  1. Man, I would love if the Olympics came to Chicago in my lifetime. Who knows when the next time the city will get it is?
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) I don't think he saw 9/11 coming, and unlike some others, I don't think he was planning an invasion of Iraq either. Assuming he wasn't planning it beforehand, let's say the thought got in his mind in early 2002 for argument's sake... once he got the idea, he ran with it and got extreme tunnel vision.
  3. Well Bush also had a GOP-dominated Congress that let him do whatever he wanted. You can even tell, there's a pretty stark contrast between the first 6 years of his presidency and his last 2. He used to walk and talk like a badass, like "cmon I dare you to do something - that's right, you can't." He's a lot more subdued now. McCain won't have that luxury.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) And on the flip side, McCain will probably end it sooner than people think. I've said it before - I think ultimately, the actual result of the War in Iraq will not be as different between these two candidates as their messages portrayed. McCain doesn't want to be in Iraq for 100 years, that's a deliberate distortion. My only problem with that statement was the fact that it was a fallacy to begin with (i.e., it doesn't answer the question of "how long" and ignores the nature of the war itself) and comparing Iraq to other post-conflict occupations we've had is kind of silly.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) I think it should if nothing else cause one to pay a lot more attention to the quality of his VP pick than you would otherwise. Meh, the VP is supposed to be qualified anyway. That being said... thank God nothing happened to Bush while he was in office because the alternative makes me cringe.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) They'll just accept it as small, personal donations from the people that work for lobbyists and PACS, that's all. Just like he says he won't take money from big business! No s***, sherlock, nobody can. But you sure will take a private donation from the CEO, CFO and so on. That's never going to change - I don't really think that's a big deal anyway. Are people that work for big businesses not supposed to be politically active? That's their right IMO.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) Well, think about it for a moment. For both sides, the most 'energetic' bunches are the fringe elements (neocons and ultralibs), and they vote the most in the primaries, so of course most of the time the candidate will be on the fringe. The main elections is where they usually try to get a little closer to the middle without pissing off their crazies. Agreed - which is why I don't take Obama at face value when he talks about the war - he knows full well he can't end it right away but he could never say that in front of an antiwar crowd.
  8. I don't see McCain's age as an issue.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) Its probably over the line to say, but I have yet to talk to a serious Obama supporter who could see fault in him. I am 100% serious. Present ...this site is divided sharply between red and blue I've noticed. To those on the red side my shade of purple still looks blue.
  10. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:55 AM) If you can't see what this team could become, then the doom and gloom you've got pumping through your veins is scary If Thome, Konerko, and Swisher weren't all struggling to stay above the Mendoza line, the team would be a juggernaut simply because of the pitching. Instead we have 1/3 of our lineup as a massive black hole, and they're all guys who should be producing a ton of runs together.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) From what I can tell that just doesn't appear to be true. 0-1 record against them, 15 saves, 3.04 ERA. Well, you can add a blown save to that.
  12. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) You never know. Some forums have rules. I took me a while to be accepted here. I am assuming the administrators have certain rules. I was just giving you a hard time
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) The fact he's only had two games where he's allowed more than 2 runs is amazing. Yeah, that cutter has really worked wonders for his pitch arsenal. Whereas he couldn't paint the corners last year and would get figured out, he can do it with ease now and keep hitters off balance. Hopefully he takes more cues from Buehrle and figures out how to be more efficent though, then he will be ridiculous.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) The starting pitching has bailed out this team so often already that they deserve to get bailed out a few dozen times. Agreed 100%
  15. So I just checked the line, apparently Danks was just 1 out short of a QS... I guess I'll take it. Coulda done without the whole loading the bases deal though.
  16. AJ needs to walk so that Quentin can get his routine grand slam.
  17. Get banned for posting links to hot chicks? What kind of fascist hellhole do you think this place is?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) I know I could spend all night here getting nitpicked apart in the details and I know, I know, it is different now that Obama is doing it... But the BIG PICTURE here is that I think it is hilarious how the excuses are getting made for him here. This is the exact same thing that the Democrats have been complaining about for almost 8 years now, and that is corporate America having too much influence over the White House. I don't see how bringing in someone who has been involved in many of the samethings that Obama himself has rallied the troops against the Republicans out on the campaign trail, is "change we deserve", but I guess that is just me. The funniest part about it is that personally I don't have a problem with it. I prefer my officials to have corporate experience, as it aids them in understanding the business cycles and macro-economics. I have a problem with the two faced campaign that Obama is running here. I'd have much more respect for the guy if he actually put his money where his mouth is. Personally I don't see how an administration could run Washington without having Washington insiders at your side. Whether people hate them or not, at some point something's got to give.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Totally. Hannity was on FOX yesterday blabbing about how McCain needs to connect with 'true conservatives' like him. No Hannity, he should not pander to wacko neo-cons like you. The neo-con big spending Republican needs to die out. I think people seriously overrate the "influence" of the far right in this election. Unless those people are complete idiots they will vote for McCain anyway because even if they can't stand him, they couldn't possibly want Obama, and they know that. They won't be taking any cues from the sour-grapes Hillary supporters that say they will vote for McCain (and just a hunch, but I don't think most of those people will be putting their money where their mouth is btw). McCain needs to be focusing on the center, because that's who will win this election. If he goes too far in trying to "prove" he's a conservative, no matter how far he tries to distance himself from Bush he'll lose that base, and he will get pounded in November.
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) All yesterday, people were saying that Walker deserves no credit for having done anything with CQ. To me, a guy who has shown great talent at the minors, yet HASNT produced at the majors..... that's the type of guy who is aided by a hitting coach. And a source for praise given to said hitting coach. That, plus CQ's having switched from NL to AL. Pitchers he has not seen, etc. Quentin produced at the majors in his rookie season, quite a bit. He didn't start putting up crappy numbers until he got hurt.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) If Fox is biased for having Hannity on everyday, that makes MSNBC biased for having Olbermann on everyday. That's almost what I just said. Olbermann is like Obama's cheerleader. I really HATE the new trend in personality-driven journalism.
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Well, I wouldnt go THAT far. If I had to rank them numerically (1 being far left, 10 being far right), I'd put MSNBC at 2.5 and Fox News at 9.5. I cant get a read on CNN, but I think about a 4. As for ABC News, I never watch it, no idea. Geez, Fox isn't THAT bad. MSNBC is pretty biased though, I'd say about as much as Fox. I honestly don't think CNN is as biased as people say. Then again, having Sean Hannity on your network everyday is automatic super-conservative points.
  23. I just take issue with the fact that for all the complaining people do (justifiably so, to a certain degree) about the "race card" being played, the "reverse race" card gets played what seems like every other day in here even more frivolously. I mean, really now - let's just ignore the fact that if Obama does get elected that it'll be the most significant milestone for race relations since the Emancipation Proclamation since it doesn't have anything to do with his ability to govern - the Obama camp is not race baiting, and black people who are enthusiastic about it happening are not racist. That's just so grating to me.
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) And they are not put out by Obama Jesus. This is quoted from your post, mind you. And I don't read things like that. Honestly the only place I ever see things like that - the Obama camp playing the whole "if you're white and don't vote for Obama it's because you're racist" card - is on conservative blogs (Michelle Malkin, etc). The fact that there are actually people that don't vote for him based on his skin color notwithstanding.
  25. Is it just me or have the WGN games been scarce lately?
