  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) How many losses-with-a-quality-start does this team have? I would guess that they're leading the majors in that stat. Another argument for why wins for a pitcher are by far the most useless and unimportant stat in baseball. With a couple of notable exceptions the starting pitching has been stellar.
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:07 AM) EXACTLY right. I mean, I'm not the model parent, but man, I don't want my kids ever playing this filth. Personally I'm a proud GTA player, I own almost the whole series. I'm an adult. I do what I want in my free time. HOWEVER, being a parent, there is no way in hell I let my 11-year old stepdaughter play it or any game like it. It's the same principle as R-rated movies. When she is like a junior in high school and has better judgment? Ok, maybe. But she can stick to her Wii and my other more kid-friendly games. (And I know when she's been playing my 360 when I'm not around, she isn't that good at covering up evidence.)
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:06 AM) If by "groundgame" you mean, "like a stalker ex-girlfriend", you are dead on right. It was like a freshman year girl friend, if you know what I mean At least she didn't change phone numbers and e-mail addresses to keep harassing you, among... other things... yeah so anyway, he wouldn't still be here if his campaign wasn't so organized. He probably would've been knocked out either before Iowa or during Super Tuesday.
  4. I feel pretty good about Vazquez starts. That isn't the cause for this losing streak though. Cmon offense.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2008 -> 08:24 AM) The recession that Bush inherited officially started in March of 2001, WAY before he could have actually had time to screw up anything economically enough to actually have caused it himself. The velocity of money dictates that most major economic actions take somewhere between six months and a year to really be felt in our economy. Therefore the recession that started in 3-01, came about because of economic actions during the Clinton administration. I've heard this before. I can't recall specifics because I didn't pay much attention to that kind of stuff back then but it sounds like you're talking about the dot-com bust, that had nothing really to do with Clinton or Clinton's policies so it's unfair to assign credit or blame. The record-setting period of expansion (that inevitably had to end somehow, eventually) didn't really have that much to do with Clinton either except for the fact that he didn't get in the way. Bush more or less had a healthy economy when he took office before he was handed the 9-11 turd sandwich, and even then it recovered in a relatively short time.
  6. I do like how Hawk made sure to mention at least 8 times that OC tagged the runner out with his glove on the guy's thigh (granted, he did) and that it was "the crew's fault." And that Contreras should've had a 3-1 win, blah blah blah. Hearing him complain about the umps is sooooooo tired.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 4, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) 2.) To make up (in part) for his unacceptable offensive production Nick has been playing outstanding defense in centerfeld, Podsednik -- on his best days -- plays a terrible left field. This has already been said but yeah I definitely would not call Swisher's D out there outstanding. Above average, better than expected maybe, but not outstanding. For an analogy to the Bears fans on here it's like John Tait playing out of position at LT... serviceable, but not special.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 3, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) I forgot what a jackass PFB is. He just stated that God himself couldnt help out the sox hitters, so there is no reason to get rid of Walker. And that Quentin is doing good because of Walker. This apologist crap is crazy. Who is PFB?
  9. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 3, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) I wish we had old time backyard football rules when it comes to Juan Uribe...He could be our "All Time Defense" so he never had to hit, that would be ideal. Technically, the rules say we can DH for Uribe and let the pitchers hit. I'm joking obviously, but only a little.
  10. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 3, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) Ah ok, so if that error isn't made, the Jays don't DIRECTLY score the 3 runs that provided the difference then? No one is saying that everything else didnt suck, the hitting overall, etc. But that one play by Mr. Gold Glove himself DIRECTLY led to 3 runs, the difference in the game. Pretty clear. The fact that it seems like such a reach for us to score 3 runs in that game (it was 2 runs, not 3) is the real problem. If Joe Crede doesn't make that error, after 9 innings there's a good chance the score is still 0-0 assuming Mark gets through the 2nd inning unscathed. So to blast Joe Crede for that is extreme.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ May 3, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) this is the only lineup that could get me interested at this point: 1. jerry owens - cf 2. pablo ozuna - 2nd 3. little conseco - lf 4. joe crede - 3rd 5. aj - c 6. jd - rf 7. nick swisher - 1b 8. oc - ss 9. brian anderson - dh LOL I root for Brian Anderson as much as the next guy that doesn't hate him for 2006, but having him as the DH is a hilarious suggestion.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Obama's campaign called the s*** out of my house. A lot. Almost every day for the two weeks leading up to the primacaucus. They call you even though you have no intentions of voting Democrat? That would annoy the hell out of me. Then again I hardly ever answer the phone if it's a number I don't recognize.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 3, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Actually you made my point too, because BA is happy to be in the majors. He busted his ass to be here even just as the 4th OF and hasn't complained a peep, if he's wanted to, he's kept his mouth shut. That says more than anything else could IMO. Obviously he wants to start (I believe he said that too) but he knows he has a lot to prove and he still wants to be here.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) Swisher's slugging is .330. Ryan Sweeney could do that. I'm still feeling he'd be much better hitting around 6th or somewhere where he can be free to take the swings he wants to.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) It's been happening a lot to him, I know I'm not the first one to observe that. But I agree, he's definitely a bright spot. Yeah I'm just saying days like today are going to happen so when it does, I'm not particularly concerned with it. He wasn't bad today, he just wasn't good. The only real way to get around it is just to let him pitch, not overthink it. Same with Floyd.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Danks really has to work on his stamina. He seems to hit the wall around the 80 pitch mark. Danks will be fine, he's still only like 22 years old. Looked to me like he was just getting worked by the Jays' lineup.
  17. Danks definitely getting tired now. How about a reliever to come in and score all of his interited runners.
  18. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Why when Danks is pitching good he gets pulled at 90 pitches but in a game where there is no chance of winning he has 90 pitches he gets to stay in the game. This is a rhetorical question. meh why burn up the bullpen if you don't have to?
  19. Watching Dye ABs reminds me a lot of Brian Anderson the first half of 2006. They usually look something like called strike, swinging strike, ball, swinging strike on a pitch low and off the plate.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 2, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) Well Livingston also tore 3 ligaments so i'd hesitate to compare the two That, and his entire knee literally came out and buckled sideways. I remember someone gave me the link to that and I was eating. I almost vomited.
  21. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 2, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) Quentin reached base. Well, that's to be expected I guess. It's funny that after Quentin, Anderson has been the best hitter the last few days.
  22. Serious question - was there anything positive about today? I mean, anything at all. I can think of Buehrle having a good game in spite of the E that ended up being 2 runs, and Cabrera was good both offensively and defensively. And then... umm... Anderson walked, I guess that was good.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) Fantastic job by Buehrle. Sigh... he should have a shutout right now.
  24. QUOTE (frankie5angels @ May 2, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) And Juan does what he does best, flies out!!! He's better at striking out actually.
  25. Come on Brian a 3-run homer sounds nice right now.
