QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:19 AM) If i said you lost your bearings, do you think I am calling you old? If you say that to me it means I'm lacking in good sense and judgment and/or I'm not conducting myself properly. I have no idea what the big deal is here and no clue how somebody can draw the conclusion that Obama is being "ageist." First off it has to be taken in context what Obama was responding to (McCain's distortion of Obama's position on Hamas, making him out to be a terrorist sympathizer, which Obama was taking offense to when he said that) and secondly, hell, even McCain makes fun of himself for being old.

lol he stated that as fact, as if Griffey is that easy to trade and KW would just dump his big offseason steal and future All-Star who is locked up cheaply for the next few years for another aging slugger, disregarding the fact that the team already has 3 of them and disregarding the fact that the team is loaded with OFs. Haha trade a young OF for an old one, I will sell you my 5 dollar bill for 20 bucks. And as if he was going to trade his 3B of the future for 1 1/2 years of Junior. If either of the 3B's go in a deal like that it would be Crede (the fact that such a deal would be pointless notwithstanding). I mean, I've always had a big mancrush and obsession with Junior that borders on being a little weird, but come the hell on.

Quentin's just been best all-around IMO, now if he could just stop the fluke errors that'd be great. Pitching I'm going with Javy. Floyd and Danks have been great but aside from one bad start and a shaky but not terrible 2008 debut Javy's been dominant out there, picking up where he left off. Danks needs to go deeper in games and eventually he will. It's a little tough picking against Floyd and his multiple no-hit bids though.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 8, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) the MSM was brutal towards Bush I. They even dropped a 'scandal' on him 4 days before an election to help out Clinton. Also, the economic boom had began, as there were large economic gains beginning which the MSM ignored. But yea, I guess the media has an evening factor in the pro-GOP FOX news. And, yes, the MSM totally played up him being sick in Japan. The NY Times and everyone else in the media were in a frenzy. They claimed it showed he shouldn't be president. Time magazine called him a wimp on their cover, which they now acknowledge was a poor journalistic move. So bs journalism has been around way before FOX news. Now there is just right wing crappy journalists on tv, not just left wing crappy journalists. Edit: This in no way is an attempt to defend FOX news and their 24-7 Rev Wright fest. They are just as bad as the left wing media they trash so much on air. Oh, and the far right wing starting attacking Bush I because they didn't like how he worked on the budget with Democrats. A budget which many economists attribute to around 60% of the budget surplus under Clinton. Sometimes being a moderate, competent president, gets you no where. Back then when Bush I was president there was really no such thing as conservative media and that didn't really start happening until about the mid 90s a little after the Republicans took over Congress, so yeah I wouldn't doubt they were harsh towards Bush. I don't really remember though since I was in grade school, but coincidentally I just did a little mini-paper on something like this. For all the people that complain about the liberal media now, it really was liberal then. So now with conservative talk radio and stuff like conservative blogs (and yeah, Fox News) I'd say these days it about evens out, with a slight tilt to the left b/c the newspapers are still pretty liberal. But their influence is fading and electronic media is gaining. But the one thing that's been constant through the years is the ridiculous sensationalism... and that's manifested itself more than anything in this dumb primary process. On a side note I find people always say CNN is one of the worst culprits of being liberally biased but after watching all the major networks and a few international ones I just don't see it. I literally LOL when people tell me the Republican Noise Machine/GOP Mouthpiece Network isn't blatantly slanted right. Any network that gives extensive airtime to Sean Hannity Bill O'Reilly and frequently has guests like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh while attempting to pass off Alan Colmes as a "hard-hitting liberal" to give the appearance of balance is biased by default. Not that I necessarily have a problem with this considering freedom of the press and all but let's just be honest with ourselves, call a spade a spade and stop trying to tell people it's a heart. However.... as far as liberal media, I've been watching MSNBC lately... holy s*** they might as well be the Democratic Cheerleading Network. Keith Olbermann, lol. Maybe that's why I see CNN as moderate.

I'm pretty sure Ozzie is well aware that hitting is the root, stem, and leaf of all this team's problems. Baseball is almost as much a mental game as it is physical, so the last thing the hitters need is even more outside pressure. That being said, for him to say "the hitting is not a problem" is pretty extreme and I'm sure there were other words he could've used (and inability to find words has never been one of Ozzie's shortcomings). If it's not hitting then what the hell is it?

Just saw this breaking news on CNN.com. Not much information yet besides what's posted in the thread title. It's not exactly going to change anything, some other shady figure will just step in his place and business as usual will resume for AQ. But it's good to know we're still on top of things and still capable of dealing some pretty heavy blows even though we've made some pretty bad strategic decisions. edit: link available now, article probably going to be updated again

Just checking up on this game, and ROFL @ Alexei hitting leadoff. Damn we really must be desperate.

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
lostfan replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
This is different from the original position that Obama opposed isn't it? In Florida, I can't see anything short of a revote solving that. -
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 8, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Not sure if these have been posted, but I hadn't seen them yet. The whites are mine!, says Clinton. http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/elec...interview_N.htm I was kind of hoping that Balta was right when he suggested that Clinton is staying in the race for strategic reasons, but I can't believe that any more. Let me add, I understand that rhetoric like this comes out of a campaign. That's fine, and everyone does it. But it shouldn't come from the candidate herself. She's disappointing me more every day. When I read that, what I actually see is "Obama isn't a real candidate, and can't win because all his supporters are limp-wristed latte sippers out of touch with reality and lazy blacks who just vote for him because he's black." Yeah, that may sound like an exaggeration and a straw man, but if you extrapolate the rest of what she says...

