  1. Hawk and DJ have barely said anything about the actual game in progress for the last 30 minutes or so.
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) About 10,000 on my iTunes, but usually no more than 1000 on my ipod. I have 2, one I keep loaded with classical music only, and the other I reload to suit my whims. I also have a brand new 8GB Zune I am looking to get rid of. Too much hassle to get it to work with my itunes stuff. I wish I would've seen this post before I went out and bought one a week ago.
  3. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) He had a good week today.
  4. Oh damn I forgot Uribe was sitting today and I saw Alexei on that DP, I was like damn Uribe has lost a lot of weight.
  5. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) Bet ya AJ gets a rousing welcome from the SF faithful. Perfectly on cue.
  6. Meh I can't help but to think that if we called him up right now he would fall flat just like everybody else who gets a quick promotion to MLB, if only for a few months.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ May 16, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) You're jumping to conclusions about what I meant. I wasn't taking a shot at Richar. The fact is he can't help us until he is healthy and he's not going to see game action until almost June 1st. All I meant to do was point out that Owens, after 124 at-bats is hitting squat and probably not going to be the boost to our offense that some people hope he would be. Meanwhile, we have a 2B with a career minor league average of .300 (Getz) and just happens to be hitting .300 again this year in AAA. So... who helps us more right now? Another outfielder who can't hit or a 2B who looks like he can. I was just saying don't get too excited about Getz's stats after a month of AAA ball. I looked deeper and he's never sustained anything like this for that long at the lower levels. He's about an average prospect.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ May 16, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) So, we've got a 2nd base prospect who can lead off hitting .302 with a .360 OBP at Charlotte... with 5 homeruns and an .840 OPS. Sample size... get too excited and jump to the conclusion that Getz is better than Richar and is going to jump into MLB and lead off. I mean when Richar went to Charlotte last year, in about the same number of games he hit .346 with a .956 OPS. Then he had 200 PA's in the majors and did just about the same thing that mostly everyone who has ever been called up to MLB did except a few, and a bunch of people were ready to declare he sucked, but that's another story. I'm also going to add that Luis Terrero is hitting .344 with a .962 OPS right now.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Worm holes. No haven't you ever played Mass Effect? Once we discover the mass relays at the end of this century we'll be able to travel instantly across the galaxy.
  10. Aren't they mostly throwing errors and not fielding errors?
  11. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 16, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) You both missed my point, and mreye inadvertantly helped make it. These kits don't make it much easier to lie about a rape, that I can see. Those links show that it happens now, even without these kits being widely available, and any woman wanting to blackmail someone could just as easily do so before going to the ER. So I don't see why it has anything to do with these kits. Sorry, I thought you were saying that false rape accusations weren't a real concern which you clearly weren't.
  12. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) So, you're imagining women who fake a rape, store the evidence in one of these boxes, and then go to the innocent guy and tell him to cough up the money or else it'll be opened up? That's the only way I can make sense of this... I somewhat doubt that's a real concern... That kind of stuff really happens unfortunately. In my mind it's a couple steps from being as bad as an actual rape, because not only can false accusers ruin a man's life with the stigma of being a rapist (even if he is acquitted and she is found to be lying), they are just making it that much more difficult for actual rape victims to come forward or be believed in some cases. "Women" who lie about being raped for their own personal gain deserve every bit of the punishments they get. However, I think this is a good move and the positives far outweigh any potential downside.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) That's right. It doesn't matter if your fastball is 85 if your change is 75. The greater the difference the more effective the pitches are. The difference in Johan's is like 20 mph which is completely ridiculous. Although it helps that he's a lefty who throws like 95 mph.
  14. I know this is kind of cliche but we are a republic, not a direct democracy. We don't make decisions, we elect people to make those decisions for us. If we don't like said decisions we elect someone else to make different decisions.
  15. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) Like the current congressional approval ratings. I really don't think Congressional approval ratings mean much of anything. First off even though there is a majority of Democrats (for like a year and a half though) there are still 535 of them altogether from all over the place. Secondly, the approval ratings have been low for a while anyway which is why the Dems took the majority in the first place. Since things haven't changed much (i.e., the war has not ended, and the economy is still headed down) the approval ratings are still low. Hypothetically, if the GOP takes control of Congress again, people are still going to be pissed off as long as there's something to be pissed about. They don't care who the majority is. But if everything in the country returns to roses and sunshine the ratings will go back up. It's got very little to do with who was elected in 2006.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) Why? He is actually doing what a legislator should be doing, representing his consituants, instead of his own self-interests. Good for him. Yeah that. I wonder what the superdelegate totals would look like if everyone representing a district or state voted for who their district went with. I'm sure it'd probably favor Obama but it would probably take weight away from population centers at the same time. And just be an even bigger mess than it already is.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) So you're not that handsome? I kid because I can. Well then I guess I am more like you. Unless NSS has something to say about that.
  18. I'm amused by the fact that the thinly-veiled and poorly thought out attempts to smear in those special elections was seen for what it was by the voters.
  19. CC has a point, I have an opinion myself but I haven't chimed in for that reason (although I'm more like NSS72 than BigSqwert). However, if not here, where else are we going to have this discussion or others like it? There's no thread on this latest subject and maybe there should be. And there are other things posted that people want to challenge but don't, and if they do, they get chastised for doing it in the wrong place.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 16, 2008 -> 02:52 AM) Cobb also hit .370 or better 8 times...it's not hard to put up a .440 OBP when you're hitting .370+. Not easy, but not hard. I'd say this is a similar debate as to comparing Bonds to Ruth, although at Cobb's time, average hitters were much, much more prevalent. Considering such, I'd say a .132 IsoOBP is more impressive than a .067. As such, I'd say Henderson putting up a career .401 OBP - as a non-slugger - is more impressive than Cobb's .433 OBP with his .366 career average. I'd say, comparing to today's game, you can dumb Cobb's career average down to .320-.330ish, thus dumbing down his OBP but increasing his slugging percentage to a degree where he wouldn't be hitting leadoff anymore but rather hitting 3rd or even 4th. You say this dismissively, almost as if it's easy to hit .370 and that's not really much of a feat in itself. .370 is an absurdly high batting average to have even once let alone 8 times. Hell even a OBP of .370 by itself is not so bad.
  21. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Omg Thome you are so predictable. Either strikeout or soft grounder to the right side. Don't forget the popup.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) So a JD 3-run bomb would be nice here. So a Thome grand slam would be nice here.
