QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) The entire Aldridge situation hurts big time. But, if we draft Rose it would be interesting to see what Tyrus can become with a true PG. I still scratch my head at the Aldridge trade. However, it could still pay dividends, and the deadline to do so hasn't happened yet. It appears Tyrus has been suffering from Brian Anderson syndrome. Wickedly talented, but immature. Considering BA finally got over that, I still have hope that Tyrus does too.

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) I hated it at the time and of course I do now. Eh... personally I was dying to get rid of him at the time, I guess I was wrong there and we just traded him a year too soon. I didn't think Wallace was going to be completely worthless, and the general feeling was that the Bulls were contenders in the East (they were, sort of) now that they had a big man. Looking back, I'm not sure what Pax could've done differently. We had NY's lottery pick still... I guess draft Aldridge. Which we did. Sigh.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) Lostfan, your posts about living by the planes are kind of cool. You say, 'not that bad,' house doesn't shake 'that much.' You sound like the kind of person who can make the best of any situation. But reading your posts closely it sounds like a lot of people would go crazy with the planes. I bet some of your neighbors have freaked out and wanted to get out? Correct or no? The most I've heard is from a couple people complaining in the homeowner's association meetigns and asking what it would take to get soundproof windows. My thought on that (I didn't say it out loud) is that it's unreasonable to expect the HA to cover something like that - if it's even possible - and if they did, they'd have to raise the fees by a healthy amount. If it really bothers somebody that bad, they should just move IMO, but I think it's only a few people that really are. Truth be told, when you're inside, it muffles most of the sound anyway, so it doesn't block out TV, phone and whatnot. Now, when I was a kid, we used to live by train tracks in the south suburbs right near a crossing. THAT was annoying. At least once or twice a day the whistle would start blowing and drown out any other noise in the house.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 20, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) I think the Obama camp will make clinton drop the popularly vote argument in exchange for this MI / FL thing getting hammered out. Anyone with half a brain can tell that the FL and MI votes are NOT legit. Award the delegates, btu the vote numbers are VERY flawed. I bet if MI was done again today, Clinton wins 55-45, if not less. She'd win by less than she bet "uncommitted" I'm not even sure Hillary would win MI.

I really like Drew Gooden. -
QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2008 -> 07:29 AM) I'd like to see Gordon gone ONLY if we sign and trade him(for better value than the chandler trade) . If a deal is not available then you need to re-sign him. Chandler was more of a salary dump.

D'Antoni has to be kicking himself in the ass right now. He could've ended up walking into a cake job.

I wonder what Tyrus Thomas could do if he has a PG who doesn't dribble the ball aimlessly for 15 seconds before randomly tossing it up and having it land in an opposing player's hands. -

So I think I'm a little gay for Carlos now. Who else will admit it? -
I don't really think it matters what Bush thinks right now. Then again, if he wants a Republican in office for the next term, Bush should just come out and endorse Obama... then people will avoid him like the plague. :

Haha I looked up at the Gameday lineup and I saw Cabrera batting 9th and thought WTF, but then I noticed I was looking at the Indians lineup. : -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) But that doesn't really mean anything. If they're self-sufficient on energy, it means that they're not exporting energy like they were a few years ago as their demand has gone up. If you're saying net demand has gone up for the whole world the last few years, and Russia's been a part of that I agree. At the same time though Russia's always been a major industrialized nation so I'd say they've been less of a factor than India and China.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 20, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) It must be horrible when you first move in getting used to that. Does the house shake all the time? I'd think it'd be really tough to sell the homes around that area. Nah the house doesn't really shake that much. It's more an annoyance than something that would make you want to live here, and it's not like we live right next to the airport or anything. As long as you're inside the house it's not that bad. It just so happens that you can look up and they're right there. Matter of fact one just flew over before I typed this. lol.

Russia is mostly self-sufficient on energy if I'm not mistaken. It's more China and India.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 20, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) I was merely pointing out that if anger is a concern, there is anger on both sides. The question wasn't specifically directed at you btw, just the general direction the conversation was about to go.
-
QUOTE (Mplssoxfan @ May 20, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) I honestly don't know how anyone could go through a campaign for President without getting angry at some point. This.

If I had not just put in new counters and cabinets, I'd be trying to start this process right now.

I'm not overly concerned with the actual cost vs. ROI in and of itself. I know that it's not really that cost-effective of a thing to do, and honestly I think I'd do better to replace my furnace with a more energy-efficient model first to lower my energy bills. I figure my house will probably cost $15k to do with an inverter to do with solar shingles and net metering (39 states do that and Maryland is one of them) and this is what I see with the limited research I've been doing: -$3000 estimate of the roof replacement I'm going to have to do anyway in a couple years -$2000 grant from the MD state government (I'd have to apply, and wait a couple months) -$2000 local county property tax credit for the year I install (estimation) -$2000 federal income tax credit ...So, figuring the cost of my roof itself in there, that is $7000 right off the bat that I'd get worth of credits from the state and federal gov't. A lot of people are just simply not aware of the tax grants and credits. For those interested here is a link: http://www.dsireusa.org/ edit: Also the overall effect on your house's equity is outstanding, it's probably better than a kitchen remodel.

I agree with NSS. I can sort of understand why somebody wouldn't want to talk to Iran (although I question how effective our non-diplomacy has actually been). But Cuba? Cmon now.
-
BTW not sure if this fits exactly in the thread but I'm seriously considering putting some solar shingles on my roof or something. It costs a lot of money though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Unless they are all taking delivery of those futures contracts. No. Every speculator has to eventually sell, or they have to figure out what to do with 1000 barrels of oil. Net effect is zero. That "speculators drive the market up" isn't true, no matter how many pundits repeat it. I admit don't know that much about economics. I can understand simple things, like "the gas tax holiday won't work" or "India and China are getting industrialized and they are pushing worldwide demand up" or "printing more currency weakens the dollar." After that I'm kind of a n00b.

I'm in favor of the mild discussion to a degree in the separate threads and carrying off arguments into other threads, but it will be on the posters to do this. Everything I don't want to read or talk about, like the blatantly biased opinion pieces in either thread (unless I see it's biased in favor of my opinion, heh), I ignore it or skip past it.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) With all due respect. No. Not even close. I don't know who is your economics professor, but he is wrong. Is it fair to say that people buying oil futures right now are helping drive the cost up more than it's headed on its own?

^^What does this add to the discussion about John McCain?