Michigan Democratic Delegate Deal - unconfirmed
lostfan replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
When I was watching the news this morning it sounded like they said they were working on a possible deal similar to what you said. They didn't actually say a deal was reached though. -
It also doesn't really help that the 2-party system is so rigid, and every chance they get the Dems and GOP collaborate to make it even more difficult to be taken seriously as anything but a Democrat or a Republican.

Well when Mark Buehrle is the worst pitcher in your rotation, you know it's in good shape.

QUOTE (WillieHarris2 @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) to answer your question yes ive seen the sox play this year and from what i've seen, nick swisher doesnt cut off balls in gaps the way aaron rowand used too (used too aka hes not on the team anymore). i have yet to see swisher cut off a ball in a gap and throw out a guy like i saw from alexi ramierez of all people. quentin has yet to show me that his arm is above average with only 2 assists, which is the same amount as just about every other person in the league or in other words average. last year he only had 2 assists in 76 games i believe The fact that you said Quentin has an average arm would lead me to believe you had a complete lack of knowledge of anything about Quentin. Dude has a cannon and always has. The # of assists he has after one month of baseball should tell you nothing. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 7, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) I thought he was going to clock that dweeb from Deadspin. I kind of was hoping there would be a video of Buzz getting hit by a bus at the end or something though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) i will say this much. I would have bet money that she would have killed Obama in Indiana even two days ago. I can't see WV even being close to the level of competitiveness there was in Indiana though. It's going to be a blowout and so will KY. A completely irrelevant blowout but still.
-
I think the non-McCain votes are mostly symbolic. Hell Ron Paul's support has stayed at a pretty steady level for the most part.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) I'm definately not saying the other candidates and their proxies haven't screwed up at one point or another. The problem with McCain is that he is saying stupid things when no one cares about. Once Hillary is out of the race, that will change. Considering McCain's history of saying dumb things even before this election year, I think that will offset any inevitable slip-ups from Obama or his wife. Unless it's something major like "So yeah this one time I was at a terrorist training camp and made a donation - UH S*** I MEAN I was reading a report on terrorist financing... yeah that's it"

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 7, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Have there been polls in IL for an Obama/McCain election? I would love to see those early potential numbers. Wouldn't that be a major bullet in Obama's gun against Hill's "unelectable" platform if Obama can pull a major state that is historically republican? IIRC, IL has been blue the past 2 elections. I know it was strongly pro-Gore in 2000. The state itself is a red state but it just so happens that 2/3 of its population is the Chicago area and that's one of the most die-hard Democratic areas in the country. So IL is not one of the "in-play" states. It's pretty much assumed that's Obama territory. On the other hand, one of Obama's arguments is that he can win a couple of of the red western states that were heavily in his favor and haven't voted Democrat recently, like Colorado.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) I could see that. There have been a couple of times where she has stuck her foot in her mouth already. She has been much quieter for a while now though. At this point, who hasn't? All 3 of the candidates have done it at some point. And with all the focus on the Democratic primaries and the media mostly ignoring McCain for the time being, could you imagine if it had been Hillary or Obama with one of McCain's major slip-ups? Or if this were the general? It's only as big of a deal as the media makes it out to be.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) I can't believe that seating the FL and MI delegates is being considered. It's a goddamn joke, but you know Hillary will cry until it happens. From the anecdotal bits and pieces I've seen in the internet and heard people talking on syndicated radio, most of the voters in MI seem to get the fact that "it is what it is" and it's not Hillary or Obama's fault that their vote didn't count. But in FL for some reason they are all crying and blaming Obama for it and saying that he created the situation and he's trying to block a revote. lol ok. I guess they don't realize that the rest of the nation stifles laughter every time the words "Florida" and "election" are mentioned together in a sentence.
-
Even with FL and MI that's a tall order for Hillary considering she's not won any of the states with that kind of margin except a handful, and the only ones she'll probably do that with are WV and KY. The Western states are all Obama territory. It's virtually impossible even if FL and MI's delegates are seated.

Indiana / North Carolina primary election thread
lostfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
It was especially funny when they interrupted with the final results, and it had closed 20 points from a 75-25 gap from Gary's votes in favor of Obama to a 55-45 gap when the rest of the county was counted. Which totally invalidates anything he was trying to imply about corruption. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) Those behavioral changes are increasing. Another positive side effect of expensive gas - the SUV craze is crashing. Thank god. I once went on a rant about how dumb I thought single people with big SUVs like Suburbans and Yukons and no real reason to own them were, and how they had no right to complain about how gas prices to this girl I had just recently met. Then she tells me "oh, I have a SUV, but it's not like a Suburban though." It was like some big damn GMC. lol. I said, oh well, I don't take back anything I said.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) You are right it is a big difference. The chance for an inuagural visit is WAY more important than seeing someone speak locally. If you have the means, I don't see why you would pass it up for partisian reasons. If I had the chance to go to a Hillary or Barack inuaguration, I wouldn't pass it up, that is for sure. To me it isn't "supporting" them. It is being a part of a historical event. I really don't mind John McCain and I've always kind of liked him. Listening to him talk is kind of like listening to a kindergarten teacher though so when he speaks I don't really get excited. Having said that, if it was convenient for me to go to an inauguration, I would go. But if I lived in Chicago I wouldn't go make a special trip to go to Obama's inauguration either.
