  1. QUOTE (rafacosta @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Swisher sucks...f***! lol, can he at least get another at-bat in first?
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) thome is mr. king of pulling a grounder to the right side...if he doesnt come through here im gonna be upset He's been hitting up the middle and opposite field a little more often than usual lately.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) To not give up a run in an inning in which he had 2 outs and nobody on. And if he leaves one out over the plate by mistake, the result is the same. These things happen. Like I said, if he only allowed a run every 8 outs for the entire season, he'd have an ERA of 3.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 08:08 PM) That was terrible. Why won't Contreras throw over the top and fork balls to Upton? Geez, he's only allowed 1 run in 3 innings so far... over 9 innings that's a 3.00 ERA, what do you expect from the guy?
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 30, 2008 -> 06:54 PM) AJ's atbat in the 3rd inning: case in point Huh? He struck out. So? Players strike out. On the next AB CQ hit into a DP, so do we draw the conclusion that CQ should be demoted or something from that? I don't get it.
  6. Yikes, it sounds like he just made that part up so he could fit this paragraph in the story better. Otherwise good article.
  7. I've always had the impression that people in South Florida just don't care about baseball that much, even in spite of the big Latin population, and that adding 2 expansion teams down there in the 90s was a mistake.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) The question wasnt whether our team is winning, its what to do with Swish, and if AJP is playing better in the 2 hole or further down the order. The biggest change has been Q in the 3 hole as his RBI count is above how many games they've played. Its an illusion that AJ is better in the 2 hole, he is in fact been a better hitter further down the order. Breaking down the stats like that is misleading. AJ had a nice streak where he was the best hitter in baseball while he was hitting further down in the order and then he predictably cooled off. He could just as easily have another hot streak in the 2 hole, much like he could've just as easily never had the hot streak. He's not a dramatically different hitter in either spot. Swisher, on the other hand, isn't going to suddenly become a .800-.900 OPS player again just because he gets put in the 2 hole. If he is getting on base at that high .300s clip again I think it's pretty much common thinking that he belongs at the top of the order, but that's not happening.
  9. I turned in a blank ballot with just CQ's name on it. I don't really care about the rest.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:32 AM) They protested all kinds of post shooting stuff at NIU too, it's just sickening. Whatever you do, don't touch the mother f***ers, they make their money on angry people abusing them, who they sue in turn. Also on people actually paying attention to them in the first place
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 29, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) Well, you can't take anything he says with a grain of salt because just a while ago he was one of the president's supporters. And from what I've heard, it is that his editor "edited" a lot of the book. Is some of it true? Probably, but that "truth" has been stretched out several times over, IMO. I also think it is telling that he sprints to go on the far left media stations like MSNBC, but Fox news? Never... His motivations are one thing, but the content in the book is altogether different.
  12. I'm assuming this is as far as he'll go, but even with the bases loaded jam early on in the game, dominant outing by Danks. 8 strikeouts to 1 walk, one run allowed.
  13. Man that's easy. In the beginning, war coverage is fascinating, and people are glued to their TVs. Ratings. Revenue. Profits.
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 29, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) I hit one when i was in 7th grade. She kept chasing me home for a week straight, and finally one day I got tired of running. So I stopped, she caught up to me and slugged me, knocked me down. I got up and slugged her back, then walked home. Got suspended for a week, but at the time, it felt good. FYI, she was bigger than me (looked like a football player!), and did I mention I was in 7th grade? When I was little, I think in the 3rd grade, I was with my next door neighbor who was in the same grade as me in the alley behind my house picking blackberries. She picks one up out of my bowl and eats it with this grin on her face, so I picked one out of her bowl and do the same thing. Then she slaps me, pretty hard too. Without really thinking I slap her back, more as a reaction than anything else (I was always told to not hit other boys, let alone girls). She runs back to my house with crocodile tears to tell my mom and get me in trouble, conversation went something like this: Her: He slapped me! My mom: Really? You slapped her? Me: Yes. My mom: Why? Me: Because she slapped me. My mom: Ok, why? Her: He took a berry out of my bowl and ate it after I took one out of his. My mom: And that's a reason to slap him because...? Her: He shouldn't have slapped me, I'm a girl. My mom: Oh please. That's nonsense, it was your own fault and you deserved to get slapped. You're lucky I'm not going to do it too so think about what you're doing next time. Now get out of my house. My mom rules.
  15. Eh, I don't see anywhere that Athomeboy made a generalization like that except to be sarcastic and talk about how ridiculous the whole thing is.
  16. Honestly, both the far left and the far right are pretty easy to generalize. They all tend to think and act the same, and if I was reading an argument somewhere I could probably predict a response/reaction with about 95% accuracy.
  17. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 29, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) I would hardly consider a controversial political blogger the voice of the conservative right. Im sure if someone posted something some liberal blogger said that was controversial and then claimed it as an outcry of the liberal left you would be the first one to discredit it. Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Malkin all have large followings in this country and they represent a pretty sizable portion of the population.
  18. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 29, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) thread timeline: post article from Huffington Post saying "conservatives" want ad removed because scarf looks arab people respond in disagreement post link from a website called crooks and liars showing McCains daughter wearing similar scarf and calling her a terrorist sympathizer wait for anyone to say anything negative about Obama, especially anything mentioning terrorism, to discredit source... Excellent Sarcasm.
  19. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 29, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) I've thought about this scenario before and have come up with this. A woman gets the first two shots, if she attempts a third one she has no intention of stopping. I'll stop her some way. I won't stand there and take a beating from anyone. Basically... and if we're talking about a tough, athletic woman, the rules change completely. The general rule of thumb I think we can all agree on is that a guy should never, ever initiate violence under almost any circumstances, but no woman should be given a free pass to beat on a man just because she's a woman. A man has the right to defend himself.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 29, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) This guy does a good job of debunking Clinton's popular vote outcry. Interesting read. Too bad the MSM had done almost nothing to discount her case. The MSM doesn't so much "not debunk" her as it does just ignore or marginalize her.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 29, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) Don't read too much into a rehab assignment. My guess is Uribe is our 2B and Ramirez is the utilityman again. Uribe has more power than Alexei and hits for about the same average. Alexei has my vote to stay with the big team though. Alexei's average is skewed downward by his first 6 weeks or so of sporadic at-bats where he was completely overmatched. When he's fully adjusted, whenever that is, I have to imagine his average will dwarf Uribe's, and he'll probably have a higher OPS too (not that that's hard to do at all).
  22. Eh, the only ones I really wouldn't want my kids with are Bill and Hillary. Chelsea isn't bad though.
  23. Ok, NOW I'll start paying attention to this thread. Baseball season has actually started, and records and batting averages are meaningful. That being said... the Sox are in first place.
