me so mad last year when Bukvich would come in last year, allow the runner on 2nd and 3rd to score on the first pitch, then allow no earned runs of his own so he's got something like a 3.63 ERA by the time he's done... ugh.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) ERA+ is also good since it's league and ballpark adjusted I look at that after I look at WHIP and K:BB ratio.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) unfortunately people tend to look at w-l when it comes to all-star Which pisses me off. A W-L record tells you NOTHING about a pitcher's individual performance during a season. Personally the first thing I look at is ERA, it doesn't tell you everything but as a stat it probably tells you the most by itself. When I'm judging who I pick for the All-Star game I don't even look at W-L record.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) I believe 4. Only 3 have a better ERA then Jose, though. One of them is Contreras, I know... but the reason I ask that is because I'm a little surprised there's not been more All-Star buzz about him. It's not like he came otu of nowhere - he was a first round pick, after all.
  5. I am lazy and too busy to look... how many SPs in the AL have a ERA better than Danks?
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) Yeah, I think we've seen firsthand those mofos can develop players. Mauer is one hell of a player. Is there any talk of taking him from behind the plate? It probably is too early in his career for that though. With that kind of offensive production out of a C, I wouldn't touch it.
  7. Whatever happens, I just don't want to sacrifice the gritty defense. That was my favorite thing about Skiles. Being able to shut down guys like Dwyane Wade. If we draft Rose I wonder what Hinrich will look like as a SG?
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) Poreda. That's what I thought. He's the ridiculously tall one, right?
  9. You know, the fact that we not only trade with China, but basically support their economy even to the point where it hurts our own pretty much makes any argument about not wanting to deal with a country for moral reasons kind of hypocritical.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) What, nobody wants to touch this? It's not that, it's just the topic is kind of a dead horse. I actually think the blatant hypocrisy in the Islamic world is hilarious. OMG you drew a cartoon about our prophet and called him a terrorist, in protest I will burn your embassy and kill a couple of innocent Westerners for good measure. That'll show them to stereotype us as terrorists!
  11. So we're looking at a run-and-gun type offense next year then?
  12. Which one of the pitchers in our farm is the lefty that was clocked at 99 once?
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) If you're talking all 5 tools...then I'd take Alexei even over B.A., because of the speed. BA might well win on defense, I like what BA's bringing to the table with the bat now but it's hard to argue with the numbers Alexei is putting up, but the speed certainly seems to go for the missile. What Anderson lacks in speed he makes up for in power. Granted, Anderson has a fair amount of speed and Alexei has a fair amount of power, but while Alexei is plenty fast, he doesn't have 30-35 HR power that Anderson has (again, this is assuming Anderson was hitting to his full potential).
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Well...here's the thing...how do you define talent? Jim Thome is the most talented if you judge talent by how far he hits the ball and nothing else. Quentin right now seems to be our most talented overall player with the bat. But Alexei is solid with the bat and also is probably our best athlete I'd guess...seems to be both strong and very quick...Quentin couldn't outrun Alexei if his life depended on it. I define talent by the five tools and how good a player could be if he lived up to his max potential on all 5 (along with overall athletic ability). On the Sox that's probably either Brian Anderson or Alexei Ramirez. Note, potential and being a good baseball player are 2 different things. There are numerous cases of "talented" ballplayers completely flaming out or becoming marginal MLB players, or complete nobodies becoming solid All-Stars.
  15. It's funny to laugh at the candidates when they mess up but it's even funnier to watch the die-hard supporters jump all over the other candidate and defend theirs when they do the same thing. The only time it's really an issue to me is in a case like Hillary, where she flat-out fabricated a story and repeated it several times. But the miscues, like "57 states" are nothing and deserve no attention outside of a chuckle.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) And he's had some good swings. If he and Swisher are both on the way out of there funks, it will be huge for the offense. Swisher is really looking good too lately. If that happens, I am ready to say this is a playoff-caliber team.
  17. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) i always seem to find all the Fields hate posts coming from you .... It isn't really hate, it's just the truth. Joe right now is far ahead of what Fields was last year (albeit it's assumed Fields will be better). The only thing that's really a factor in Fields's favor is Crede's erratic throws this year, but that's kind of out of character for Crede.
  18. Oh my, that curveball from Buehrle was DISGUSTING.
  19. Very quietly, Crede is only slightly behind the pace of Carlos Quentin's production.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) haha missed that. BA compared him to a Cuban player that SF signed recently for $2.1 million. So if the Sox want this guy be prepared to sign him for over $2 million. Highly doubt the Sox make an attempt. 2 million? That is nothing. A tiny drop in the bucket.
  21. I'm going to attempt a translation of this article, it's a little inaccurate but you'll get the point:
  22. Interesting, there doesn't really seem to be any kind of pattern to it. I guess the more populated the area the more earmarks get used. Earmarks are only worth about 15 billion? That's even less than I thought.
  23. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) Mr. Mayor? I just watched the video btw since I was at work, god that was awful, she barely got it halfway there lol. It's no damn wonder, she just tried to flip it while standing still. She shoulda had someone give her a quick 30-second lesson in throwing mechanics
  24. Finally a game on WGN that I can watch.
